This documentary is an excellent, honest account of the life of Adolph Vandertie - one man who whittled and carved his name into modern day Americana with his talent, while fighting the struggles of a man with many adversities throughout his entire life. It responsibly shows the many struggles and consequences of choice in everyday poverty during the depression, while depicting with extreme clarity, a candid insight into Adolf's blatantly honest character. His wooden "masterpieces" are now on display at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center - all byproducts of the cigar boxes and crates that he masterfully crafted into beautiful works of art. The accompanying music is outstanding, the editing flawless, and the directing is responsible and consistently appropriate. This is without a doubt, a work of love and the commitment to actuality is impeccable.
