Banned episode - deleted forever?
JurijFedorov1 October 2020
I just had to watch this as the studio banned it from the TV show so that it now is not part of the TV series. It happens more and more today and this is just one more episode you'll not be able to watch anywhere from now on unless you own it on DVD. The TV shows are watched via streaming today so studios can now deleted scenes or full episodes whenever they like and the original TV shows are not really timeless anymore. They change with the times.

It's actually a really good episode. The over the top unrealistic racism makes it a fun watch but there is much more to it. The lyrics to the first song are spectacular. It's so well-writen that it could have been an internet meme but I assume it would be deleted from most social media online because of the word use. The other songs are fun too but a bit repetitive and not nearly the same level.

The plot itself is also really strong. Which is actually surprising as the episode is 20 minutes long. But yet they achieve to string it all together into a beginning, middle and end like a proper movie. This reveals very high level writing. I do wish there was more to the story and maybe a bigger plot with some greater consequences but the length just doesn't allow for it. The "romance" plot is also pretty cringe at most times. It does the basic well but it feels like a movie trope made into a full episode which is too much. It doesn't ruin the episode but it does mean that the episode has a great message and ending but maybe takes a few too many silly steps to get there.

The voice acting is amazing too. All characters are voiced perfectly. Not one single wooded actor or boring voice.

Basically, if you can track it down I suggest you watch it. Even just for the first song alone which is a true banger. But the overall message and the amazing Jimmy Rebel character is great too.

If you loved any other episode of The Boondocks...

This episode is no exception. It is literally taking the music of Johnny Rebel and showing his music to the world or the Boondocks. Naturally, Uncle Ruckus is a lifelong fan of Mr. Rebel as they hold the same point of views. However, I believe since Jimmy Rebel is based on a real person they felt the audience may be brainwashed by his existence. Unfortunately mr Rebel plays a huge role in todays racial conversation, so the exclusion of his episode makes it seem a bit totalitarian, even if it was drawn, written, and produce by a black man known as Aaron McGruder, lol. It is sad cause as someone who is familiar with Rebel's work I can tell Aaron was also familiar with his work as it is heavily implied in the episode. Too bad his creative genius is being shaded upon by rich coorperate entities who believe this episode is revealing to their personal nature.

Bring this episode back.
