- Dodie's school has a fund raiser to send to Korean orphans. She tells her teacher that her father will help divide the peanuts in a large sack into smaller bags for the sale. The whole family works all night to complete the task.
- Along with her friends Margaret and Priscilla, Dodie comes home with a sackful of peanuts which are to be bagged for a fundraiser to assist Korean orphans. As the family becomes more and more aware of the project, they learn additional items along the way that Dodie was less than forthright about: that the peanuts are raw meaning that they have to be roasted first, and that the fair where they are to be sold is tomorrow. Beyond Dodie unilaterally inviting Margaret and Priscilla to a sleepover to complete the project, it becomes an all hands on deck all night project to meet the deadline. Meanwhile, Ernie receives a telephone call from a classmate named Rita Purcelli who he doesn't know that well, she who wants to hang out with him. In meeting Rita, Steve, Barbara, Katie and Uncle Charley can all obviously see that beautiful Rita is only using Ernie to do her homework for her. The question then becomes if inexperienced Ernie can see the same thing before it's too late.—Huggo
