There were really enjoyable moments in this episode: seeing the supernova act exactly as we expected them to, Zoro ultimately joining in on Luffy's rage, Kidd saying "who cares", Killer just writing off all the action... all were great moments that really allude to the greater nature of these characters. This week there were no manga spoilers. It all worked pretty well for a bottle episode that has to kill a few weeks between the episodes and the chapters. I enjoyed it.
But I also see the complaints a lot of people have with the pacing. A few episodes ago we had one of the best animated episodes of anime all out, bar none. It moved the plot forward an inch, but was still just enjoyable all the way through. This episode, we get very little of that movie quality and the plot had moved forward a centimeter. Frustrating is an understatement. But pair that with what I said above and for people who are anime only, you still have an overall enjoyable episode.
For those who thought 983 was a sign of things to come I have two points: did you think that animation would last the entire raid? Did you think that the pacing would keep up when we're less than a year behind the manga? Obviously the answer to both is no.
So, did I want more? Yes. Am I still satisfied? Absolutely. We don't want the anime to push the manga (obviously, especially with the negative remarks the last episode received,) but we also don't want random filler like Bleach that ruins the continuity. It's an enjoyable episode in the midst of a 35 chapter disparity, I would rather they slow down the pace than throw us an entire filler arc that sucks and leaves us lost for a few months, and just keep the anime far enough behind where they don't have to do that. That's just me.
Overall, it was a solid (by any legitimate standard) episode, and I don't expect any of the next few episodes to really push the story much, which I am 1000% okay with so long as we avoid random, unnecessary filler.
7/10.
