Feel good Christmas movie for the family
mikevb-31 December 2010
This is your typical relax after dinner Christmas movie, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yes, the plot isn't all that, and very predictable.. But nonetheless this movie is a nice way to kill 90 minutes.

The acting is alright, and Emmanuelle is very lovable as always, and easy on the eyes as well. Besides that, Ruccolo put up a decent performance - I didn't really think of his character in Two Guys and a Girl for any moment - so that's a good thing.

If you want to see a pretty typical "christmassy" feel good movie, this one is worth your while, go check it out.

Too much plot
joshuathirteen13 December 2015
I love all the silly, "you can see the happy ending after the first 3 minutes" Christmas movies. I love them. I watch a ton every year. But this one just doesn't know what it wants to be and fails miserably trying. This movie has at least 4 (maybe 5) typical Christmas movie plots going at once, and doesn't have enough time to develop motivation of characters or resolutions for any them. Even for a Christmas movie people act in extremely contrived ways. You can't figure out why they would do that. And you don't really like them enough to care. Back stories are hinted at but not developed. It seemed the author had no idea how to set up the situation so just randomly got people to move to starting places for the story. Then there is too much plot to resolve, so abracadabra a small event or two suddenly makes everyone make decisions to tie up a happy ending for all the plots elements. Motivations for change are completely inadequate. If they had picked one or two of the several problems in the characters lives and focused on motivations and resolutions for that, it could have been a good movie. But it wasn't.

Typical Romantic Christmas movie
rebeccav-7148925 December 2019
The movie was ok...it's a romance Christmas movie so I didn't expect much . The one thing that bothered me throughout the film was the main character's eyebrows! They were horrible and over tweezed! Her whole look was so horrible....no makeup and shabby dried straw like hair... she just didn't look the part she was portraying. Very distracting. The acting was average and Dean Cain was overacting for sure.

I don't know if it's because this movie is 10yrs old but what is up with Ally's eyebrows? They are SO thin...it's distracting. Her hair is a mess....why? Please run a brush through her hair. The plot was nothing special...kind of dragged on. Overall - cheesy predictable Christmas movie with hair/make up distractions

A Christmas movie that doesn't make you think too hard
troywhigham23 November 2012
Emmanuelle Vaugier plays a suma cum laud college graduate trying to break into the world of advertising. She interviews with one of the hottest agencies in the field, where she thinks she's interviewing for an account executive position but is instead hired as the nanny for the CEO's two children. Along the way she begins to fall in love with one of the agency's male executives who is struggling to come up with a pitch for a major client. Thinking that the executive will think less of her for being a nanny, she lies and tells him that she's a "special consultant" to the agency, hoping to impress him. As the nanny, she teaches the children that Shakespeare can be fun... if you set up your own play. Regimented in their behavior by their over-bearing mother and absentee father, the children embrace their new nanny's ideas of how to do things (hence the references to the "Sound of Music").

Already we know how the movie will end, but what makes you want to stick around and watch is (a) Ms. Vaugier, who does a great job of being the playful nanny as well as the business-first executive, and (b) a simple, straight-forward plot that you can watch over hot cocoa and spongecake.

You probably won't cry at the end, but at least you'll laugh at the more humorous moments.

the worst Christmas film I think I have ever seen
enquiries-223-29452826 November 2011
This is just terrible. The female main character is so sickly sweet I spent the first half of the film thinking it was a joke/spoof Christmas film and second half cringing behind a cushion it was so uncomfortable to watch. It's like 'the sound of music' gone terribly, terribly wrong. The acting is the worst I have ever seen, and I watch 'true movies' on sky.

Dean Cain is awful as the advertising customer, so ridiculous it's hard to put into words. I feel so strongly about this film that I felt I needed to warn others! This film actually put me off Christmas and I love rubbish Christmas movies. If you watch this film, you only have yourself to blame.

Adequate
SanteeFats4 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Okay another decent Christmas movie. Dean Cain plays a real hard ass looking for the right ad company for his chocolate line. At the end of the movie though he steps up and shows some humanity by telling Ally, the now nanny, to not make his mistake and to go for it. Ally is a marketing person who makes the mistake of putting the wrong holiday connection between the product and the owner. This leads to her being fired. She catches on as a nanny to another advertising exec and actually excels with the kids but not the uptight mommy. After giving her maybe boyfriend, Justin, the idea that lands the chocolate account from Cain she is found out to be the nanny and not an ad exec. Mommy realizes her errors and changes her behavior, feeding the kids pancakes when she usually goes with something a lot more healthy. So with her change of heart she throws a Christmas party for everyone except for Ally. The kids take care of that by inviting her to the party. She meets up with Justin and they hook back up as boyfriend and girlfriend. Daddy actually shows up for Christmas which surprises the entire family, pleasantly of course. He has realized that family is more important. Mommy realizes she wants to spend more time at home so takes a sabbatical sabbatical for a year. She leaves Justin in charge and promotes Ally from nanny to an ad exec. So as is typical in this type of film all ends well for every one.

