A new low for Alec Baldwin
imseeg10 June 2023
I was hopeful at the start, because I was really into an action packed disaster movie, but from the very start I expected troubles ahead...

The bad: this movie is cheaply made and one can tell, Everything from the leading credits, to the sound, to the photography, all these technical aspects are way below average. It's quite cringeworthy to watch these cheap special effects, it's as if we are watching a seventies disaster movie, with lots of ridiculous fake effects.

More bad: what's even worse though is that the many supporting actors unintentionally are becoming a laughing stock, by the really terrible, yet funny way they (try) to act.

And as the final blow this movie simply never ever achieves to thrill for one mere second.

Not any good then? It's absolutely a new low for Alec Baldwin, who is starring in this disastrous flick. Although I must admit his performance was still kinda convincing, because he is still a good actor, running on lower ground though...

93 Minutes of my life I'll never get back
Top_Dawg_Critic15 June 2023
This film barely even qualifies as a B film, more like a C film. A high school drama class can come up with a better movie. The writing had plot holes, inconsistencies and technical issues, as clearly no research went into any elements of this film - from flying/landing a plane, cabin pressure, mid-air debris explosions, security, etc. Even the dialogue was infantile dramatics and boring nonsense filler for the most part. Writer, producer and actor in this film Pavan Grover apparently is a doctor in real life, yet in the film when the pilot gets shot, his medical training inclination was to put a red tube in one nostril (hardly any first aid kit in the world would have this apparatus in it) and patch him up, so I question his skills as a doctor to be about as good as his writing, which clearly is terrible. The directing was just as bad, and the fight scenes were the worst and laughable choreography I have ever seen. The CGI, especially the flashback bombing explosion was laughable.

eh. nothing special
kelubiapuppies11 June 2023
Pretty mediocre / bad movie in my opinion. It just throws you into it. No build up or anything. Alot of the events that happen doesnt even make sense, a watcher would question it and things are just rushed in. You dont get a feel for any of the characters so you wouldnt really care much about what happens to them really. The government immediately goes to drastic measures as soon as something went wrong?? In all its basic movie everythings really predictable so don expect much

But i can give props to the twist near the end tho.

And lastly the fact that the movie is called "97 Minutes" but it's only 93 minutes long is a bad sign lmao.

Not even worth watching 5 minutes of
darklordgrievousvfs11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie made no sense at all! For starters, we are thrown into it with zero build up. No proper character introduction or explanation.

Second, it was hilarious that the terrorists suspected/knew the one guy was a traitor. "One thing goes wrong? We have a traitor!" Why do you suspect him? Why do you think there's a traitor? Never explained.

Also, I found it appalling how INSTANTLY they wanted to shoot down a passenger plane full of people. Really, that was their first option? And then they end up shooting down a completely random, innocent plane.

This movie had potential, the concept is great. The execution was terrible and left me very disappointed.

1 way flight into the garbage bin
kuner-5902912 June 2023
Another low budget direct to streaming fake action thriller with a washed up former star (Baldwin) appearing for a glorified cameo, and a no name lead doing his best to carry a film weighed down by an abysmal script and amateur direction.

There hasn't been a plane thriller for a while now. The genre had its heyday in the late 90s with Passenger 57, Executive Decision, Con Air, Air Force One, Turbulence and finally had a small revival with Red Eye, Flightplan and Snakes on a Plane. If you enjoyed those, don't get your hopes up. This is bottom of the barrel junk, murkily lit to hide the budget limitations, badly paced and with plot holes big enough to fly a 747 through.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers must be in dire need of cash. This is the second low budget junk movie with him released in a month. He's not the worst actor out there, but I'm not sure he can carry a film. At least not one of this quality, but then again who could.

Alec Baldwin... well we know why he'll take any paycheck he can get now. I think the graphic artist doesn't like him very much. They wisely changed the poster for IMDB, but google the main cover the film, and you will see a hilariously bad photoshop of Baldwin that looks like some grade school kid just figured out the skin smoothing effect on photoshop for the first time. Normally his agent (if he still has one) should have cought that before it went public. But as with most of these direct to streaming movies, no one gives a damn about anything.

