Remake of 'Clean With Passion For Now'
Snootz17 August 2023
As I got into this the story line seemed very familiar. Then one of the reviews here pinned it: If you've seen the Korean series "Clean With Passion for Now" you'll already know the basic theme of this series. There are some story differences, but the basic theme is identical.

I really like RomComs, so when I say that the romance overload in this would throw a diabetic into a super-sugar coma, I'm not exaggerating. There are three romances going on at the same time, in pretty much the same "laced with problems" manner.

If the viewer loves repeated kissing scenes, this series should suffice abundantly.

Basically this is a 12-episode series done in a long, drawn-out 24 episodes. Much of it is interesting, but there are several bits in which I found myself looking at the time to see how much longer the episode was going to go on. Some parts are more than a little drawn out.

I'm not the only reviewer to note this: the chemistry between the two lead characters just doesn't quite catch. The female lead does a great job, but the male is pretty two-dimensional. And the dialog just goes on... especially in the final episode. Just how long can a profession of love take and when are they going to move on? I enjoy romance series, but there's only so much saccharine script one can handle.

In addition there were "itchy" points throughout the series. First we have a psychiatrist who might be accused of malpractice and lose his license for messing with his client's head like he did. He did everything BUT help his client... all out of selfish motive. Then there's the question that (in the U. S. -- I dunno about China), the entire story might bring up questions of workplace sexual harassment. (I note others mention the same thing.) When conducting a workplace romance-- especially if you're the CEO-- one must tread VERY carefully. There are corporate guidebooks on such matters. This is really tricky legal ground.

So okay, it's an imperfect script. Admittedly most series have some issues. Just be prepared for this going in. This is a long series with a whole lot of filler and some incredibly bad dialog in places. In other places it's a lot of fun. I found the actors and characters interesting and the bad guys properly rotten. But a couple of times I actually fell asleep during some of the slower drag-along moments. That's never a good thing.

It's worth a watch, but if you've already seen the Korean version there's really no need to bother.

Seems like a typical cdrama but I couldn't stop binge watching!
Giselle17102 June 2021
There's so many this type of c dramas that when I first watching I thought I would just skip most of this drama just like I did in last few c dramas. But there's something different and excellent about this drama. I quite don't know what but I was hooked and watched till episode 22 cz last 2 episodes didn't air then.

I found it weird that at just episode 3 he realised he liked her but took so longggg to confess episode 12! But the accidental escalator kiss will be epic forever!

I loved fact that there's 3 couples in this cdrama. I haven't watched the korean version of this yet so I can't compare but I love this one though! Worth a binge watch!

Cute fluffy romance of adorable characters...
srijasingh-417462 August 2021
Not much under the dressing, although the dressing itself was enough. I really enjoyed the whole show, completely binge worthy. The chemistry between all three couples alone makes the show worth watching.

PS: Jasper Liu is the one entity 'made in China' that I would happily import.

A cute but flawed Chinese romantic comedy series
gee-1528 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A germophobic CEO of a cleaning company matches up against a somewhat grubby but charming young woman. Romance ensues with some romance to spare for the young woman's brother as well as the CEO's bodyguard.

"Use for My Talent" apparently comes from the same source as a Korean series "Clean with Passion for Now" and begs some comparison. The plotlines are basically the same but the Chinese series is much lighter in tone. While Jasper Liu is VERY easy on the eyes, I liked the male lead in the Korean series better (I think he's a better actor). In contrast, I found Shen Yue as the female lead cute and charismatic (the Korean series significantly dampens our sympathy for the heroine by having her get drunk and act in a ridiculously unfunny manner).

Actors and actresses aside, the series is rather choppy in its presentation. For example, we move from a scene where the CEO's bodyguard/assistant informs him that the board has eliminated the manual cleaning department abruptly to a scene of Shen Yue being the last one to clean out her desk and leave. This happens several times. In addition, there are a couple scenarios that are just eye-rollingly unrealistic (for example, when ShiShuang pretends she can't smell..why? ...uh, still not sure)

But if you want to watch some beautiful people in romantic settings acting in a cute loving manner towards each other, this is the series for you. Between the two series, this is the one I prefer. Just check your brain at the door.

P. S. My favorite line from the series: ShiShuang: Why did you kiss me? Gu: Because.... I don't hate you.

CUTE ENOUGH
pjkblue-3592620 March 2022
They are both likeable lead characters, as are the two other main "couples".

The psychotherapist was an annoying character when on screen and a total stalker with negative intentions and overall didn't really amount to much.

