Round Three: The Rivalry (1970-1974)

Muhammad Ali is out of exile and allowed to fight. It is a long road to get another crack at the heavyweight belt now owned by Joe Frazier.

Ali still had another fight in his hands, this time with the Supreme Court. The threat of going to jail for not being drafted had not gone away.

The Frazier fight was for the richest purse ever for the time. Both fighters would make money.

Frazier had idolised Ali, he had given Ali money when times were lean for him. In the build up to the fight, Ali disrespected Frazier and did it using racial stereotypes.

Frazier never forgave him and was going to take it out on Ali in the ring. Ali was slower and had not trained hard. He was beaten by Frazier but he also did not leave the ring unscathed.

The fight heralded one of the greatest eras of heavyweight boxing. George Foreman was on the rise and he soon became the champion. He demolished Frazier.

Ali had to work his way back but in his way was the crabby Ken Norton who handed Ali another defeat.

Ali as a boxer was down and out. As a man he was free, the Supreme Court sided with him.

The documentary also covers Ali's messy private life. His constant womanising, his abrasive relationship with the Nation of Islam.

It ends in 1974 with the best yet to come.
