Melvins will reinterpret their own catalog and showcase some new covers on the grunge giant’s massive new Five Legged Dog, a 36-track LP that doubles as the group’s first-ever acoustic album.
“I knew I wanted to do something ridiculously big. Thirty-six songs reimagined by us acoustically is certainly ridiculous but it works! The magic of the songs is still there regardless of it being acoustic,” Buzz Osbourne said in a statement of the pandemic-recorded album.
“Since we weren’t touring we had the time to do something of this size.

I love heist movies, and over the past few years there have been some great indie-comedy heist movies: films like Flypaper, How to Rob a Bank, The Maiden Heist and Blue Iguana. What do they have in common? Well they all successfully balance quirky, offbeat comedy with traditional “heist-film” storytelling. They also all feature a cool and charismatic cast. None of which applies to The Devil’s Heist… well this is partly a comedy; insomuch as its absolutely hilarious anyone would pay to distribute this pile of dross!
The film tells the story of Ted, an ex-con who – along with his old partner and his girlfriend – rob a bank. But not just any bank.

If there’s one genre I love as much as horror it’s heist movies, in particular the kind of quirky, independent, often direct to DVD movies. Over the past few years there have been some great indie-comedy heist movies: films like Flypaper, How to Rob a Bank and The Maiden Heist – all of which I’d easily consider my favourites of the genre (Flypaper would even make my all-time favourite films list too).
And what do they have in common?
Well they all successfully balance quirky, offbeat comedy with traditional “heist-film” storytelling. They also all feature a cool and charismatic cast. And surprisingly Lying and Stealing follows suit, whilst also feeling very much like the more “glamorous” more-romantic crime caper films of the 60s.

Producer Mark Damon, whose credits include “2 Guns” and “Lone Survivor,” has bought the film and television rights for Israeli war story “Angels in The Sky” in a pre-Cannes Film Festival deal.
Damon, the co-head of Dcr Finance Fund and Foresight Unlimited, will executive produce with Dcr Finance Fund as primary financial backer. Damon will partner with former Paramount Pictures executives Mike Flint and Jerry Meadors along with Mark Lansky, an investment specialist who is the nephew of Meyer Lansky. Flint is the producer.
Foresight and Dcr will launch sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, which opens May 14. Peter Dekom is the project’s legal consultant.
The 2017 book, written by Bob Gandt, dramatizes the 1948 conflict in the Middle East immediately after the state of Israel was formed, which triggered a nine-month war waged by five Arab nations. About 150 overseas pilots and their crews, dubbed the Machal, made up most...

Opening a crime film, an indie crime film for that matter, in a diner only screams to remind audiences of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, setting a high bar for the film to come. Which, frankly, means your film better live up to that expectation… Thankfully Blue Iguana does.

With both The Hatton Garden Job in UK cinemas now, and We Still Steal the Old Way available on DVD from today, I thought i’d take a look at my favourite Top Five Heist/Crime Caper Movies… In order (for a change) they are:
5) In Security
In Security tells the story of best friends Kevin and Bruce, who are co-owners of a failing home security company in a town with no crime. As a last ditch effort to drum up some business, they start robbing the neighbors to instill fear and create a need for their services but bullets fly when they unwittingly rob the wrong guy – a suburban drug lord with a penchant for kitchen gadgets.
It’s fair to say I love a good goofball crime caper, but In Security however has much more than being just a “crime caper” going for it. For one it stars one of my favourite actors,...

NBC has found their John Constantine for their television adaptation of the DC comic, and it's Matt Ryan. No, not "Matty Ice," the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. This Matt Ryan is a Welsh actor, probably best known for playing Mick Rawson in television's Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and for voicing Edward Kenway in the video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The actor has also appeared in several movies, such as Layer Cake, Flypaper, and...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is close to casting Matt Ryan as the title character in "Constantine," a Warner Bros. Television drama based on DC Comics' John Constantine. Ryan, who is originally from Wales, has previously appeared in such films as "Layer Cake," "Armistice" and "Flypaper," as well as the TV shows "The Tudors," "Criminal Minds" and its spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior." He also voiced the lead character Edward Kenway in the video game "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag." According to THR, Daniel Cerone ("Dexter") will pen...