Shen Yue!
kieraamichell10 June 2021
I came to find this on Netflix and watched it as I recognized Shen Yue. Shen Yue is an amazing actress out of mainland China, and this drama made me love her talent event more. I've watched a few of her other dramas. She can carry a scene so well. I would describe her as emotional and relatable - she MAKES the drama. Don't forget that Chinese criteria for dramas are different from everywhere else so they follow strict guidelines. Also, I don't know what nonsense there is about her acting the same roles. Ive watched people act the same roles all the time. Shen Yue has had diverse characters. She is an actress not. Pop star. She knows how to deliver a scene at such a young age still... I can't wait to see more of her work. I love that she is a unique beauty in China. Alot of Idols try to have that classic look and end up all looking the same. Yue is a natural beauty with angular features, an elegant jawline, big beautiful shining eyes and a very real true to herself personality. Jasper Liu and Shen Yue have a bomb shell chemistry here. Watch the drama! They story line and script carried very well. Great directing.

Mostly light, romantic fluff, but worth watching
talonjensen3 July 2022
This is mostly about three romances. Of the three I found the romance between the influencer-bodyguard/assistant to be the most interesting. But, the main romance isn't bad. The CEO of a cleaning company falls in love with a low-level employee of the company. I actually liked the fact that she is not a classic beauty, but is full of personality.

The CEO is a germophobe (as many translated shows do, they use a much less common, but slightly more accurate synonym - mysophobe). He actually is so attracted to her that he can overcome most of his symptoms around her.

The main thing I didn't like about the show is when they show flashbacks of the grandfather's treatment of the CEO when he was young. This has directly led to his germophobia. Everyone refers to the grandfather's treatment of the young CEO as "strict". I take great issue with that. The grandfather's treatment of his grandson was verbal abuse! There is no other way to characterize it.

At pushing 70, I am not some young woke snowflake. It would have been abuse 60 years ago and it is still abuse today.

Near the end of the show the grandfather suddenly becomes a nice person to all around him. A not very believable, sudden transition. The therapist starts off misusing his position, but also, more subtly, transitions into a better person.

Other than the issues with the grandfather, I found the show fine, with more modern production values than most Asian shows. And, a tiny disappointment that the bad guy never gets his comeuppance.

Funny romantic show that transcends cultures
ajwarner2 June 2021
Could not stop watching until the end. Stereotypical romantic comedy (yes) with all the typical misunderstandings (yes), but still a wonderful tv show to make you smile and want to love someone special in your life!

Saved by Jasper Liu
geewhiz468 June 2022
This is a somewhat unlikely love story between a mysophobe and a messy young woman. The set piece of the "accidental" kiss on the elevator is so fake it's embarrassing. The lead actress has the same surprised expression on her face with every encounter - she is the same in every series I have seen her in - she is a poor actress with no acting range.

She also has an annoying habit of wiggling her head about and the strangest shambling run that looks so clumsy. The camera keeps focussing on her mouth - and it really shouldn't because it is not an attractive shape.

With regard to the Asian way of life I find it very odd that young people think it their duty to support male relatives who are perfectly capable of working. I had no sympathy for her alcoholic father who should have taken responsibility for the family he made rather than sponging off them.

Jasper Liu does his best - and is an attractive male lead - but one gets the feeling that this female lead always gets similar parts for the simple reason that she is short of stature and makes her male co-stars look big and heroic. He deserved better.

There follows the usual conflict regarding parents prejudices and historical events between them.

I am curious to know why this series showed the very last scene after every episode. Why bother to watch it after the first episode if we already know the ending?

Coming of age for female lead
debbiecheryllayne13 April 2023
This stands out in my memory because you can distinctly feel the lead actors pulling and drawing from each other. Where they normally act well in whatsoever they do, it felt like the female lead was genuinely supported by the male lead not to be just good but great. She aced this one. Watching this maturing unfold on the screen kept me riveted.

So my ten is for execution, for all who encouraged these actors to push beyond the limits of script and norms of TV and to just nail it. The chemistry for me was that of two craftsmen celebrating and enjoying working with each other.

I watched this months before Korean version and I still remember the name and the pleasure from watching. And I can say honestly this is one of the few times the Chinese beat the Koreans hands down. Credit to male lead for pushing female lead to blossom and bloom before our eyes. To see an actor mature and gain confidence is a phenomenal experience.

Plain and boring
hanalisss13 June 2021
I had higher expectations for this drama. I loved the main lead on Meteor Garden and On a love so beautiful, but this drama seemed so plain and fake. I didn't feel any chemistry between the leads ( or the rest of the couples for that matter). Anyhow, watch ot if you want something silly and lighthearted to watch when you can skip whole parts of the show without miss anything important.

