The lead character, Mr. Oman, represents the hard life on the streets of Bern with amazing optimism. We see Oman in the office of Viktor Frankelin - a journalist - giving an exhausting account of being Sans Papiers. The camera switches between Mr. Oman in the journalist's office and his experiences in everyday life. The viewer sees Mr. Oman searching for a place to sleep and work. Furthermore, the audience learns about his flight to Switzerland and his fear of the police - which unfortunately proves to be justified.