Welsh actor Matt Ryan ("Criminal Minds") is nearing a deal to star in the lead role in NBC's "Constantine," a series adaptation of the DC Comics title "Hellblazer".
Ryan would play the blond, working-class British occult detective John Constantine, a man who "struggles with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past and is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness."
In the series Liv, the daughter of a late friend, is targeted by demons. Constantine steps in to save her and the two form an alliance.
Daniel Cerone ("Dexter") will pen the script, David Goyer ("Da Vinci's Demons") is attached to executive produce and Neill Marshall ("Game of Thrones") will direct the pilot.

Simon talks to the director of Mr Peabody & Sherman about child actors, straight to video sequels, and animation vs live action
Since he co-directed The Lion King, Rob Minkoff hasn't made a full-on animated film since. He mixed animation with live action in a pair of Stuart Little movies (setting off a bit of a trend there), and went on to tackle The Haunted Mansion, The Forbidden Kingdom, and Flypaper amongst others.
Mr Peabody & Sherman brings him back to animation though, and he spared us some time to chat about. What's more, he talked too about the time he was offered the director's chair on Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2. Here's how our chat went...
If I've got this right, then this one's been on your plate for a decade, if not more than that. At one stage it was said to have a live action element to it.

The EW article alleges that Guillermo del Toro won’t shoot his stop-motion Pinocchio for another year, but Lord knows an early state won’t prevent the poring over of concept art. One can look at and read what’s posted right above, which is both Geppetto’s construction of Pinocchio and the latter’s plunge with “one of puppet-theater owner Mangiafoco’s monkeys.” It doesn’t offer a world of impressions, but yours truly takes it as an initial sign of what’s to come; a good sign it is.
del Toro will co-direct Pinocchio with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox), both of whom may be working with Daniel Radcliffe, Christopher Walken, and Tom Waits, should everyone be getting their way. If we, the collective audience, get our own way, this combination of auteur and material is bound to yield some stunning results. A well-worn tale though it may be,...

The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday, but even outside of films In Competition, as part of the Un Certain Regard section or in the Cannes Directors' Fortnight and Critics' Week sidebars, the field will also be extremely crowded in Cannes Market, where studios and producers come to hawk their wares to buyers. Double Dutch Media is one such company and they have a diverse slate of nine films unspooling in the marketplace this year. One of the more intriguing offerings is "Warhouse," a brutal psychological (and supernatural) thriller about one man's fight to preserve his humanity and sanity over years of terrible imprisonment.
The film is led by Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson on CW's "The Vampire Diaries," "Immortals") along with Matt Ryan ("Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," "Flypaper") and William Troughton and is directed by newcomer Luke Massey. Here's the official synopsis and below, an exclusive clip from the...

Chicago – After the not-so-surprising success of the heavily marketed farce “The Hangover,” Jon Lucas and Scott Moore have quickly become Hollywood’s most overrated screenwriters. They specialize in injecting high concepts with frat-boy vulgarity, mean spirited gags and entirely superficial warmth. If Zach Galifianakis hadn’t bolstered “Hangover” with his deadpan genius, the film almost surely would’ve flopped.
Yet while Lucas and Moore borrowed familiar formulas for underwhelming duds like “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” and “The Change-Up,” their “Hangover” admittedly benefited from a clever structure. It allowed moviegoers to join the characters in piecing together the wacky events that occurred during an inebriated night that unfolded offscreen. The writing duo’s very next project was the barely released indie “Flypaper,” which is to “Hangover” what “I Know What You Did Last Summer” was to “Scream.”

There’s a decidedly oriental tinge to this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival. Jiang Wen’s extremely successful rice-noodle Chinese comedy western Let The Bullets Fly (which had its premiere at the Brisbane International Film Festival – read my review Here) has been chosen as the opening night film and there’s a ‘Cool Japan’ line-up which features the Australian premieres of Makoto Shinkai‘s (Voice of a Distant Star) exquisitely rendered anime Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below - a nostalgic and mystical adventure concerning family loss which firmly places the young director in a league with the laudable likes of manga masters Katsuhiro Ohtomo, Mamoru Oshii and Hayao Miyazaki. On the non-animated front we have the welcome return screenings of Anh Hung Tran‘s Sydney Film festival favourite Norweigan Wood and Takashi Miike‘s kinetic Seven Samurai throwback 13 Assassins. Two further manic manga adaptations, Shinsuke Sato...

