Deserves a Second Season
mujacko200219 December 2021
When the "grand daddy" (Japan) of BL stories flexes its muscles, it just tramps everything in its path. This is so good, its like eating my favorite cake and ice cream all at the same time. Its not over the top, its not overly acted, the storyline is easy to appreciate but it does make you excited on what is going to happen next, its cohesive, its just so delectably freakingly gooddddddd. What i also like about the series is the familiar faces i've seen on other BL films especially Shirasu, i will always love "Life - Love On The Line". This series brought me feelings from "We Best Love" and "Light On Me". Lovveeee it!!!! I hope they get to have a Season 2 with original casts of course. Thank you.

Love in all its splendid awkwardness
gee-1518 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Aoki is an impulsive, goofy high schooler who borrows an eraser from cute Hashimoto, the girl sitting next to him. He sees that she has written the name "Ida" with a heart by it. Aoki concludes that Hashimoto must have a crush on Ida, the quiet reserved boy sitting in front of Aoki. As Aoki has a crush on Hashimoto, this is very disheartening and he drops the eraser on the floor where it is picked up and seen by the aforementioned Ida. In an attempt to save Hashimoto from embarrassment, Aoki claims the eraser as his own. To Aoki's great surprise, Ida tells him that he will seriously think about having a romantic relationship with Aoki. This triggers a series of romantic misunderstandings and escapades involving himself, Ida, Hashimoto and Aoki's best friend, Aida.

It's rare to find a series filled with characters who are so compassionate and hilarious at the same time. The actor playing Aoki is definitely the comic center as his deception eventually leads to him developing real feelings for Ida. (His reaction to this realization while bathing is absurdly comical). The serious-minded Ida and overconfident Aida lend able support. But my favorite character has to be Hashimoto, the short, cute, sweet girl with the temper and "strength of a gorilla." (The scene where she angrily slaps Aida to the ground is rewatchably funny).

But even the supporting characters are quirkily interesting: the overeager class president and his wet-blanket of a vice-president, the perpetually cheerful volleyball captain, the youth camp's Rambo-like mountain guide, the two lovebird students swooning over each other and many others. I also appreciated the positive portrayal of their teacher, Mr. Tanaguchi, who lends quiet support to all of them without the students being really aware of it.

The two romances that develop don't have much "heat" (they all seem like good friends rather than romantic partners) but this is minor. In the end, the series' goal is to make you laugh and maybe encourage you to think just a little bit about love, compassion and friendship.

Good Enough
PennyReviews25 December 2021
Japanese Drama "Kieta Hatsukoi" is a story of a series of misunderstandings.

The drama starts on a cute note and continues that lighthearted, sweet atmosphere till the very ending. The main lead is adorable, too boot, with plenty of lovely moments that he executed brilliantly. The love story was equally adorable and the main couple had great dynamics, which helped a lot. The second couple was enjoyable too, but had a messy process. And, admirably, the first part of the drama was better than the second one, which was pleasing, yes, but started to slow things down a little.

Finally, the performances were great by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, 7 out of 10.

A warm, sweet, and pure gay love story
ivanshenyifan22 December 2021
This is my first time to write a review. This drama depicts two unrealistically adorable boys accidentally discovered their sexual-orientation and fell in love with each other, reminding people that how beautiful and pure a relationship could be. I am most impressed by how the two characters reconciled with their own identity and dealt with the social environment together. The Japanese-style respect and communications also makes this drama light-hearted and sincere. The fast pace of story-telling is perfect, though i would not mind spending more time watching these two innocent boys' interactions. This drama rebuilt my love and moral standards, after having witnessed so many ugliness in reality. I am grateful that i watched this. Love to Michieda, his action was impeccable.

Fluff and Interesting

I love how they portray the protagonist's character in a cute, enteratining way. Although I'm expecting more especially with the ending, it really exceeded my expectation especially its an adaptation. Definitely deserves a second season.

Progression with not the best final result
visual_addict25 December 2021
Keita Hatsukoi was an enjoyable watch but didn't emerge out to be extra ordinary.

First few episodes were beautiful, I loved the play that took place and I loved Aoki's character development, which are the reasons for the good enough rating that I'm giving this show.

As the show went on it started to lack in the quality that was seen in initial episodes, and they could have been better written. But keeping in mind that this show is adapted from a manga and not written separately, I'll ignore that point.

Altogether a cute, fluffy show without a really thrilling or out of ordinary storyline.

Ten Across The Board

I was so thrilled with My Love Mix Up.

Aoki and Ida stole the show. Hashimoto and Aida were a treat to watch.

