Mad Men producer and distributor Lionsgate is to ramp up its push into television production in the UK and is looking to hire development and production executives.
The company, which also produces Netflix’s female prison drama Orange Is The New Black and ABC’s country drama Nashville, is also searching for a head of UK TV production.
Lionsgate UK chief executive Zygi Kamasa said: “We want to create more British TV content that works in the UK but that we can also take back to the Us networks through [Lionsgate TV chairman] Kevin Beggs’ relationships. The Us networks want more British content.”
Lionsgate recently shot The Royals, a soapy Us drama about the British royal family starring Liz Hurley, in London.
Several years ago, it produced Stanley Park, a TX pilot for BBC3. The show, which was co-produced by comedy indie 6 Degrees Media, told the story of a group of young friends as they went through a series of life-changing...

Mad Men producer Lionsgate is to expand its TV production business into the UK as part of a wider international push.
The company, which produces recent Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management and country & western drama Nashville, is keen to grow its TV production business outside of the Us.
Managing director of international television Peter Iacono told ScreenDaily’s sister publication Broadcast that the company would like to replicate the success Lionsgate UK has had in film.
It has produced Jason Statham’s crime thriller Blitz, Keith Lemon: The Film and Alan Rickman’s forthcoming directorial debut A Little Chaos, which is co-produced with BBC Films.
“If we can do this in film, why can’t we do it in TV? It’s a natural evolution,” he said.
The company is in talks with potential co-production partners for drama and comedy projects, and is in early stage discussions with broadcasters.

Lionsgate is adapting Stanley Park, a pilot it produced in the UK for the BBC, for the Us market. Giving the keynote speech this afternoon at the Mipcom TV market in Cannes, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that Fox “loved it.” Writer/creator Leo Richardson is now working on the pilot script, he said. The BBC though still hasn’t made its mind up. “Shame on you,” Feltheimer said. Netflix’s current 90-day window for streaming movies after they’ve debuted on the Epix pay-tv channel could be brought forward, Feltheimer revealed. “There’s nothing sacrosanct about the 90 days,” he said. Lionsgate launched Epix 10 months ago with Viacom, Paramount and MGM. The mini-major is also in negotiations to launch more overseas pay-tv channels. So far, Lionsgate has launched Tiger Gate, an Asian pay-tv joint venture with Haim Saban’s Saban Capital Group; Asian action channel Kix; and horror/thriller channel Thrill.
