'The show must go on'
willowcreekent16 October 2009
A touching and endearing look at 20 seasoned actors who embark on this incredible journey of performing in their favorite play 'On the Waterfront' and how their passion and belief in their craft, created a performance they will never forget. This film really enforces the old adage 'that the show must go on'. The producers wanted to have the performance staged outside in Hoboken, New Jersey where the original film was shot and on the night of the last performance weather wrecked havoc and almost spoiled the show for a very special guest. This iconic guest got to see this masterpiece performed for the very last time, he passed away one week later. This film really shows how incredibly intense theater productions can be and when confronted with incredible situations, what directors, producers and actors will do to pursue their beloved passion.

A Beautiful and Moving Tribute

There are not enough words to describe how beautiful and moving this tribute was to such a phenomenal man.

From performing outside "On the Waterfront" one night and then having to bring the production indoors was nothing short of a miracle. Through the tenacity and determination of all involved, the show did go on and Budd Schulberg was able to see his story come to life one more time.

The saying "the show must go on" is a true testament to all involved who "weathered" the storm and came out in a ray of sunshine!

After seeing this documentary, I have a new found respect and admiration for the directors, producers and actors who were involved in this very emotional and moving piece.

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

Carpe Diem!

"The show must go on" – a mantra that grabs the theatre industry by its throat and which the members of its tribe recite with unfailing dignity on a recurring basis. "Waiting for…Budd" is a rare and touching documentary that grants its viewers a behind the scenes look at the challenges, obstacles and magic that Hudson Film Group and the New Artists Theatre Company face in the run up to the night of their final outdoor performance of "On the Waterfront", and the choices they make in honor of one of their most illustrious patrons - Budd Schulberg. Serendipitous, heartwarming, funny and an absolute must see! "Waiting for…Budd" is a film that will renew your love of theatre and its artists whilst reminding us all of how important it is to seize the day.

A touching documentary....
joepolitotj2 November 2009
I didn't know what to expect when I saw the screening for Waiting For Budd, but what I witnessed in that theater was a very touching documentary that was moving & informative.

Viewing behind the scenes shows everyone what us, as actors go through when portraying characters either on screen or stage. You had no choice but to feel for what the producer, director and actors had to go through in order to overcome adversity. What was also very moving was hearing about the screenwriter, Bud Schulberg, and learning a little bit what the brilliant writer was all about and what he stood for. Then seeing barely able to walk in the theater, then witnessing his play 'On The Waterfront' with his family there beside him for the last time before he died, brought chills to every inch of me from there on throughout the film. Very well done!
