The writing declined this season in general, but the character arcs of so many people were hard to watch. Josh and Officer Gene have both become deplorable. Josh is a toxic ego-driven baby man who had his feelings hurt. Gene, for some reason, has empowered him to exact his revenge in an over-the-top way that isn't realistic--he ends up driving the case against Murphy more than anyone. The bromance that put him at the helm, for all intents and purposes, makes little sense. His dialogue has no nuance whatsoever. That character is ruined and needs to be cut. Gene, who was a likeable "good guy" in previous seasons, has become a Grade A douche bag. There's very little grey in this season--all the characters are good or bad, except Trey, Darnell, Murphy and Felix, but grey is where things get interesting. I love Murphy's scrappy smarts and Felix is my favorite character. If you can build the next season around Murphy, Felix, Trey and Darnell, I would watch but the rest of them aren't worth another season.
