Most of the film is shot in existing light. Sometimes enhanced by a little battery lamp. The exceptions are the scenes in The Painter's room and the dream sequence in a spa.
Vardøen is also a producer/executive producer on all his films.
This is a low-budget film made without any public funding (which is common in Norway).
Actor Jonathan Chedeville's first feature "Victoria" was also a film based on a novel by Knut Hamsun.
The production hired a gaffer for two scenes at the spa of The Thief Hotel in Oslo. These scenes were lit by Gaffer Solveig Karoline Hagelund, but had to be cut out due to change in the cast. Cinematographer Ole Andreas Grøntvedt FNF re-shot these scenes with approximately the same setup as Hagelund had done weeks earlier.
