Great end to Series one.

The Miss United Britain beauty contest takes place at Great Slaughter, to ensure the case is handled properly, someone from CID is called in to help.

This was such a good end to what's been a wonderfully watchable and enjoyable first series. This one felt very authentic, and dare I say it, the most believable, the way the characters behaved and acted, I could buy that for the time.

Some nice friction here among the regulars, I think that's the first time we've seen anything along those lines happening.

Some really nice acting once again, Patrick Baladi is always great, and Paul Thornley was excellent as the annoying guest Detective.

I was so glad to see that a second series had been commissioned, there's so much more they could do with this show, I'd like them to develop Sister Boniface more, they need to explore her character a little deeper.

Great fun, 9/10.

Fun mystery

Beauty contestants, conflicts over swimwear, and a dead body in a pool is what you get in this lively entry. The Met bloke from Scotland Yard is absolutely inept despite him thinking he's Sherlock Holmes. He looks down at Sister Boniface or WPC Button and annoys DI Gillespie. DS livingstone is a bit more respectful towards the Scotland Yard as he's promised a transfer to Scotland Yard, so he's a bit conflicted. The fun aspect is seeing our heroes showing up the sexist and inept officer.

Warning: Spoilers
This is the season one finale of Sister Boniface. I am a huge fan of Father Brown, and I think Sister Boniface took several episodes to find its rhythm and style, and certainly has come into its own as a standalone spin-off from Father Brown, just like Frasier became a standalone spin-off from Cheers.

There she goes...we have a big beauty pageant in Crimes and Miss Demeanours and there's a murderer on the loose in Great Slaughter.

One thing that perplexes me is that Jerry Iwu doesn't even have his own Wikipedia page, so I can only wonder why if you know what I mean.

Also it's good to see Ivan Kaye getting more screen time after his series The Coroner was unjustly axed after only two seasons.

They saved the best until last

Superb! The Miss United Britain contest comes to town and one of the contestants is murdered. An obnoxious toerag from the Met is drafted in and CC Lowsley gives DI Gillespie instructions to solve the case before the Londoner. The Met bloke doesn't think much of Sister Boniface or WPC Button and gets right up DI Gillespie's nose. Much of the fun of this episode comes from seeing how utterly inept the Met officer is, compared to the Great Slaughter team who he disparages at every turn.

DS Livingstone is torn between his loyalty to DI Gillespie and his ambitions with the Met, but in a predictably poignant ending, he decides to stay in Great Slaughter.

Crimes and Miss Demeanours

The final episode of the first series and the beauty contest comes to Slaughter Abbey.

The Miss United Britain contest is televised on the BBC. The last thing Commander Lowsley wants is murder. That just what has happened to one of the contestants, she is found dead in the swimming pool.

Fearing negative publicity the anachronistic Detective Chief Inspector Winner is brought down from Scotland Yard to solve the case. He is anachronistic in the sense that he acts like a 21st century London policeman. A sexist know it all who arrests the wrong person and thinks he has got his woman. The owner of a black stiletto, which was the murder weapon.

It is left to Sister Boniface and Sam to find the real killer. A destroyed card was a clue that a favourite for the contest was at risk for disqualification.

Winner was an arrogant antagonist. It looked like goodbye for Felix. The story has all the tropes of the beauty contests. The organiser who slept with the contestants, pregnancies and whether they demeaned women or not.
