- When Murdoch discovers that a victim has been 'cooked,' he enlists the aid of Nikola Tesla in tracking down a weaponized early version of a microwave.
- Detective Murdoch investigates the death by electrocution of Morris Garbutt, a former research associate of the famous Nikola Tesla. Tesla has been experimenting with a new form of energy that is transmitted through the air, called microwaves. The evidence points to James Pendrick, but he is in jail. Murdoch soon realizes he has been a fool, about many things, and sets his sights on the perpetrator of this and several other crimes. Dr. Ogden tells Murdoch she is seriously considering an offer to be the head of pediatric surgery at a new hospital in Buffalo. Murdoch is somewhat taken aback and is convinced there is something else that is driving her away.—garykmcd
- William eagerly collaborates with famous inventor Nikola Tesla, as technical consultant, when Morris Garbutt, one of Tesla's former research collaborators, is found cooked from the inside by electrocution, a frightening 'side effect' of Nikola's invention, microwaves, which he refused to develop into a possible weapon. Canadian secret service agent Terrence Meyers calls the lead in the case, obviously relevant to national security, believing a foreign power is about to buy it, but needs to rely in their technical and general detective skills. All evidence points to Tesla's other former assistant and especially recently arrested tycoon James Pendrick, on death row, except he has no motive, and maintains his innocence after escaping and holding William at gunpoint. Murdoch realizes James's wife and heiress ticks all boxes, and uses his blueprints to have Tesla build a defensive contraption for the prototype weapon, which he pinpoints by triangulation when fired as demo test. This leaves William no time to deal with Julia's plan to leave Toronto for a Buffalo hospital job, just now he bought a ring to propose, feeling her post-abortive infertility is incompatible with his child wish, even after he assures her love is enough, adoption an valid alternative.—KGF Vissers
