During their recent slate presentation in France, Warner Bros Animations unveiled plans to revive classic cartoon series Looney Tunes.
The episodes will vary between 1 to 6 minutes in length, with Wba aiming to produce 1,000 minutes in all. All episodes will be in classical 2D animation. The series features veteran Looney Tunes voice cast members including Jeff Bergman and Bob Bergen, and newcomer Eric Bauza taking the reins as Bugs, Daffy and Tweety. They are also in the process of developing 50 shorts that will also vary in length. One of which was shown to the audience at Warner Bros Group and Warner Bros Animation’s Annecy Fest Look Ahead.
“I wanted to go back to the ‘40s ‘Looney Tunes,’ late ‘30s, early ‘40s, super irreverent, super bananas, high energy. They pushed the surrealism, the high physicality of the animation, the expressions in the animation,” said executive producer Peter Browngardt.

One of the greatest Mexican actors is certainly making his mark here in the United States.
Eugenio Derbez has moved to the United States a few years ago to establish himself in the English language films. With the surprise success of 2013’s Instructions Not Included, he has gone on to be in films like The Book of Life, Miracles from Heaven and Netflix’s Sandy Wexler. He’ll be in a remake of Overboard and possibly as the voice for the animated film Speedy Gonzales.
Now Derbez headlines in How to Be a Latin Lover with Salma Hayek.
Derbez plays Maximo, a man who made a career of seducing rich older women, finds himself dumped after 25 years of marriage. He ends up moving in with his estranged sister, where he learns the value of family.
Rest of the cast includes Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell, Raphael Alejandro, Michael Cera, Rob Corddry,...

For years there have been rumors around Hollywood that a Speedy Gonzales animated movie was coming to the big screen. Originally, George Lopez was slated as the voice of the classic character. According to Deadline, Lopez is out and Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included, Book of Life) is in as the world’s fastest mouse. This is what the actor had to say about the project:
"In Mexico we grew up watching Speedy Gonzales. He was like a superhero to us, or maybe more like a revolutionario like Simon Bolivar or Pacho Villa. He watched out for the little people but with a lot of bravado and a weakness for the ladies. I’m really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen. And besides being Mexican— my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn’t be better."

I’d love to know the backstory behind the news today that Warner Bros. Animation Group is going to be making a Speedy Gonzales film. Warner Bros. has been much better about embracing their animation legacy than Disney has because they’ve never hidden from their own past. One of the smartest things Warner has done when releasing collections of their older animation is including cartoons that have uncomfortable racial or sexual material, pointing out that they are the product of their time rather than pretending they never happened. It bothers me that Disney is willing to continually exploit the characters from Song Of The South at the Splash Mountain attraction and in merchandising, but they keep the film locked up in a way that only makes it seem more dangerous or offensive. Instead of putting together a release that would honor the work of James Baskett and the innovations...

Hollywood hit the ground running this week. Let’s catch up on the new developments. There’s something for everyone! Rejoice!
• The first footage for the upcoming animated adaptation of Alan Moore’s classic comic Batman: The Killing Joke has been unleashed and it has us panting for more. Due to be released this summer, the 23-second teaser gives us mere glimpses into the Joker origin story. The one-off graphic novel was published in 1988 and was an instant classic, done with Moore’s trademark complex characters and story. Take a gander here and let me know what you think!
• Warner Bros. has announced plans to give its most famous Mexican mouse the big-screen treatment. That’s right, folks, Speedy Gonzales is headed to a theater near you. First seen onscreen in a 1953 short called “Cat Tails for Two,” Speedy made his real splash of a debut in a self-titled short...

This is a sentence I have been dying to write since I was first able to comprehend words; Warner Brothers is making a Speedy Gonzales feature-length film. Thankfully, Speedy will be voiced by Mexican filmmaker and actor Eugenio Derbez. Derbez had this to say about the role:
“In Mexico we grew up watching Speedy Gonzales...He was like a superhero to us, or maybe more like a revolutionario like Simon Bolivar or Pancho Villa. He watched out for the little people but with a lot of bravado and a weakness for the ladies. I’m really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen. And besides being Mexican— my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn’t be better.”
The movie, currently titled Speedy, is set to be a heist film that will re-introduce the character to a whole new generation of children.