If you value your time at all, you'll find a better film to watch.

It kept getting worse...
taxnxgmii11 June 2023
Short and to the point: there was so much potential that it is baffling how this movie turned out the way it did. Everything you have seen about plane movies is here, just used in the most un-creative way possible. It is a complete mess. Feels like a first year film school project. The fighting sequences look as if they were rehearsing, the plot predictable and full of cliches, even the VFX is so clean that it looks fake. It will leave you wondering about many things; especially how this mess was green lit to be made and then to be released. Frankly, Snakes on a Plane was better than this and you know how bad that was. Steer clear of this bomb of a movie.

As Daft as it Gets...
Xstal9 June 2023
If you could concoct a film that denied you all facts, that could relay a story in disjointed acts, where the edits and acting were cobbled and crude, where the outcomes can't be more distorted and skewed; then sit down, buckle up, as you're in for a ride, watch a plane that's been crippled, without effort just glide, listen in behind doors that can catch all you whisper, it's not long that you think they've all had a good snifter (the writers must have been three sheets at least); be afraid for the money that's been spent of defences, as tugging on wires can outfox all their senses (sight unseen!), be afraid, really worry, you might raise a red flag, if you meet terrorists, with a magical bag, out of which they can conjure an old Russian bomb, and deploy it like they're, in your favourite sitcom.

absolute waste of time
sybernetics11 June 2023
Seemed like a high school project. Not worth the time. Bad acting matched with low quality CGI. Its disappointing to see Hollywood heavy hitter Alec Baldwin participating in such low quality production. What I don't understand is why so many people would try and be a part of something that requires so much time and logistics to put together but put so less effort on making it work. Sad thing is I probably put more effort into writing this review than the producers put into making this film. Also, it would be nice if they didn't put fake ratings on movies like these to trick people into watching them.

Absolutely Watchable but don't expect Con Air or Air Force One
adua-rocca-989-97757911 September 2023
Don't quite understand all these negative reviews. 97 Minutes is a 7 million dollars budget movie, so the comparison with Con Air, Executive Decision or Air Force One doesn't make any sense. To be honest my expectation was low and, in the end, I ended up being entertained. Certainly we're not talking about a masterpiece, but with all the garbage around, this one looked really fine to me. There is tension, there is a cast with good names attached and there are few twist in the plot that makes the end quite unpredictable and original. It's probably the best piece of action Rhys-Meyers did after "From Paris with Love".

Poor man's plane adventure!
cynet-5233210 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Want to see poor CGI in a movie? Want see a movie where a man killed by a stewardess trolley? Want to see a move full off over acting? Well 97 min is the film no one wanted or asked for. Imagine another movie filled with terrorists hyjacking a plane so that they can all die on leaving just one man who turns out to be the only actor in the movie who can act. This movie is on a B level in terms of budget as well as actors including Alec Baldwin who can only attract these kind of movies due to his previous movie actions. Overall it's just a movie you have seen before but done much better in terms of quality. My advice is don't bother it sucks!

Great action and suspence movie
kkup-0621510 July 2023
Granted I am not a professional movie critic. I thought the movie was well done. The plane was not a cheap set just thrown together to make a movie. The actors Pavan Grover and Alec Baldwin did a great job for their parts. The fight s were good. Pavan Grover was a great terrorist. The movie kept my wife and I on the edge of our seats. The actors were well dressed for the parts. The passengers on the plane fit the part all the way. The equipment/ props were well done and looked real all the way The ending was a real shocker I did not see coming. I can not wait to see the next one that come out.

Mediocre at best...
frank-liesenborgs10 June 2023
"97 Minutes" falls short of expectations, lacking a certain element that would have elevated it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers delivers a solid performance as Alex, and Alec Baldwin makes a fitting return in a well-suited role. The hijacking of a plane and the tension surrounding the possibility of it being shot down by fighter jets adds some suspense to the story. However, despite a slight twist towards the end, the overall outcome becomes predictable. While there are certainly worse movies out there, if you have other options, it might be worth considering those instead. If you find yourself with spare time, you can give it a watch, but it may not leave a lasting impression. A 6/10 is the maximum rating to my opinon.

