In this morning's round-up, we have a Q&A with Casper Van Dien from the supernatural horror film, June. Also: details on Dracula's prop auction, XLrator Media's 24 Hour Rental, a video tribute to Friday the 13th Part VIII called "Voorhees Stomp", a new poster for The Hexecutioners, and release details for Krampus: The Reckoning.
Casper Van Dien Q&A: "June tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice) who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. And though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes, a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow. It’s only when June is sent to live with a new couple, Lily (Pratt) and Dave (Van Dien), that it looks as if things might finally work out. Except this innocent child with the face of an angel is possessed by an ancient, malevolent entity that has hijacked her soul.

In 1983, viewers saw the tire-squealing rage of a jealous ’58 Plymouth Fury in John Carpenter’s Christine, based on the Stephen King novel. Three years later, King himself directed Maximum Overdrive, in which everything from pop machines to semi-trucks followed their own deadly agendas. Now XLrator Media is tossing their film reel into the ring of vehicle-centric horror films with Wrecker, due out next summer.
“Los Angeles (November 10, 2014) – XLrator Media has acquired U.S. distribution rights at the American Film Market to the demonic truck horror-thriller Wrecker from IndustryWorks Pictures, which is currently in post-production. Storm Surfers 3D – how exciting can a documentary about surfing be? Well, when Ross Clarke-Jones and two-time World Champion Tom Carroll are involved, a hell of a lot more exciting than I expected. Following these two aquatic daredevils on their quest to surf the most dangerous and intimidating waves around, we watch them get tossed about like rag dolls by Neptune’s wrath, but also gasp at their expertise when conquering these fabled surfing spots. Exploring already tagged areas isn’t enough for our two men though, as their overarching goal is to surf a wave that’s never been surfed before, one that could end our shredder’s careers if handled the wrong way.
Acting like two almost fifty year old children, Tom and Ross are a fun duo to watch and make for entertaining characters, showing an admirable amount of energetic vibrancy in their aging bodies. Watching the...

Sam Worthington may be a big star in Hollywood action-adventures but Drift, the Australian surfing- set drama in which he co-stars with Myles Pollard and Xavier Samuel, has had a limited release in the Us.
Wrekin Hill Entertainment, which bought North American rights last September, launched the film at 11 cinemas on August 2, a month after the title debuted on Video-on-Demand platforms.
The Us critics gave the film featuring Pollard and Samuel as brothers who build a surfboard/surfwear business in the 1970s, with Worthington as their hippie photographer mate, a cool reception.
As of today, the distributor had not reported any figures to Rentrak, Box Office Mojo, The Numbers or other web sites which track the Us box-office.
Australian films released in Us cinemas and on VoD platforms have not fared well this year. Mental earned just $18,000 in ticket sales and 100 Bloody Acres made $6,000, according to Box Office Mojo.

Storm Surfers 3D offers far more than run-of-the-mill nature-porn docs. Sure, it's got tremendous footage of waves and silly people on funny boards trying to catch them. I saw the film on a big screen last September at Tiff, and was blown away by the spectacle. Yet the film is actually quite a bit more sophisticated than random shots of water churning. Tracing the friendship of Australian big-wave legends Tom Carroll and Ross Clark-Jones, the film treads more than water, delving into notions of mortality, aging, and the visceral thrill of the hunt.I spoke to co-director Christopher Nelius via Skype while he was in the UK. Twitch: How did you convince the reticent Tom and Ross to open up about their feelings, as much as...

Have you ever seen a killer wave, mate? Well, have you ever seen a killer wave . . . in 3D? This question resounds above all when watching Storm Surfers 3D, Chris Nelius and Justin McMillan's bodacious, x-treme, etc. doc about two Australian bros who love to surf. All right, they're not just any two bros—they're Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones, surfing legends who spend their time chasing the biggest waves around, with a team that includes a meteorologist and a fleet of jet skis. Yet despite the hoopla about finding "new waves" and exploring "hidden" surfing locations, the principal reason for the film's existence seems to be showing its heroes surfing giant waves in 3D. That 3D is gorgeous, but as wave after wave crashes by without much else happening, you might begin t...

Check out this cool trailer for a crazy looking new surfing documentary called Storm Surfers 3D. I love watching surf documentaries! I'm a huge fan of films such as The Endless Summer parts one and two, Riding Giants, Billabong Odyssey and several more. Storm Chasers looks like it's going to make a great addition to all of those docs. Not only am I a fan of these films, but I also enjoy surfing, just not waves as big as these guys ride, because I would die.
The film centers on Aussie surfers Ross Clarke-Jones and Tom Carroll as they hunt down the craziest waves on the planet and then ride them. The movie is narrated by Toni Collette, and you can check out the first trailer here! I can't wait to see this film! It looks intense. ...

Following in the footsteps of surfing documentaries like Step into Liquid, Riding Giants and The Endless Summer, a new documentary is diving into the ocean, showing the seemingly insane thrill-seeking hobby of big-wave riding. But this time, the action will come at audiences in another dimension with Storm Surfers 3D. Not only are Tom Carroll and Ross Clark-Jones surfing legends, but they have surf forecaster Ben Matson helping them track and chase giant storm systems in order to catch the biggest and most dangerous waves. Seriously, some of this footage is breathtaking and unbelievable. It should be impressive in theaters. Australia is producing a surfeit of sporting movies at the moment. Stellar cricket comedy bromance Save Your Legs has opened across the country, while Aussie rules football drama Blinder is waiting in the wings (or half-back flank) for its March 7 release. This article originally appeared in If Magazine #148 (Aug-Sept 2012). Since Storm Surfers 3D was released on August 14, it has become the eighth highest grossing local feature documentary of all time.
The tight-knit group behind Storm Surfers saw the production of a 3D feature film as a necessary step in their quest to create a truly international brand and they paid for it, in part, by leveraging the interest of 3D television channel operators.
.The benefit of using television pre-sales to finance the feature and other properties is that it is non-recoupable finance and the producer ends up with a bigger equity position,. said Marcus Gillezeau, who produced the latest chapter in the Storm Surfers franchise with life and business partner Ellenor Cox.
"Television pre-sales are licenses, so they don't take an equity position in the finance package whereas theatrical distributors or sales agents provide a minimum guarantee (Mg) which is recouped in first position.
The tight-knit group behind Storm Surfers saw the production of a 3D feature film as a necessary step in their quest to create a truly international brand and they paid for it, in part, by leveraging the interest of 3D television channel operators.

Made for an estimated $20m, the film opened across 283 screens for a $1,290 screen average in tenth spot in the top 20 films this week.
However, reviews for the film have been positive and the film opens after screening in official selection at the 69th Venice International Film Festival earlier this month.
It stars A Few Best Men’s Xavier Samuel, Nip Tuck’s Julian McMahon, Home and Away’s Sharni Vinson, Puberty Blues’ Dan Wylie and Tomorrow,...

The film, which has now reached $3.89 million in total, was shown across 285 screens giving it an average of $3842 per screen. A Big-wave 3D surf film which has been touring across the country will now see a limit general release.
Storm Surfers 3D went into limited released in Queensland and Nsw through Event and Hoyts Cinemas yesterday to around 20 screens.
