Veteran director Kat Coiro is in talks to join Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney Plus series “She-Hulk” as lead director and executive producer, Variety has confirmed. She will direct the pilot and other episodes of the series, joining showrunner Jessica Gao (“Rick and Morty”).
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige first announced “She-Hulk” last year during the D23 fan expo in Anaheim, Calif., part of a robust suite of series the studio is producing for Disney’s streaming service. “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” “Loki,” and the animated series “What If…?” are already in various stages of production — the former three delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Along with “She-Hulk,” Marvel Studios is also developing “Hawkeye,” “Ms. Marvel,” and “Moon Knight” for Disney Plus.

Scott Eastwood may be the romantic lead of Nicholas Sparks's upcoming film The Longest Ride, but don't call him a sex symbol. "I don't know what that means. That's silly," he tells People. "Honestly, I grew up in California. I'm just one of the guys. And there are so many good-looking guys in California!" What's serious is Eastwood's appeal as a bull-riding cowboy in the film, which parallels the lives of two couples - one in present day, the other in the World War II era. The 28-year-old was drawn to the role because "he wasn't just a guy...

Most of us expect wild things to happen on our twenty-first birthdays. Typically, you figure it’s going to be something involving a record quantity of alcohol, a whole bunch of your friends, and, quite possibly, years worth of stories that you don’t actually remember occurring.
Axl Johnson assumed his twenty-first birthday would happen exactly along those lines. He lives in a house with a couple of his friends and he’s not far from his older brother Mike. He thinks his birthday will follow a fairly typical progression, until his brothers insist that he go out into the woods with them for a special birthday ceremony. Axl has no idea what’s in store for him.
His brothers proceed to inform him that they’re incarnations of Norse Gods. Mike is the God of Games, Ullr. Anders is Bragi, God of Poetry. Ty is Hodr. Then there’s Cousin Olaf,...

Over six and a half years, 21-year-old Rebecca Brown snapped 2,100 selfies, combining all of them into one fascinating time-lapse video. The UK-based student started the project back in 2007 when she was 14 years old, and she plans to continue "for as long as [she] can." In the video, Rebecca's style and features shift and mature, and she added powerful captions to certain frames to address what she was going through at the time. She candidly addressed her struggles with depression and trichotillomania, a hair-loss condition, and in a written Q&A, she notes, "Where does the smile go? Life happens, depression hit rather hard. I'm on the mend." Watch her compelling video above.

It's so hard to say good-bye to yesterday, and to those traveling pants that kept four friends in touch over the long summer breaks. "Sisterhood Everlasting" will be the third and final movie in the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series, based on the novels by Ann Brashares.
The movie takes place 10 years since the last time we checked in with Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget, and the gals are all grown up and almost 30. Not even pants have been able to keep them close, and not just because butt sizes wax and wane over the years. Life happens, babies happen, careers happen, and drama happens. In "Everlasting," Tibby invites everyone on a trip that's sure to give viewers "all the feels," as they say.
The first two movies starred Amber Tamblyn as Tibby, Alexis Bledel as Lena, America Ferrera as Carmen, and Blake Lively as Bridget. There's currently no...

Having spent just over a decade in front of the camera, Justin Long makes his feature debut as a screenwriter this year with A Case of You, a romantic comedy in which he stars in the lead opposite Evan Rachel Wood.
The film debuted back in the spring at the Tribeca Film Festival, and now IFC has launched the first trailer over on Yahoo Movies, along with the first poster through EW.
A young writer (Justin Long) woos a cute and quirky barista (Evan Rachel Wood) by creating an embellished online profile. When she falls for his alter ego, he must keep up the act or lose his dream girl. Directed by Tff alumna Kat Coiro and featuring a cast of hilarious cameo performers, including Peter Dinklage, Brendan Fraser, Sam Rockwell, Vince Vaughn and Sienna Miller, A Case of You is a winning romantic comedy for the social media age.

At first I thought to myself, Here it comes, the negative hit pieces against 12 Years a Slave are already underway, as I started reading Michael Cieply's New York Times piece examining the historical veracity of Solomon Northup's 160-year-old story of how he was abducted as a free man and forced into slavery. The film clearly has the ear of Oscar at this point and is dominating awards chatter out of Toronto as we await the release of the next wave of Oscar hopefuls. After reading the story, it doesn't have the earmarks of a hit piece, instead an interesting look at a story historians have long pondered and thought the literal truth. As with all films based on supposedly true stories we expect a certain measure of dramatic license and in the case of Lee Daniels' The Butler earlier this year, perhaps a lot of dramatic license. Screenwriter...

A delicate meditation on life, death, love and time, And While We Were Here caught me completely by surprise, in all the best ways. Directed by Kat Coiro (Life Happens), this relationship drama, set on the picturesque Italian island of Ischia, has some big questions on its mind but somehow remains nothing less than feather-light. And though I usually balk at slow-burn films, And While We Were Here swiftly won me over with its stunning backdrop, deeply affecting performances, and intriguing philosophical bent.
Kate Bosworth gives the best performance of her career as Jane, a depressed tourist trapped in a loveless marriage who spontaneously enters into an affair with a younger man she meets while wandering Ischia. In every scene, Bosworth commands the viewer’s attention with work more emotive and utterly mesmerizing than anything we’ve previously seen from her. Though And While We Were Here is too constrained...