UNbelievable
fredsbond10 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Unbelievable!

I'm not an airline pilot, but I am a commercial pilot, so I know something about these things. Here is a brief list of hilarious errors that I didn't see mentioned elsewhere.

SPIOLER ALERT

Opening scene, airliner in flight is 1,100 miles from US coast with 97 minutes of fuel. Uh, that's not going to work. At its max cruising speed of almost 500 knots, the fuel will run out at 800 nautical miles, which is 920 statute (or Hollywood) miles. Ain't going to make it anyway. Also, you are required to have reserves beyond expected time.

When the cabin pressure changes due to a bad-guy bullet hole somewhere (with the requisite falling masks fiasco) , it would reduce the cabin pressure, not increase it as they show.

The Raptors are intercepting the NYC-bound flight while they are 6 miles from some place in PA. Uh, what took them so long, how did our airliner make it to PA instead of NYC, and once caught, why are afterburners needed to keep pace with an airliner?

One night shot shows the airliner proceeding westbound, but with the moon to the north of it. Nope.

The "Heavy from Atlanta airspace" airliner nearly hits our airliner. Looking at the FAA map of ATC Centers, it would have had to fly through Washington, Boston, and NY Centers to get there - a long way from Atlanta.

After the passenger revolt, everyone is silent. If it were me, I'd be getting a beer from the liquor cart and giving a few Hoo-Ya's!

Baldwin directs the airliner to "Runway 2882". There is no such place. Runways are designated by just two digits, corresponding to the first two numbers of their magnetic heading, e.g. Runway-28 is aligned with 280 degrees. I think Alex's compass is wound up too tight! (Or maybe it's Rusty.) (Sorry; too soon?)

That mythical runway is "10 miles due south" but they "don't have enough fuel to make it". Must be the plane turned into a large rock. From 30,000 feet, the airliner should be able to glide about 60 miles.

Then the starboard engine runs out of fuel. Because this is Hollywood, that means that it must of course immediately catch fire, burning, uh...

At touchdown, we see a wonderful head-on shot of the plane landing. But in addition to there no longer being fires from the engine or tail, the 767 has miraculously turned into a Boeing 737.

The final plot twist involving the "good guy" is unbelievable. Plus, he neglects to instruct the heroine how to use the brakes, so it's fortunate that the 230,000 pound aircraft decides to coast to a stop on this little emergency airstrip without any of the theatrics that normally occur, even on big airports.

This movie - what a hoot!

Made with a donation from the actors
frankasi14 June 2023
My god, avoid at all cost, cause if not it could provoke a heart attack.

I am sure if there was a go found me to be able to produce this film, Alec Baldwin most have been the biggest donor of the funds, otherwise this couldn't be released at all.

I mean, this is the baddest film of this year so far. Poor sound, bad script, scholars acting. The bad guys portrait as simple and bad as possible. The pilot's son is like a cartoon implant. The Doctor as many of the other characters are kind of extracted from a bad theatrical representation.

And I thought The Mother and Fast X were the baddest films this year. But this one surpass them by far.

Just Horrible!
michael-manolis13 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A complete waste of time! I actually watched the whole movie to see if it could get worse and it didn't dissapoint - it got worse and worse. Acting was horrible as was the script & special effects to the point where we couldn't help but laugh. The fight scenes were so bad and look like they were the rehearsals - not the final edit! The basic plot was that a man was driven to seek revenge for the death of his son by the NSA and so he hijacks a plane and wants to crash it on US soil- but near the end he decides not to go through with his plan but to instead to save everyone on the plane with no logical reason given why???

Waste of time
ataofaichi10 June 2023
Complete waste of time with bad script, bad characters and bad execution. Feel sorry fol Bladwin and Rhyes for their downfall in such bad movies. Not to mention physics, reality and acting. Not even twist at the end can save movie.

I managed to restart watching twice just to see how bad it will end and actualy ends even worse. Even Snakes on plane and some Sharknado movies make more sense. OK, there's some action inserts but nevertheless it's wouldn't change anything in plot even without them.

I give moive 2 stars just because it is too bad to have 1 star. It's nice from time to time to watch such bad movies just to remember, how bad they can.

