Manny's birthday is going to be celebrated at a fancy restaurant. The three families are doing everything they can to make the occasion a happy one, but before the actual dinner takes place, each family has to deal with different issues.
The most important situation is happening at the birthday boy's home. Gloria, who is viewed by her husband Jay as a little irresponsible, has lost her keys. She goes frantic trying to locate them, but she never seems to realize where she put them, in the first place. Jay is the key to solving the problem. The keys have always been in his jacket pocket, but he does not own to having them. Only Manny knows the real reason, but he will not tell his mother what really happened. For a gift, Jay has thought of getting an inappropriate gift for the boy: a BB gun!
Cameron and Mitchell's gift take a different route. At the mall, Cam, ever the helpful individual he is, goes to help an elderly man find his wife. He goes after the wrong woman, dragging her on escalators, only to find his error. Mitch has surprised for Cam. Unknown to his partner, Mitch has rehearsed to participate in a 'flash mob' dance, so popular in shopping malls. Cam is clearly impressed.
The situation with the Dunphys has to do with Phil's driving. Luke seems to be scared to be in his father's car. Haley and Alex has no desire to go to Family Camp. Both feel they have outgrown that phase of their young lives. Clair and Luke take her car, being so competitive, Claire tries to outsmart Phil.
Michael Spiller directed this chapter of the sitcom. Written by Ilana Wernick and Elaine Ko, the episode keeps moving at a rapid pace. The 'flash mob' section of the program at the mall was an amazing happening. This phenomenon seen in Youtube and other online sites is amazing for the most part, as surprised shoppers stop dead on their tracks to enjoy the impromptu celebration that no one realized must have taken a lot of rehearsal time to make it work.
