Judy Greer told The Hollywood Reporter that her going fully topless in the first episode wasn't in the script. Producers asked her if she wanted to wear pasties for the scene where she's struggling to pull off her shirt in front of Keegan-Michael Key, but she refused because trying to shoot around them was a "a pain in the ass." So she told them, "Let's just do the scene and then you guys can just deal with my boobs in the editing room." When the scene was edited together, they were like, "Well, we have two versions, and there is a version where we can see your breasts, and it's very funny. We're never putting this in the show if you don't want to, but why don't you come and see what you think?" When she saw it, she agreed it was funny. Being naked on camera never bothered her, so she told them to keep it in.
In January 2023, Hulu cancelled the series after one season. Creator Steve Levitan, who served as both executive producer and showrunner, said he hoped to shop the show around to other networks.
The living room portion of the set is the same as the Baxter house in Last Man Standing. Krista Marie Yu co-starred in the show as an exchange student living with the Baxters. In this show, she is watching a show being filmed on the same set she previously filmed a show. (Note: the kitchen is not the same and the outside of the home is different. Also, the outside of the house shown has blue siding where the entryway for this show clearly shows brick when they walk in the door).