Even the small roles were memorable. Like Ida's mother. The class president and vice president. Even the homophobic student teacher/Aoki's tutor.

This BL series told a story in which two seemingly straight men fall for one another because of a simple mistake and two great guys in Ida and Aoki.

Another one worth watching and re-watching.

Not much in the way of intimacy or kissing and such but still incredible and very funny at times. Great Acting. Great Story.

A fluffy chocolate cupcake!
moonlitreveluv8 April 2022
Taking you to the feeling of eating a fluffy cupcake, with only smiles and giggles to come by, Kieta Hatsukoi is a chill but really enjoyable watch. It is humorous, witty, but warm and heartfelt.

The four main actors brought phenomenal performances as each upholds to the characters they are portraying. Hats off to Shunsuke and Riko!

The story accomplished what it promised giving out hunger for the audience to come back and indulge once again to the beauty of young love.

Moreover, the theme songs are worth to sing along, too! With Snow Man's Secret Touch alluding to Ida's calm but sure love for Aoki and Naniwa Danshi's Ubu LOVE reflecting to the latter's brightness and lightheartedness, a perfection is up on your way!

Kieta Hatsukoi is an absolute tread to the growing sensation of BL genre!

One of the most awful acting and writing I've ever seen
deanrellia9 August 2023
The only reason this awful series even blew up was because of the hot actors and even they can't act properly.

The writing is cringey and not even well developed and the main guy only knows how to whine to save his own life and he just continues to do so until the end of the episode.

The people that kept saying this series is great is clearly high on drugs and/or clearly teenagers believing stuffs like that is great.

I'm so disappointed that I wasted my time watching this garbage and some of you should just save yourself from this hot pile and better off watching other well deserved Japanese bl.

Very healing and happy story

Warning: Spoilers
There is no misunderstanding between the two sides. Although the male protagonist is very confused, he can work hard to get into college for his lover. The good friends are also very cute. It is really pleasant to see friends getting along.

My babies!
Bibiliography24 September 2022
My Love Mix-Up is a BL drama about high schoolers in the throes of first love. I was invested the two love stories and laughed so hard in the process. It's lovely the writes and director chose the comedic route.

(For longer than he'd care to admit, Sota Aoki (Shunsuke Michieda) has had a crush on his classmate Mio Hashimoto (Riko Fukumoto). Sitting next to her in class every day, Aoki wishes he could find a way to tell her how he feels but something keeps holding him back. Despite being unable to confess his feelings, he's at least able to talk to her about other, simpler things. He's even occasionally borrowed school supplies from her, which is why he didn't think twice about asking to borrow an eraser from her when he found himself needing one during class one day.

Little did Aoki know that borrowing one simple eraser would change his life forever. Noticing Hashimoto had written something on the eraser he'd borrowed, Aoki is devastated to find that she had written "Ida-kun". Crushed by the realization that she has absolutely no romantic interest in him, Aoki finds himself so flustered that he accidentally drops the eraser. Much to his horror, the very same Kousuke Ida (Ren Meguro), picks up the eraser and hands it back to Aoki. Noticing his name on the eraser, Ida suddenly sees Aoki in an entirely different light.

With Ida now convinced Aoki has a crush on him and Hashimoto wanting nothing more from him than their casual friendship, Aoki has no idea what to do next. Will he be able to clear up this misunderstanding with Ida, or will he find that fate has other plans?)

Must watch!!
stemflower10 August 2023
Great, here's an organized version of your review: My Love Mix-Up This is one of my favourite dramas! Although I usually don't like misunderstandings in a story because it stresses me out, it was a necessary part of this story and was incorporated really well along with love and friendship.

The characters looked amazing! They all played their roles so well and added to the overall enjoyment of the drama.

The plot was my favourite thing about this drama. A guy has a crush on a girl, but thinks the girl has a crush on someone else. Meanwhile, that person thinks they have a crush on them. It's GENIUS.

This was the only drama that I've watched twice and I highly recommend it!

Cute romance; Funny at times; Background score; Cinematography
parnildh27 August 2022
Such a cute and simple love story! Aww...Fairytale romance about little things and gestures but with real settings and situations. Not like larger than life disney stuff.

Aoki and Ida are so cute! Great chemistry! The little things like holding hands between Aoki and Ida are so adorable!

Hashimoto is adorable too. I didn't like Aida (the character, not the actor) though. He was so full of himself.

Cinematography is brilliant. Background score is so melodious.

I can't gush more about it... watch if you're looking for escapism from this desolate world. This show makes life look so beautiful and makes you believe in love and empathy.
