This retrospective documentary covers a lot of enjoyable and interesting ground on the making of the micro-budget horror splatter schlock classic "The Bloody Ape." Director/co-writer Keith J. Crocker explains that the film is primarily about miscommunication and reveals that he based a good deal of the story on unpleasant real-life experiences. Actor/co-writer George Reis recalls that the shooting of the movie was a happy experience and notes that the plot is a very loose adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe short story "Murders in the Rue Morgue." Star Paul Richichi also remembers acting in the picture as a fun experience and states that the film shows a certain harsh reality. Noted trash film historian Joe Wawrzyniak points out various other low-budget movies that influenced "The Bloody Ape" and discusses how art is supposed to reflect both the positive and negative aspects of society and the human race. Best of all, there's even a funny mock interview with the ape who claims he was fed or paid for his participation in the picture! Recommended viewing for fans of the film.