MUST WATCH !! Won't regret it all
sanayasharma-285805 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ok , this drama might seem like a typical c drama with the boss and employee falling in love and live traingle and things but this drama is so sweet and cute that you can't stop watching. The leads have such a strong and soft chemistry. I just fell in love them. For me a successful drama is which makes you love all the angles in the a drama and this show just did that. Not only the lead couple but even the second and the third couples ate adorable. Jasper liu and shenyue shined with their acting specially in emotional scenes. I loved the fact when they had a breakup, they handled it so maturely not whining all the time. And the special thing about this drama was it's CINEMATOGRAPHY!!. It's a rare thing in c dramas and you will love the way that each scene is taken here. Do watch it in netflix and enjoy!!

Jasper!
chilligrrl1 June 2021
Jasper is here with his toothpaste commercial smile, in a flowery, pastel-filled series. Having watched Clean With a Passion for Now (which this is based on), it's slightly different and a bit more cheesy but still delightful all the same. Personally I don't think too much of the female lead but apparently she's very popular and she's alright, so I'll just say she acted exactly the same character she always does in all the dramas I've seen her in; but Jasper and the doctor guy and her brother all came from the handsome shirtless factory and that makes it all okay :) There was even a big fishtank scene which featured a Beluga, so they stuck to the K-Drama script a bit.

It's not quite CWAP4N but it's worth a watch. There's still two episodes to go but I liked it.

Somewhat near to average
bodhisatwapatel4 August 2021
First of all, the cute scenes are not so cute cause it was looking like all made up,the acting was off, actually even if you skip the point -acting, people don't even talk like that,it was like they are doing some robotic acts. The chemistry between the other two pairs are better and amazing than the lead one. Jasper was really good as always but it somewhat lacked something here. Overall I personally didn't like the drama. I find it somewhat overrated.

Lu xian is such a show ruiner
laurarkopylov16 July 2021
First if all this poor bum is a therapist for a wealthy man... Not believable at all . Also his face makes me want to fly to china and smash it. He's such a terrible add.

The In the show. What a waste if space. The kids make sure he survived and yet won't make healthy decisions for themselves because of him? Dumb.

Also why do all Asian dramas only use 3 songs for the entire show.... It's Annoying .

Other than that I enjoyed it.

Harassment but some actors were okay
neko-8626328 January 2023
This drama is like a textbook example of sexual harassment from the main "romance" and the brother/friend "romance." I ended up dropping the show in the middle of episode 9. There's not much there to keep coming back for, and I can't excuse the constant forced touching and lack of consent. Even if two people do secretly like each other, suddenly kissing them out of nowhere and refusing to respect personal boundaries even after they've pulled away multiple times is a huge red flag. Both men and women are constantly stalking their love interest.

Some of the actors are okay, but it's still a very plain show even if you can somehow overlook the sexual harassment. Brother is supposedly an inventor (implied in episode 1) and "fixes" a light bulb, which is apparently enough for a girl to fall in love with him.

I would never recommend this show to anyone and would not want to watch anything else by the same director.

Bland, blah, boo
meanjean-882937 December 2023
No chemistry, no cohesion. Forced scenes that weren't natural at all. Ridiculous hair for lead actress. Even the evil grandfather was methodical and plodding. I tried this after watching Clean with passion for now, Korean romcom and was very disappointed. A talented high school student could have filmed this. Absolutely no imagination in making. Even the scenery scenes were bland with no actual places recognizable. Romantic scenes were drawn out to impossible lengths. Is it possible that going to lengths to appear westernized has created a monster in the industry now? If they were going to copy a Korean hit, they should have followed it more closely. 😤

needed more everything
aeixstray13 March 2023
All the actors were great and its very pretty to watch and light hearted. But it was just too bland. Instead of adding plot points which felt like they were just there to fill time, i wish we got to learn more about the characters and allow them to have more depth. Shuangjiao is an okay character but not a great one. Gu renqi lacked any appeal whatsoever as a male lead and just seemed to be written so blandly. The one thing i did like about him was how he has such great insight (like when he helps shuangjiao with work and gives his opinion) and is so good at doing his job, i wish we got to see more of his charm. The relationships between the bodyguard/qianqian and junjie/zhuyan just seemed as if they were there for the heck of it...? Like the stereotypes that they were meant to portray were the entire depth of their characters. Further, the only thing that motivated me to keep watching was the fact that im trying to improve my chinese listening skill lmao, i had no interest in the plot.
