Writer-director William Sterling said "Fortunately the stage production was almost ideal for TV. I tried to place the cameras in such a way that there was very little adjustment of movement and although the studio was smaller than the stage acting area, the production transposed well."
The production was rehearsed and taped in twelve hours within the one working day at the studios of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Collinswood, Adelaide, South Australia.
The programme was produced to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the birth of playwright William Shakespeare.
Basically the entire cast reprized their stage roles merely performing the production in a television studio rather than treading the boards.
There are just a handful of Australian theatrical feature films which are a filmed adaptation of a play by William Shakespeare. These movies are: Macbeth (2006), Measure for Measure (2019), Twelfth Night (1986) and Romeo + Juliet (1996). There are a few more Aussie versions made for television which include: Hamlet (1959), Hamlet (1974), Othello (1964), The Tempest (1963), Antony and Cleopatra (1959), The First 400 Years (1964), 'King Lear' aka 'King Lear for Schools' (1967), Romeo and Juliet (1967), The Merchant of Venice (1961), The Taming of the Shrew (1962), The Taming of the Shrew (1973) and The Life and Death of King Richard II (1960).
