Rab is suffering from impotence, something which Jamesie seems to take great delight in winding Rab up about. Mary and Ella meanwhile have been invited to a dinner held in honour of Robert Burns as the special guests of Albaclean, which is run by the smarmy Saunders McLure.
Mary and Ella are keen to make a good impression in the hope that he will employ them but Rab dislikes him on sight. McLure later humiliates Rab by denouncing him in front of the other diners as a workshy scrounger. Angered and mortified, Rab storms out.
It turns out that McLure has no intention of taking Mary and Ella on but is intent on terminating The House Mice company and making their clients his own. Ever the protective husband, Rab goes to have a little man-to-man with McLure. His comeuppance, when it comes, is greatly satisfying.
Good episode from the ninth series, though the earlier ones are funnier. John Michie's McLure is a truly unlikeable man who makes Donald Trump look like a good samaritan. It was good to see Rab regain his old fire when after McLure tries to con Mary out of her company, he headbutts the slimy creep. ''I hope my manner wasn't too brusque for you!'' says Rab smugly as McLure lies whimpering in pain.
Funniest bit - the arrival of the haggis at the Burns supper. ''In other countries we scrape it off the soles of our shoes but in Scotland, we eat it!'', says Rab to the audience. I side with him on that, the taste of haggis makes me want to vomit!
