The directorial debut of Jason Stone (best known for being co-writer on inspiration for This is the End, short movie Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse) The Calling sees Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon), a police detective in the small Canadian town of Fort Dundas, investigating the brutal murder of one of the towns inhabitants. When one body leads to another and another, Micallef and her team, including new recruit Ben (Topher Grace), come to realize the religious fanatic (Christopher Heyerdhal) behind the murders is only just beginning. A totally engaging police prcedural, The Calling makes great use of the gloomy Canadian wilderness, all dense forests and barren, snow covered fields , to instill a nice sense of dread into proceedings. It hits the ground running, with the first act more concerned with personal lives of Micallef and those who surround her. It does a great job of building up the characters,...

While summer 2014 has been typically top heavy with tentpoles, the pickings have been a little more slim for filmgoers in the market for grittier fare. However, if you've been looking for a serial killer potboiler, "The Calling" is right up your street. Starring Susan Sarandon, Topher Grace, Donald Sutherland and Ellen Burstyn, the Jason Stone ("Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse") directed movie follows a smalltown detective whose investigation of a string of murders suggest a killer answering to a higher power. In this exclusive clip, you'll see the film's police putting a series of highly unappealing pieces together. Currently available on VOD, you can catch "The Calling" on the big screen in limited release starting on August 29th. Check out the clip below, as well as the full trailer for the film.

The end is nigh. To think it all started in 2007 as "Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse" a short YouTube clip starring Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel as themselves if they were degenerate roommates living in squalor during the apocalypse. This of course evolved into what's now known as "This Is The End," an ensemble apocalypse comedy that's expanded to also include friends-playing-themselves like James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. And the premise is much the same; it's friends trapped during the apocalypse, only this time they're stuck at James Franco's house after a massive party. The official synopsis: The comedy 'This Is The End' follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house,...

It's now nearly two years since "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," the firecracker kung-fu romantic comedy that became a critical and fan favorite, even if it never quite set the box-office alight. The film's still playing monthly at rep theaters like the New Beverley in L.A, an instant cult classic, but for nearly 24 months, there's been very little news as to what Wright might do next. He's not been out of the spotlight, thanks to his scripting of "The Adventures of Tintin" and executive producing of "Attack The Block" and "Sightseers," the latter of which will premiere at Cannes in the next couple of weeks. And there have been projects percolating: more writing work has happened on Marvel's "Ant-Man," and the mysterious "Baby Driver" is also on the dance card somewhere, while the director was snapped up by megastar Johnny Depp to direct a new film version of "The Night Stalker...

Back in 2007, Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel, along with Jason Stone, their friend from film school decided to make a short film. It was a horror comedy titled, Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse. What's it about? Baruchel sums it up best, "Two sarcastic Canadians talking shit to each other during the apocalypse." After the video got a huge response and a ton of hits, several different studios wanted the guys to make it into a full length feature. Unfortunately the thing hasn't...

Jay and Seth are none other than those two hooligans Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel. Seth is famous for “Knocked Up”, “Superbad” and a metric whack ton of other great films. Jay was also in “Knocked Up” and is soon to be seen sans body in the animated “How To Train Your Dragon”. A few years ago, the two buds got together to make a teaser film as a pitch for “Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse”. In the teaser, two roommates play out the end times, stuck together in their apartment while the world outside faces The Zombie Threat, or the Big Flu or who the hell knows what nut contracting disaster. Two guys short on munchies and jammed together in a filthy apartment is Armageddon of a different sort. Jay Baruchel was ambushed by the Io9 guys and forced to give up an update on The Apocalypse and...