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Happy Feet Two - Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Pink
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 - Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner
Movie of the Week
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1
The Stars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner
The Plot: The Quileute and the Volturi close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses different threats to the wolf pack and vampire coven.
The Buzz: The only drawback to having to choose a movie of the week becomes apparent on weeks such as this one, wherein I have absolutely zero interest in any of the new releases. First of all, I hated what I saw of the first Happy Feet, and the trailer for Happy Feet Two advertises a film which looks to be about as bearable as swallowing a glass full of shards of glass. And so, the...

He gets the opportunity to impress her when the bank is hit by two different gangs of bank robbers at the same time, a high-tech trio planning to break into the vault and a pair of dumb hicks who think knocking off ATMs is a big score. A sticky situation indeed!
When the bank’s security system locks everyone inside, Tripp, Kaitlin and the other customers and employees are hostages. But when people begin mysteriously dying, the group begins to wonder whether there’s someone else in the bank up to no good.

With two simultaneous bank robberies going on at the same time, Flypaper is a real hoot! Check it out on Blu-ray and DVD now and read on for our review…
Tripp (Patrick Dempsey) strolls into a bank to get some change and finds himself ending up as a hostage for two bank robbing gangs that are holding up the bank he’s chosen to use. With an almost Sherlock Holmes like intelligence, Tripp decides to try and solve the Agatha Christie inspired mystery, whilst trying to protect and win the affections of bank teller Kaitlin (Ashley Judd), who he’s irrationally fallen for! But not everything is at it seems, and Tripp may just have a hard time trying to solve the multiple twists and turns that keep coming his way…
Flypaper is a brilliant blend of action, drama and laugh out loud comedy, with an underlying mystery thrown in for good measure.

To mark the release of Flypaper on DVD and Blu-ray Now, Lions Gate Home Entertainment have given us three copies of this DVD action boxset pictured to give away which included Flypaper starring Patrick Dempsey and Ashley Judd.
During a seemingly normal afternoon, Tripp Kennedy (Patrick Dempsey) strolls into his bank near closing time, just as two different bank robbery gangs unwittingly target it at the same time. As a shoot-out erupts, Tripp tries to protect the bank teller Kaitlin (Ashley Judd), who has a smart, but pretty head filled with prime numbers.
As the conflicting gangs deadlock themselves in a standoff, one clearly a group of slick professionals and the other a couple of dim-witted buffoons named Peanut Butter (Tim Blake Neslon) and Jelly (Pruitt Taylor Vince) , the bank’s security system starts the end of day lockdown and seals everyone in the building.

There have been many heist movies over the years, some great, some not so great and some just plain unseen. One of my favourite heist flicks of all time is the little-seen Foolproof, which is a quirky action comedy about a gang of “theoretical” bank robbers who plan heists to perfection but never actually carry them out – that is until one day their plans for a jewellery heist are stolen and used by a real thief, played by the UK’s very own David Suchet (Poirot) who then blackmails the trio, led by a young Ryan Reynolds, into really committing a robbery. To celebrate the release of action comedy Flypaper starring Ashley Judd and Patrick Dempsey, we have taken a look to see what we think have been the most famous (or infamous) bank heists, with the biggest losses to date…
Bank of America robbery happened in 1975, Mayfair, London. £8 million was stolen; only £500,000 was ever recovered. Dunbar Armored robbery happened in 1997, La, California. This is the largest cash robbery to have occurred in the United States to date. The thieves made off with Us$ 18.9 million in cash. The John Dillinger robbery happened in 1933. John Dillinger was best known for his elaborate scheming, from posing to be a salesman of bank alarm systems to pretending to film a bank robbery scene in order to stake out future heist locations. His biggest win was in Indiana where he stole $75,000 in cash. “Securitas depot robbery” happened on a February evening in 2006. This is the largest bank robbery in British History.

