The story was originally written in 2001.
The look of the Daddy character has similarities to illustrator Raz Ortiz's father.
Javier edited a demo version of the film while recovering from surgery for a deviated septum. This version went onto be 95% of the final version.
To produce the moving images for the film, Javier animated Raz's Photoshop layers in Final Cut Pro. This was an unexpected bonus for Javier since he hadn't realized how many of the elements were on separate layers. Javier learned this animating technique while editing the title sequence for The Scare: The Mansion of Terror Documentary (2007).
The music was originally written as a placeholder to establish an editing pace. It was going to be replaced with original music by Ryan Miner. At the time of production, Ryan was in the middle of moving and would not be able to write and record for several weeks (possibly months). It was then decided that the "placeholder" music would remain in the film. Javier states that he also based this decision on peoples' positive comments towards the "placeholder" music and therefore felt no need to wait for Ryan. He has commented, however, that he admires Ryan's music and looks forward to collaborating with him on a future project.
