This episode is loosely based on the real life story of missing child Dennis Martin and the conspiracies that surround the case.
Dennis Martin (the case this episode is loosely based on) was a six year old Knoxville Tennessee child who disappeared Fathers Day weekend 1969 while camping in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with members of his family. Martin was last seen about 4:30 on the afternoon of June 14. He left the trail to hide behind a tree to scare other members of the party and was never seen again. Over 1400 searchers looked for Martin, including the National Guard, Boy Scouts and US Special Forces for the two weeks following his disappearance but he was never found. The search was officially called off in September of that year. A ginseng hunter later revealed he had found the skeletal remains of a small child, but fearing prosecution for poaching in the national park, kept it secret until 1985. Another search was mounted but too much time had passed for his story to be corroborated. To this day it is the largest search effort in the park's history and changed the park's policies on how it deals with missing person searches.
Cody Fern speaks in his natural Australian accent for this role.
With this episode, Manny Coto returned to directing after twenty years.