A Nanny for never
RHewison5 May 2012
It was an all-round Christmas cheese-fest. It was very much your typical romantic comedy in a nut-shell; girl meets boy, lies about who she is, he finds out, happy ending. Whilst it did have some good moments it was often cringe-worthy to watch. Very little plot substance and some very flat acting meant that a lot of the film feels wasted. For example to make more of a story they had Ally befriend the children but this just fell flat on its face with bad acting and scenes that lacked reality. The children's relationship with their mother, the high powered advertising exec, was very odd as well and this too added to the disbelief that the children were in any way a part of the film. Whilst some scenes were shot beautifully, with stunning views of the house, the rest of it felt very home-movie-esque. The ending I could have quoted word for word as it was so predictable. However all was not lost, as there were still some nice moments and if you want a simple, cheap rom-com to warm up your Christmas, it does the job, although I doubt many of the actors will include it on their CV's.

A Lighthearted & Romantic Christmas Family Drama
P3n-E-W1s37 December 2017
This is an above average Christmas film to make you feel happy and full of the joy of the season. It tells the story of Ally (Vaugier), an advertising executive who loses her job just weeks before Christmas. Unable to pay the bills and mortgage she asks her friend, Tina (Thompson) for a lending hand, as her sister works for a top Advertising Agency. Unfortunately, there's some confusion in what positions she's applying for and instead of getting a job in the company Ally is hired to Nanny the bosses kids.

One of the saving graces of the film is that the kids are not nasty. So many of these types of film have the children being shown that it's better to be nice than naughty, so as to avoid Santa's naughty list. So what we have is a heartwarming tale of a family pulled apart by ambition and career finding their way back to the right track and getting their priorities straight.

The acting, on the whole, is pretty decent, though there are a few moments where Cain does a good job of hamming it up. I'm not too sure if this is intentional, though, for me, the film would have been stronger if his character had been straight and not over the top - as the comedic value was lost to the film.

Overall, this is a nice Christmas film that I would recommend to all who love this time of year. It's also a nice family drama and romance, so if you enjoy them then grab a hot chocolate and put your feet up this winter and enjoy.

This Movie Whomps...

Characters flat. Dialogue hollow. Some of the witty repartee actually implies an offensive bias against nannies and the families who hire them. Just throw this movie in the trash

Sweet and Simple
NikkiBay829 November 2013
I thoroughly enjoyed this made-for-TV Christmas movie. This was the first movie I've watched with Emmanuelle Vaugier and I hope to see her again. She was a refreshing character and her sweet demeanor was believable.

Vaugier plays an ad executive that gets fired before Christmas. She goes to what she thinks is another ad exec job interview, but it ends up being an interview for a nanny. She accepts the job anyway and teaches the wealthy, sheltered children what it's really like to have fun. She also finds love in the process with Richard Ruccolo's character.

I usually do not enjoy movies with children as main characters, but the children in this movie were pretty decent actors. And by that I mean they acted like real children, unlike child actors that act too adult-like for their own age. They were also well-behaved (which was really nice) and pleasant.

Dean Cain was not a main character in this movie and should not be on the cover. I don't know who this guy is, but he is a horrible actor. His overacted facial expressions made me cringe. He also tried playing an aggressive, firm corporation owner, but ended up playing a complete a**hole. He was really unenjoyable. The children's mother, Cynthia Gibb, was also a little too stuck-up for my liking. Kind of ruins the Christmas feel.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. Vaugier and Ruccolo had great chemistry and the message the movie sends was a good one.

Avoids most of the cliches ... and that's good
VetteRanger26 October 2022
Dean Cain plays VERY against type in this movie, as a bombastic company owner. When Ally Leeds, an advertising exec, pitches a campaign including an element certain to anger him, he storms out of the room and fires her ad agency, leading to her dismissal.

Later, thinking she's interviewing for a job at another agency as an ad exec, the owner of that agency thinks she's applying as a nanny and gives her that job. A bit desperate for ANY income, she accepts.

