There are a lot a news shows that try to investigate corruption this way. This is a new investigation into the Canadian We Charity founded by 2 sleazy looking brothers. It's not that I can show they are corrupt they just have a televangelism style to them that looks really disgusting at first glance as this is how you trick a mass of people into giving you millions. The reason I can't really say if they are corrupt or not deep down is because all these investigations into their company are new and no courtroom has found them guilty of anything. There was a huge deal with Justin Trudeau and his family where the charity got a hundreds of millions deal from the Canadian government while possible having monetary connections to the family. Which may explain why no Canadian courtroom or agency would want to look into any potential scam here. But on the other hand this stuff is investigated by some and I have to put some faith in the state system for now. Maybe once Trudeau is gone more will be clear.
Now this doc investigation shows that they overpromised a lot in Kenya. They promised donors they would build specific "schools" for their money and then later told these donors their money had built the same school building that was in reality already funded by a lot of other big donors. These are not actual schools, but small 4 wall sheds with school tables, and a school will then have 20 such sheds. What is clear is that they did actually built some school sheds in Kenya. But they built 5 times fewer of them than they seemingly said they would.
In the documentary We Charity says donors are told they pool the money and no one big donor can build any one specific shed. Yet the sheds themselves have a donor names on them and We Charity made videos they send specific donors to tell them they built a specific shed, that many other donors were also told they built. This televangelism charity where whole stadiums are watching 2 egotistical brothers stand on a stage and preach are extremely creepy. The charity now has enough backlash so they are losing money. And they seem to use the money they have extremely ineffectively. But there is no proof the 2 brothers stole the money and are now are billionaires or something. They already got wealthy from running the charity so them living in big villas is no surprise and doesn't really prove anything. Kenya on the other hand is an extremely corrupt dictatorship where a few people steal most of the money in the country. So the simplest explanation is that these big shots in Kenya took 4/5 of the money from the gullible preacher brothers who were scammed into basically funding a military regime. Or maybe something less likely can explain it? Maybe the single donor stuff was the scam and the money was just largely used for some hidden projects no one knows about? It's impossible to say. This is too new. And they just don't keep track of the money anyhow so no one knows.
Just because someone looks sleazy in a documentary doesn't mean that person is evil. And just because something looks and smells like a scam with Canadian and Kenyan state support doesn't mean it's a scam. I can't say what it is. I obviously wouldn't give my money to a charity who is this dysfunctional. But most charities work the same way. Much of the money will go to very few powerful people in Kenya and the charity leaders. It's just how this stuff works. We Charity was just unlucky enough that people looked into the Trudeau connections and the Kenya scams. But you can do this with most Africa charities and they will look just as corrupt. This story is told a million times a decade.
