Martin Lawrence and Will Smith play two Miami narcotics detectives, Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery, in the Bad Boys franchise. The first film in the franchise was made in 1995 when Smith was still the young star from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. However, Lawrence was a major star at the time and it will surprise many fans to learn that he commanded a higher paycheck than Smith.

In one of the best episodes of The Vince Staples Show – a dark Netflix comedy following the fictionalized life of the titular rapper – Vince slowly but surely leverages a bank robbery he’s caught in the crosshairs of to his advantage. Perhaps this quiet doggedness is autobiographical; in reality, Vince Staples has been actively trying to produce his own television show for about eight years, finally getting it over the line with its Feb. 15 premiere.

Chicago – The “Black List” of Hollywood means something totally different in the current vernacular. This list contains the un-produced screenplays of the highest quality, either optioned and not sold or in turnaround from an attempt to produce. One of those screenplays on the List was “Air Jordan” by Chicagoland native Alex Convery. Once eventual director Ben Affleck got involved, the finished film became “Air.”
“Air” features Affleck collaborator Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, a basketball guru who is essentially an evaluator for which college player will represent the Nike basketball shoe once they go pro. The year is 1984, and Nike is a sluggish 17th in the athletic shoe market, with Founder Phil Knight (Affleck) having cash flow issues with his newly public company and with just have enough money for one more roll of the dice … to get basketball phenom Michael Jordan to sign with the Nike basketball. Amidst the drama of Peacock’s reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, there’s one thing everyone can agree on: The fashion is on point. In fact, when TV Insider asked the Bel-Air cast to name the best-dressed character on the show, while one name did keep coming up, more than one person acknowledged it was a tough question. “Queensylvia [Akuchie] is the most amazing costume designer,” Cassandra Freeman (who plays Vivian Banks) raved. “I think some of my costumes are incredible, but then I watch the show … it’s a tie for me.” Adrian Holmes (who plays Philip Banks) echoed her praise for their designer. “Everybody’s really fitted, especially this season. We’ve elevated the wardrobe,” he said. Jimmy Akingbola had no issues answering the question, naming his own character, Geoffrey. “Honestly, I’m in tears of joy every time I walk into the costume room,” he shared.

Here’s a screenwriting prompt not too many would-be writers get to toy with: What’s it like when you get the call that Ben Affleck wants to direct and star in your film?
For “Air” screenwriter Alex Convery, it was thrilling — but he also approached it with some hard-earned skepticism. While the Michael Jordan-centric drama “Air” marks Convery’s first produced feature, he’s long been a rising star in Hollywood, with three of his original screenplays earning spots on the Black List over the years. He’s been down this road before, but this time, it finally panned out.
“From time to time you hear, ‘This big actor read the script, they’re interested, they want to do it,’ and when I was first breaking in, it was like, ‘Holy shit, I made it!’ Then you learn the way Hollywood works, [which is] you never hear that they’re not doing it,...

“Bel-Air” has been renewed for a third season at Peacock, the streamer announced on Friday.
The series launched in February 2022 as the streamer’s most-watched original premiere, and remains Peacock’s most-watched original series to date.

Michael Jordan is not only arguably the biggest name in the history of basketball, but one of the biggest names in sportswear, as well. Have you ever stopped to wonder why that is? Ben Affleck and Matt Damon certainly have, as they teamed up with Amazon Studios to bring us "Air," which premiered its first trailer during Super Bowl Lvii. The trailer gives us our first look at the film's ensemble, including Damon's portrayal of Nike salesman Sonny Vaccaro and Affleck's version of Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
"Air," which Affleck also directed was listed as one of the best unsigned scripts in Hollywood on 2021's Black List. Its script, written by Alex Convery, was picked up by Amazon Studios in 2022. However, it was originally called "Air Jordan," and the reasoning behind the title change and the distinct lack of Jordan's likeness in the film has not been confirmed. Regardless, it's...

Somewhere in the multiverse, there's a reality where Ben Affleck directed and starred in "The Batman," resulting in a very different David Fincher-styled take on the Caped Crusader than the one Matt Reeves gave us in 2022. Instead, the true story basketball industry drama "Air" will serve as Affleck's long-awaited return to the director's chair and the followup to his 2016 period gangster flick, "Live By Night." Despite being generally considered Affleck's first real misfire behind the camera (though he still has fond feelings about it), that movie's not enough on its own to make you forget about his gripping direction on "Gone Baby Gone" or the propulsive thrills he delivered with "The Town" and "Argo" (even with the way the latter bends the facts of the actual historical events that inspired it and resorts to stereotypes in its depiction of the Middle East).
Thankfully, "Air" finds Affleck operating more in...
