Moving from a tragi-docudrama I Used to Live Here (2014) to what appears to be a very raw prison system film in Michael Inside (2017), for his fourth feature film Irish filmmaker Frank Berry turns to another rough portrait in an immigration drama with trouble ahead or… not far behind. Suicide, penal system, and now asylum seekers, Berry called his current sobering project “human connection in an inhumane system.” Filming on Aisha took place in Ireland back in April with future A-lister stars in Letitia Wright and Josh O’Connor set as the pair against all odds. The production has partners in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States.…...

Amrita Puri's debut Bollywood role in the 2010 release Aisha got her noticed, and although she has been applauded for her performances in films like Kai Po Che! and Judgementall Hai Kya since then, she has largely remains underrated.
Amrita has once again garnered positive reviews and audience applause for her role in the new web series, Jeet Ki Zid. Taking a pragmatic line, the actress says it is tough to find a balance between quality and quantity in the Hindi film industry.
"I think it is tough to maintain visibility with quality work. Quantity wise, it is possible. If we look at the kind of work that is out there, even on Ott platforms, most of the stories are male-centric, where the part of a female character is not quite unique and well written. So to find a space where you get to play a character that satisfies an actor like me is limited.

Filmmaker Autumn de Wilde is serving up a fresh new take on the Jane Austen novel with the film Emma., which opens in theaters this weekend. Complete with a stylized punctuated period in the title, the new version is a Focus Features co-production with Working Title and Blueprint Productions and joins the ranks of other Hollywood iterations of the classic story. This includes the 1996 iteration starring Gwyneth Paltrow, a modern Indian version titled Aisha in 2010 and, of course, Amy Heckerling’s way existential adaptation Clueless starring Alicia Silverstone. There were also countless TV versions including the 1996 ITV film, starring Kate Beckinsale in the titular role as well as the 2009 four-part BBC miniseries starring Romola Garai. That being said, it seems like the world can’t get enough of this Austen’s comedy of “love and all its surprises”, but based on the trailer alone, de Wilde’s cracks open a...

Autumn de Wilde’s adaptation ramps up the comedy, but Anya Taylor-Joy remains wonderfully edgy as Jane Austen’s meddling heroine
With its heady mix of social satire, romantic intrigue and endlessly reinterpretable gender politics, Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma has long proved catnip for film-makers. The 2009 TV miniseries starring Romola Garai followed a string of small-screen productions, dating back to such offerings as a 1948 BBC “telefilm” with Judy Campbell. Recent big-screen adaptations have ranged from Douglas McGrath’s 1996 hit featuring Gwyneth Paltrow (for which composer Rachel Portman won an Oscar) to the 2010 Hindi-language romcom Aisha with Sonam Kapoor. For many, however, Amy Heckerling’s 1995 “queen bee” treat Clueless remains a favourite, astutely transposing the British riffs of Austen’s source to the modern milieu of an American high school.
This latest colourful incarnation boasts the remarkable Anya Taylor-Joy as Austen’s “handsome, clever and rich” heroine Emma Woodhouse, spoilt...

If you’re looking to cast a period piece, Anya Taylor-Joy has increasingly become the one to call. She broke out of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival with Robert Eggers’ searing horror folktale “The Witch” as the sexually repressed elder sister in an excommunicated New England family. She starred in the PBS miniseries “The Miniaturist” as a 17th-century New Amsterdam woman bewitched by dollhouses. And she starred in the recent season of the gangster period epic “Peaky Blinders.”
Taylor-Joy returns in 2020 as Jane Austen heroine Emma Woodhouse in music-video director turned first-time filmmaker Autumn de Wilde’s “Emma,” which Focus Features will release on February 21. Austen’s beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending is reimagined in this new film adaptation, with a script from Eleanor Catton. Watch the first teaser trailer below.

From the time she entered Bollywood in 2007 with "Saawariya", Sonam Kapoor Ahuja mostly courted the limelight as a fashionista and a highly-opinionated person rather than with her acting skills -- till "Neerja" in 2016 changed that opinion for many. While the actress is happy with her career graph, she now wishes to be part of horror and action films.
"I haven't done any action and horror films, so these are the two genres I would love to explore. It would be so different and exciting for me because I haven't done anything on the action. So, one of these two genres would be interesting to try out," Sonam, who looks forward to working with filmmakers Vishal Bhardwaj and Shoojit Sircar, told a publication.

After her father Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor too decided to dip her hands into production. While many of her contemporaries like Anushka Sharma have made this move, for Sonam Kapoor, it was her sister Rhea who convinced her to take this step.
Sonam Kapoor is now more than happy with this decision and her first production will be Battle For Bittora. The actress clearly stated that she will be involved in every aspect of production, from finances to research to costumes to casting. Though the actress did make decisions during Aisha, which was produced by her sister, she was a silent producer of sorts but this time around, the actress revealed that her name will be a part of the credit titles. It’s been long (four years to be precise) since we saw Ira Dubey on the big screen (Remember Aisha?). But fret not as the very talented actress is back on the silver screen with Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend.
Says Ira about her long hiatus, “My main priority as an actor is to do some different sort of variety in the kind of work that I do. I don’t want to get typecast. It is very easy to get typecast in Bollywood. After Aisha, I got so many offers – kind of glamorous, best friends, loud characters. But they weren’t very exciting for me. I also was doing plenty of theatre that time as I was not getting anything exciting.”
Speaking about what made her say yes to the film, Ira says, “The modern Indian girl or woman wants more than to be a housewife and has a voice to...

From Dubai to Mumbai, it has been quite some journey for young Japinder Kaur who is making her foray into the world of Bollywood. An erstwhile assistant to Prakash Jha (with whom she worked on Aarakshan) and boasting of a blooming post production studio in Dubai (which she runs with her brother Tarnpreet Singh – who is also the producer of her debut feature film), Japinder is stepping into Bollywood with Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend. We get into a quick conversation with her.
A love story with a thrill element to it – Guess Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend is one cocktail of a film?
While it is my first film, I pretty much feel that I am an audience first. I don’t have any checklist or criteria that I am following at all. As an audience when I watch a film, I enjoy a cocktail. Same is the case with my friends and family.

We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

My team in Delhi is very efficient,” says the confident stylist who was recently spotted hunting for apartments in the city. Ask her anything about her Bollywood assignments and the fashionista says, “Sonam and her family are like any other friends. They’re happy for me. So far I haven’t needed their support.