To celebrate the release of the action-heist movie Flypaper, which sees Dempsey stars alongside Ashley Judd, we thought we would look back over Dempsey’s life and put together what we think have been Dempsey’s Top 5 moments in his personal and professional life that have maybe helped him get to where he is now…
1) Getting yelled at by Michael Bay on the set of Transformers 3 as Dempsey plays a practical joke on him, has got to be a character building moment for Patrick.
2) “I came second in the international juggler’s competition” quoted Dempsey in an interview as he can apparently juggled five balls at once at the junior division in 1982-83.
3) Starring in the November 1989 issue of Playboy in the pictorial named “Sex In Cinema 1989″, gave him an international reputation.

Last weekend was an especially brutal one for new releases, with Fright Night, Conan the Barbarian and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World all performing well below expectations. But numerous indies and other limited releases had it even worse: Renny Harlin's 5 Days of War grossed less than $7,000 on two screens. The Patrick Dempsey/Ashley Judd heist romcom Flypaper barely broke $1,000 in a pair of theaters. But something called The Worst Movie Ever! had arguably the worst movie opening ever: $11.

New to Theatres This Weekend: Conan the Barbarian, Fright Night, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World
The middle of August is a strange time for movie releases. By now, all of the major blockbusters have come and gone, leaving us with an unpredictable assortment of odds and ends. Hitting theatres this weekend we have a pair of remakes, a romantic drama, and one of Robert Rodriguez's patented cheapo movies for kids (complete with scratch and sniff cards). Fright Night seems to be the surprise of the bunch, earning a lot of positive reviews, but One Day, Conan the Barbarian, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World have not been quite so lucky. In limited release we have Renny Harlin's 5 Days of War, Flypaper starring Patrick Dempsey, and Griff the Invisible, yet another superhero comedy starring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood). Most people are expecting The Help to top the box office this weekend... what are your predictions? Will you be watching anything this weekend?...

Remember all those “Pulp Fiction” wannabes a decade ago -- the ones with name ensemble casts, wacky characters, beaucoup shootouts and self-consciously colorful, rat-a-tat dialogue? Add to the list the tardy – and not especially notable -- "Flypaper.” And if it feels a little stale, there’s a good reason: The script was written a dozen years ago by the then aspiring screenwriting team of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, a duo now red hot after the blockbuster success two years ago of “The Hangover.” “Flypaper,” which screened at the Sundance Film Festival...

Title: Flypaper Director: Rob Minkoff Starring: Patrick Dempsey, Ashley Judd, Jeffrey Tambor, Mekhi Phifer, Octavia Spencer, Curtis Armstrong, Tim Blake Nelson, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Matt Ryan Finding a thorough comedic crime-caper is almost as hard as locating a decent hard rock album these days. Meaning the entire production needs to have the ability to entertain & intrigue all the way until the credits roll. Basically, the levels should never drop or deviate from the intended approach. The re-whatever “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise found a way to handle that stated criteria, and there’s been a few solid buddy-cop flicks in recent years that hit the right pitch. Even a film such as...

Part heist picture, part farce, part whodunit, and all frantic genre exercise for its own sake, Flypaper builds off the hooky premise of two simultaneous bank robberies. One group of thieves is of the Hans Gruber-in-Die-Hard variety, high-tech and professional, with fancy steel-cased laptops, helmets with night-vision goggles, and enough firepower to blast their way through any barricade. The other are a pair of redneck, smash-and-grab types who appear deep into the 600s on a list of Most Wanted for Grand Larceny. He's best known for playing Spock in Jj Abrams' reboot of Star Trek or, for you fans of the small screen, as Gabriel Gray/Skylar on "Heroes," but Zachary Quinto wears other hats as well. He will be donning his producer chapeau when his Before The Door Pictures production company produces the elevated horror film The Banshee Chapter.
For those of you who were wondering, "elevated horror" is a format that is more dramatic and character-driven, focusing primarily on atmosphere and dread and less on gore.
The screenplay for The Banshee Chapter was written by Blair Erickson, who will be taking the helm of this picture, making his feature directorial debut. What we’ve gotten so far on the film is that it centers around a missing person, mind-altering chemicals, and clandestine government experiments. There's a recipe for success if I've ever heard one!
