This short series, created by the talented Patrick Boivin, represented a new direction for Bionicle media. While previous promotional videos were done with 2D Flash animation (Templar Studios), 3D animation of the sets (Ghost) or lifelike 3D animation (the movies), the Battle videos were made using stop-motion animation of the actual Bionicle sets themselves. The results are impressive, as the characters are authentic to the set appearances but are also articulate and expressive. The battles themselves are simple but easy to understand, as Boivin visually communicates the importance of the Golden Armor and each character's powers. Although the 2010 storyline was disappointing, this video series brought it to life in a very visually dynamic way. It's a shame the line ended before this style could be used elsewhere.