Director: Noah Baumbach; Screenwriters: Noah Baumbach, Greta Gerwig; Starring: Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner, Adam Driver Running time: 86 mins; Certificate: 15
There's trouble in Bohemia, always a favourite setting for Noah Baumbach, the writer/director behind comedy dramas The Squid and the Whale and Greenberg. His real-life partner Greta Gerwig was the saviour of the latter film and she's the lynchpin of this one, too, co-writing as well as starring as a 27-year-old New Yorker trying to break into the world of dance.
No, this isn't another Flashdance rip-off, but Frances is guilty of chasing her dreams wholeheartedly, both in her professional and her personal life. Her friendship with Sophie (Mickey Sumner) always comes first, though. At least early on when Baumbach captures them play-fighting in Central Park, chilling at their apartment and dissecting each other's sex lives.
It's clear where Gerwig has contributed to the script and yet the conversations feel ad-libbed and littered with spirited,...

Tonight, January 18 at 8 p.m. Est on Fox, "Fringe" will reach its epic, sure-to-be heartbreaking finale. It's a two-hour, 100th episode culmination of an adventure that has spanned decades, shattered timelines and crossed universes in the space of five years, while still maintaining the unbreakable familial bond at its core.
While it may be painful to bid farewell to Peter (Joshua Jackson), Olivia (Anna Torv), Walter (John Noble), Astrid (Jasika Nicole), Broyles (Lance Reddick) and anyone else who might happen to reappear for the show's denouement, the finale stands as a testament to the passion of fans who have kept this smart, courageous series on the air for five seasons, and to Fox, for allowing the perennial bubble show to bow out gracefully instead of being snuffed out without a goodbye.

Click the link above to find out what our resident movie expert Richard Roeper thinks about the latest movies to hit the home video market, The Lucky One, Life Happens and Battleship. Though not a movie release, Roeper also offers up a glowing review of The Walking Dead: The Complete Second Season, which he describes as "a great show" that "isn't really a show about zombies" despite the zomb-pocalypse setting of the based-on-a-comic book AMC series.

Chicago – Is it possible to be addled in encroaching middle age? Because “Life Happens,” a film about an ex-party girl turned single mother, starring “it” girl Krysten Ritter, actually is quite funny, and gets those laughs simply by applying some simple truths to a unique situation. Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson, Justin Kirk and Kirsten Johnston co-star.

Ritter, who just opened this week as the title character in the awkwardly titled sitcom “Don’t Trust the B—— in Apartment 23,” carries this comedy on her shoulders, which she also co-wrote. She is an impressive scene stealer, but also allows the very strong supporting cast to get their moments. The script relies on some time honored stereotypes – twentysomething virgin, chirpy Mom, horny social misfit, dismissive boss – and turns them on their ear by leading them into unexpected directions. All of the actions of the films evolve from well-established background circumstances, and by...

There's a flood of new movies hitting theatres this weekend, but with The Hunger Games showing no sign of weakness, it's questionable whether any of them will be able to dethrone it. Perhaps the biggest challenger is The Farrelly Brothers' The Three Stooges, which could have some serious mainstream appeal but only if it manages to connect with younger audiences. A couple of genre flicks are also in the running including Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods and the sci-fi action flick Lockout starring Guy Pearce. The former has been getting fantastic reviews, the latter not so much. Also this weekend The Raid: Redemption is finally playing nationwide and The Weinsteins caved and released a PG-13 cut of Bully in over 100 theatres. Other movies in select theatres include Touchback starring Kurt Russell, Badass starring Danny Trejo, and the grunge documentary Hit So Hard featuring former Hole drummer Patty Schemel.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Titanic 3D Gary Ross / Jennifer Lawrence / Liam Hemsworth / Josh Hutcherson's The Hunger Games Passes $300m? Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg's American Reunion landed at no. 2 on the North American box office chart, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. At 3,192 locations, the R-rated comedy took in $21.5 million — including $660,000 earned at Thursday midnight screenings. That's quite a bit lower than the $25 million some had been expecting as late as Friday evening, or the near-$30 million predicted by Box Office Mojo a few days ago. If those estimates are correct, Universal will surely claim that American Reunion easily surpassed the $18.7 million earned by the original American Pie at 2,508 sites in 1999. In 2012 dollars, however, American Pie would have earned approximately $29 million. And what that means is: many more tickets were sold for American Pie than for American Reunion. Also, remember that American Reunion cost a...

Kate Winslet as Rose, Titanic 3D The Hunger Games will easily top the North American box for the third weekend in a row. Gary Ross' dystopic adventure tale collected $12.9 million on Friday, April 6, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. The film will likely earn somewhere between $35-$40 million over the Easter weekend. If so, it will be down around 30-35% compared to a week ago — or about half its 62% drop-off rate last (non-holiday) weekend. The Hunger Games should cross the $300 million mark at the domestic box office on Sunday. Its current total is $282.23 million. Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg's American Reunion landed at no. 2 on Friday. At 3,192 locations, the R-rated comedy took in $9.2 million — including $660,000 earned at Thursday midnight screenings. Its weekend total could reach $25 million. If those estimates are correct, Universal will claim that American Reunion far surpassed the $18.7 million earned by the original...