He unorthodox nanny techniques are fun, but complication arise when she falls for an ad exec at that company and pretends to also work there as an ad exec.

This is a fun movie, not at the top of our list, but one we're just fine with seeing again from time to time. It helps that we love Dean Cain, even though his role here is minor and, as I wrote, against type.

Predictable
gfinkelhoffer-4502619 December 2020
What was up with Vaugier's hair? It looks fine in one scene then it looks like someone plopped a straw wig on her head. Not enough money for the hair & makeup department to even buy a comb or brush?

It was 'refreshing' to see that the children weren't holy terrors, very unusual for this type of movie.

Too sappy
Jackbv12330 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Does this movie show that you can lie to your boyfriend and boss, sneak around the bosses house like a spy when she's gone, and break all her rules but still get a big promotion? Also, apparently all you need to be a success and save the company is one good idea. Well, I guess it is an ad agency where ideas are gold.

Ally pushes the envelope a little too much for me. And the ending is just too perfect in a sappy way. Everyone gets everything. Of course that is true in most of these Christmas romcoms, but for me this one was just a little too much. Part of being too much was how quickly and completely mom changed her entire outlook and really so did dad.

The acting was OK and the kids did a good job. Besides the fact that this was another Nanny movie, a lot of the story was at least a little different. For instance Shakespeare and yoga for two kids under 10.

Most people who watch these movies already expect sappiness, so there is still a good chance many will enjoy this movie.

An Enjoyable But Typical Christmas Movie With An Annoying Marketing Problem
tabuno17 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This typical romantic comedy of mis-identification, where the principal character ends up being a nanny instead of an artistic designer for a prestigious ad agency also has a huge false pretense of promoting Dean Cain as a principal role in the movie. Really, if one is to even approach to enjoying this movie, it's helpful to be upfront and describe more accurately that Dean Cain has more of an extended cameo role in this fun but run of the mill Christmas romance movie. The plot is pretty standard but entertaining and enjoyable for a something to watch during the holiday season. The nanny role is also quite nicely done without the overly stylized dramatics of most nanny-tinged comedic movies.

Nice Change of Pace
Christmas-Reviewer3 September 2016
"A Nanny for Christmas" is a 2010 comedy film, directed by Michael Feifer with a screenplay by Michael Ciminera and Richard Gnolfo. Starring Emmanuelle Vaugier, Dean Cain, Richard Ruccolo, Cynthia Gibb, and Sierra McCormick, the film was released November 23, 2010. [1]

Ally (Emmanuelle Vaugier) is a smart young career woman who find herself needing a new job. Samantha (Cynthia Gibb) is a busy Beverly Hills advertising executive/mom who's always too busy to take care of her kids. Danny Donner (Dean Cain) is the tough-guy owner of a chocolate company who wants a major hit ad for his company. This film is the 40th Christmas film I have seen this year. Now there certain things you expect in a Christmas film. That's what gives these films a bad name. This film however has some of the things you expect but I love the fact that the children in this film are not brats to begin with. "They are nice kids".

I borrowed this DVD. I am not sure where it will play on TV. Look for it on Hallmark or the UP Channel. Family Safe and worth seeking out.

1 star for the actual stars of this movie: the kidss
lahtisarah-1121826 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Picked this up on a lark at a thrift store for $1.

By the end of watching it, I had a migraine so bad from trying to understand where they were going, if they were following the 'nanny-not-nanny dates the bigwig of company (or companies)', or is this to end up a 2-guys-likes-1-gal scenario in the end, and 'why is the side guy the lead and the lead name on the cover in a throwaway role??'.

The only thing that is likable in this movie are the kids, only because they play the naive intelligents.

You expect them to follow the 'be nice in front of mommy but be total arses to the nanny' role, but end up being darlings to someone they know within 2 seconds isn't an actual nanny. Sure, let's go with that, as if how their parents has been neglecting them physically, mentally, and emotionally for years is not going to affect them negatively.

What kid eats flax smoothie bowls that cheerfully? I'm looking at you boy!

This is supposed to be a Christmas romance movie, but with so many potential unanswered subplots that could have been the main plot of other films casually tossed in as teased one-line answers to unasked questions within the first 20 minutes, and over-the-top acting in the only 4 2-minute scenes he had by the person set up as the main draw of this movie (Hello, 90s TV Superman, we're looking at you!) that, if they followed the cover, should have been either the single dad or the uncle that leaves his would be relationship for the accidental nanny he hurriedly hired.

I am in need those Tylenol and bottle of rum for that shot of eggnog now.