Could have been worse...
benjaminarmour11 June 2023
At least nobody was murdered due to an obvious lack of adherence to the basic tenets of firearms safety which all sane/adult/mentally capable ppl should be inherently responsible for endeavoring to observe/implement as soon as they pick up a firearm. So there's that at least.

Other than that this is 97 minutes (or however long this film is lol) of your time thoroughly squandered. Just go watch Plane with Gerard Butler and Mike Colter again instead. Even Danielle Pineda wasn't insufferable (unlike her bad takes regarding the character of Faye Valentine in the much maligned Cowboy Bebop Netflix show that was unceremoniously cancelled after the first horribly cringe season)

97minutes? 297minutes more like!
specialbobby13 June 2023
Funny how this films runtime is shorter than 97minutes including credits yet moves so slow it would just fall out if the sky.

What is this movie, and if this was filmed before Baldwins issues, who does he owe? Not even Nicolas Cage would take on something this cheap for a quick buck, it's just trash filmed in an aeroplane hanger. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is certainly suffering for his sins having to take this type of low budget lead, and it's clear he's only doing it 'for the cash', it's all anyone's doing. If there was a casting director they surely need to be blacklisted, their choices were appalling.

Generic everything, poor effects, stupid twists, and the worse most intrusive score I've heard in a long time. It's a slog at 93minutes.

Don't board this one.

Outstanding
jjtm-0243810 July 2023
97 minutes will have you on the edge of your seat. The action this movie brings to the audience will have you questioning everyone on the plane. Who is good and who is bad. Can you figure it out? Just when you think you have, you may need to think again. This movie was well worth the wait and you will get to see if your predictions are right.....or wrong. This movie starts out with a calmness but quickly intensifies and that is when you have to be a detective in your mind to figure out which passengers on the plane are for the greater good or if they are there to do something unthinkable all within 97 minutes.

Some of the dialogue is really dumb.
trinaboice3 November 2023
IN A NUTSHELL: The director is Timo Vuorensola. Writing credits go to Pavan Grover.

The movie is about a hijacked plane that will crash in only 97 minutes when its fuel runs out. Against the strong will of NSA Deputy Toyin, NSA Director Hawkins prepares to have the plane shot down before it does any catastrophic damage on the ground, leaving the fate of the innocent passengers on the plane in the hands of Alex, an undercover Interpol agent who has been embedded in the terrorist cell.

THINGS I LIKED: I've mentioned before that I'm a fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers and feel bad for him that he just can't book the big Hollywood blockbuster movies. I loved him in the popular TV series "The Tutors", but ever since then, he's been pumping out only B movies.

I've always gotten a kick out of Alec Baldwin. This movie sure was an easy paycheck for him.

Other cast members include MyAnna Buring, Jo Martin, Michael Sirow, Pavan Grover, Anjul Nigam, Slavko Sobin, Danny Bohnen, and more.

The director used some really cool camera shots. It had to have been tricky to film in such tight quarters as an airplane cabin.

There's an interesting conversation between two characters about Shakespeare's Hamlet that helps us understand a character's motivation.

This kind of movie always makes me wonder what I would do in that situation.

There's a fun twist at the end. I figured there would be one but it was different than what I thought it would be!

Like every movie made nowadays, the heroes are mostly women.

I liked the song at the end of the movie by Livingston.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: One of the problems is that we only get to know one of the characters, so it's a hard sell to want us to care about most of the people on the plane.

Some of the dialogue is really dumb.

Who shoots a gun on an airplane? That's insane because it could cause the plane to immediately crash.

The ending "change of heart" was absolutely ridiculous.

There are some filters used on several shots that made the film look hokey.

Due to the title, I thought there would be more shots of clocks, timers, and other count-down moments.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: Some profanity, including F-bombs Lots of blood and splatter Many people get shot and often die brutal, bloody deaths.

Violence with various weapons, as well as hand-to-hand combat.

