Full marks to the marketing team behind Chris Columbus' upcoming feature length expansion of Patrick Jean's short film Pixels. They clearly know exactly what they've got in the retro video game themed story and are putting the focus on its 8-bit stars rather than those of the human variety (Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad and Brian Cox are the flesh and blood types in it) with a series of stellar teaser posters. Check those out in the gallery below along with the original short film....

It’s been a while since we last caught wind of Pixels, Chris Columbus’ bold adaptation that pits Adam Sandler and Co. against a group on oncoming aliens, but today, we’ve been treated to a trio of otherworldly stills that showcase a very familiar looking extraterrestrial threat.
The images, which you can feast your eyes on in the gallery below, depict the likes of Pac-Man and Space Invaders wreaking havoc on some of the world’s most famous landmarks. And so, with planet earth hanging in the balance, the world turns to Sandler’s Sam Brenner — a former video game champion who is now living out the rest of his days as a home theater installer. All that changes overnight, though, when Brenner must band together the finest thumbs in the business — namely Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad’s characters — to overcome the galactic threat.

From low-budget dystopias to grungy horror, here are 12 shorts that became films such as Evil Dead, Twelve Monkeys and The Babadook.
The best story ideas are often the simple and pure ones. It's little wonder, then, that so many filmmakers and storytellers start by making short films - after all, if you can tell a good story in just a few minutes, you might be talented enough to make a feature.
Cinema history is full of stories about young filmmakers getting their start by making low-budget shorts. James Cameron famously made Xenogenesis, a sci-fi short which contained lots of things that would appear in his later feature films: a giant robot with big tank tracks, a cyborg, and a heroine at the helm of a hard-hitting mecha.
The short films below vary wildly, from two-minute chillers to 30-minute post-apocalyptic science fiction, but each of them are watchable for their own reasons,...

With its release positioned just two weeks after Avengers: Age of Ultron, you can see why everyone’s getting excited about Chris Columbus’ upcoming blockbuster, Pixels.
Sony isn’t going to risk putting something people won’t want to turn out to see opposite Age of Ultron’s third and fourth frames. It’s already pegged to be the best thing we’ve seen Adam Sandler do in some time, which is a great prospect enough as it is.
In the past few days, the studio’s been teasing a couple of first looks at the film, and now they’ve launched a new promo ahead of its appearance at Comic-Con, inviting conventiongoers the chance to win a role in the movie.

Sony's upcoming Adam Sandler comedy "Pixels" seems tailor-made for Comic Con, and a new promotional video is a must-see for Peter Dinklage fans. "Pixels" finds middle-aged competitive games -- played by Sandler, Dinklage and Josh Gad -- facing an alien invasion inspired by classic arcade games. In the below video, Dinklage ditches his "Game of Thrones" garments and sophisticated airs for some tattoos, a mullet and a sneer as he invites all the "Suckers" to come lose at the Electric Dreams Arcade. Watch it here: Directed by Chris Columbus (the first two "Harry Potter" films) and inspired by the 2010 short by Patrick Jean, "Pixels" also stars Kevin James, Josh Gad, Michelle Monaghan, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson and Jane Krakowski. If you're in San Diego, "Pixels" has set up a video arcade at the Hard Rock Hotel "Pixels" opens May 15, 2015.

Will Blended be remembered the nadir of comedian Adam Sandler’s film career? I certainly hope it will be, because I simply can’t imagine a worse film than that mess of offensive cliches (and yes, that includes Jack & Jill). Additionally, Sandler’s upcoming projects actually look – dare I say it – promising. He’s got The Cobbler from Win Win writer-director Thomas McCarthy and Jason Reitman’s Men, Women and Children both in the can, and now Sandler is getting down to business filming sci-fi adventure Pixels. Today, veteran character actor Brian Cox joined that last film, further raising my hopes for what already sounds like an interesting project.
Directed by Chris Columbus (who helmed the first two Harry Potter movies and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Pixels is a big-budget sci-fi action adventure which stars Sandler as a video game champion enlisted to fight off invading aliens.

Like the later levels on Space Invaders, things are moving ever quicker as Adam Sandler puts the pieces together for short film-based video game comedy sci-fi thriller Pixels. He’s just landed Game Of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage for a major role.Sandler, Josh Gad and Kevin James are already aboard for the story of what happens when aliens use iconic video game characters to wage war on the human race. Things look dark for humanity until the president (James) calls on his old friends (Sandler and Gad) to employ their gaming skills to stop the invaders.Dinklage, meanwhile, will seemingly be channelling The King Of Kong’s Billy Mitchell to play an arrogant, preening former Donkey Kong and Space Invaders champ. Chris Columbus is in the director’s chair for this one, working from Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling’s script, itself based on Patrick Jean’s short film. The...

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is joining Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Josh Gad in Chris Columbus’ Pixels. Scripted by Just Go With It scribe Tim Dowling, the film (based on Patrick Jean’s 2010 short) is being billed as a “Ghostbusters-esque actioner” that will see “a group of elite gamers” recruited to help protect New York City when video game characters from the 80s attack.
The goal here is to turn the film into an action-comedy tentpole for Sony, and with the way it’s shaping up, it sounds like it could very well be just that. The premise is certainly intriguing and has a lot of potential to be a really fun ride, I’m just a bit weary of the fact that Sandler, James and Dowling are on board. Their involvement leads me to believe that Pixels will fall under the “stupid humor” category, a la Grown Ups...

Right now comedian Josh Gad is on fire thanks to his scene-stealing turn as the adorable talking snowman Olaf in Disney's Oscar-nominated blockbuster Frozen. On the other hand, Kevin James is coming off Grown Ups 2, which is currently nominated for 8 Razzie Awards. Nonetheless both look to be coming together for roles in the next Adam Sandler venture, Pixels. THR reports Gad and James have entered into early talks for Pixels, a comedy inspired by a short film of the same name that made the rounds in 2010. As you might imagine, the answer is delightful mayhem. Sandler is serving as a producer on the project, while the short's creator Patrick Jean will executive produce. Kevin James is about to get his game on in the upcoming "Pixels." The comedy star is in talks to appear opposite "Frozen" co-star Josh Gad in the Sony comedy from director Chris Columbus ("Home Alone," the first two "Harry Potter" films), according to Deadline.
