SyFy continues their own series of fairy tale's with horrific twists as they're gearing up for Mario Azzopardi's own version of "Hansel and Gretel," Gretl, which will star Shannen Doherty ("90210") in the title role. Paul McGillion (Star Trek, "The X-Files") has been cast as Hansel. "As an adult, a witch hunter (Hansel) returns to the village where he lived as a child to find and kill the witch who killed his sister, Gretl (Doherty), only to find that Gretl is not dead and danger lurks around every corner." John Boylan, Sarain Boylan and Jefferson Brown, round out the cast with Erica Cox, Marianthi Evans, Sophia Ewaniuk, Nahanni Johnstone, and Daniela Lazzaro. SyFy will air this coming November.

Oh, how I want to love this. I mean, how could you not? Felicia Day, who is lovely and funny and a geek queen, starring in a movie about a family of werewolves? What's not to love? And it's showing on SyFy, who brought us "Battlestar Galactica" and "Eureka!" Plus, it's written by Brook Durham, who wrote... um... Witchslayer and Merlin and the Book of Beasts. And... uh... it's directed by Sheldon Wilson, who also did... Carny and... Screamers: The Hunting. And...
Shit.
This is gonna be a wreck, isn't it.
Yeah, that doesn't look so good. Not terrible werewolf effects, I'll give it that, but still... not exactly inspiring. Look, I love SyFy movies. I'm not being ironic -- I genuinely enjoy them, and have seen -- literally -- almost all of them. Yes, they're terrible, stupid, atrociously acted and feature hideous special effects. That's what's so glorious about them.
