- A Wild West show comes to Ford Florey and a serial killer starts to eliminate villagers in a "wild west" fashion related to a parcel of disputed swamp land.
- At a Wild West show in Ford Florey, Faye Lennox is murdered. She was the estate manager and lover of unpopular farmer Jack Fincher, who is engaged in a long-standing dispute with neighbour Silas Burbage over a piece of waste-land. Soon afterwards Fincher is lassoed and dragged to his death. There is no shortage of suspects - the Burbage family, long-suffering wife Susan who is seemingly very close to stepson Leo, Dan Malko, who wants the waste-land as a permanent travellers' site and Mary Morgan, whose dog Fincher shot. Jude Langham, a local craftsman who blames Fincher for his father's death, claims to have the document which will settle ownership and he is attacked by an intruder out to steal it. He had made phone calls to the three parties interested in the land just before his attack. But one is also murdered and another person will die before Barnaby works out who is responsible for blood on the saddle.—don @ minifie-1
- Tom and Joyce Barnaby attends the village fête in Ford Florey and the DCI soon has two murders to solve. The fête has an American Wild West theme but the first victim is Faye Lennox who was dressed as a witch and working at the dunk tank. She was shot however and nothing out of the ordinary was heard given the show that was going on at the same time. Lennox was having an affair with local landowner Jack Fincher, something that was generally known in the village and also by his wife, Susan, who was sitting with Tom and Joyce at the time of the shooting. When Jack Fincher is later found dead having been roped and dragged through the fields. Fincher was known to have been in a dispute with his neighbor, Silas Burbage, over the ownership of a piece of land. The ownership issue is coming to a head as the leader of a group of travelers, Dan Malko, is keen to purchase the property for his group. Another death and near-deadly attack will occur before Barnaby sorts it all out.—garykmcd
- While the Barnabys attend the fun fair in the Westers style fitting the local obsession, an American Wild West evocation society, someone fatally shoots with a Western gun Faye Lennox, estate manager and lover of unpopular farmer Jack Fincher, while she took over from another sitting as masked witch target in the dunk tank. Jack's wife Susan knew but sat next to the Barnabys, he's later dragged to dead by lasso by a masked cowboy, resembling Jack's son Leo. He and neighbor Silas Burbage were the 'candidates' to sell a long-disputed swamp, of value in case of development, to gypsy accountant and nomad community proctor Dan Malko. Dody solicitor was milking them searching for a legally binding ownership proof, and is shot shortly after. Barnaby and Ben investigate all Western society members until forced to improvise a shootout finale.—KGF Vissers
