The Calutron Girls were a group of women recruited to operate a uranium refinement facility in Oakridge Tennessee during World War Two. What they were doing was unknown to them. They monitored gauges and adjusted dials according to their instructions. They did it very well, out performing PhD recruits who had a tendency to tinker.—David Foss