Keep an open mind, this movie was fun!! 1 star reviews unwarranted!
codyjamesmiller22 November 2023
I'm not sure why all the one stars. The film was fun and kept you on the edge of your seat. Too many people put on their "it's not realistic enough" goggles and chalk it up as not good. This is definitely not the case. I think it was actually really good considering it was a b movie. Not a 10 but an easy 7.5. (Have a 10 to offset one star reviews) There are twists, turns, a pretty good storyline and plenty of excitement, action, etc. I was also impressed with the cgi mixed with the real airplane shots. It did not feel cheesy to my wife and I. Keep an open mind while watching this flick. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how much fun it is and you too may actually enjoy it.

VIEWS ON FILM review of 97 Minutes
burlesonjesse519 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In 2023's 97 Minutes, the title refers to the amount of time a 767 plane has before it runs out of fuel. How random. But hey, that's just scratching the surface because there's much more to "97's" ode to unlawful seizes, much much more.

97 Minutes is a hijack movie, an air disaster flick, a suicide mission vehicle complete with all the trimmings (that includes sneering terrorists, faulty operating limitations, and nuclear bombs in the belly). Co-starring the resurrected Alec Baldwin and Jo Martin, the film obviously looks like it was made on a restricted budget, shooting most of its scenes on two set locations (one of which probably wasn't even an actual plane). No matter, I dug "97". Why? Because despite its slight improbability and early on, muted character developments, the thing has brains (and some brawn). I mean somewhere Capt. Joe Patroni is well, smiling, gleefully.

Earning most of its hour and a half runtime with raveled plot workings and twist and turns that resemble any actual, disastrous 767 at mid-flight, 97 Minutes is its own entity, not trying to be commercialized like Air Force One or arty like United 93 (not that those films were bad cause they weren't). "97" is well, the thinking man's flying bird thriller, only exhibiting brute force when it has to and telling its story from an impassioned, Cold War-like point of view.

"97's" strongest asset has to be star Jonathan Rhys Meyers, an actor who has an uncanny way of carrying a close-packed pic with searing screen presence and a raw, physical dedication to his role. Meyers plays Alex, an undercover Interpol agent whose antihero vibes and two-faced lures give the audience member the feeling of being held in a cinematic vice grip. He basically helps 97 Minutes "soar" even higher (pun intended).

97 minutes of waste
kumar_delish13 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If u need to waste your time watching the movie go for it.

Action Boring Acting boring Plot boring

Hijacking is the main plot of the movie using 3D printing of toy gun use as real gun Why are they using toy model guys if one guy carried a real gun why not others.

They can easily place a nuke on a plane but they can't get real guns inside the plane there is no logic on that.

Bring down the hijacked plane using raptor F22 but finally they bring down the other passengers plane no one what happens to them silly loss of innocent lives.

At last Fight between Jonathan and another guy that looks like real action skills even the kid can understand they are playing.

Finally the villain aka hero changes the mind and saves the world and safely lands.

Guys if u really want to waste the time go for it i strongly suggest you do not do anything by not watching this film to waste time.

Baldwin has death spiraled...
warrenbell-8271319 June 2023
I will sleep better tonight, knowing the murderer Alec Baldwin has reached rock bottom in his career. To call this movie a total waste of time is being too kind. The only positive is Baldwin did not kill anyone during the making of this movie.

Apparently, they would not even let him near a water pistol during filming.

The plot is perfect for him - pure nonsense. I can't wait to see his next flop. Gotta love karma, shooter...

I heard that the cast and crew wore bulletproof vests during the production. The catch phrase during filming was: " guns don't kill people- Baldwin kills people."

His next movie is with Armie Hammer and Lori Laughlin - it's called Damaged Goods.

Excruciating Cringefest
benzed18 November 2023
I sat through the first 30 mins in disbelief. I can't imagine how any frame of this movie wasn't clipped out leaving nothing.

Every aspect had me shaking my head. The acting was over the top or monotonous or both. I guess they were making it up as they went along because this sermed to be lacking a director.

The dialogue wasn't inaudible or incomprehensible, was preposterous.

There clearly was no casting director, I assume the rolls were filled on a first come first served basis. Every character had similar traits and attitudes. Reality was not part of this production. It felt like they knew this was a trainwreck and did the least amount of work to rush and get it over with.

Ten minutes into the film I was checking the counter. Honestly, I stopped at the halfway mark and have zero motivation to see what happens. Really Sad.
