Enticing dialog-based therapy sessions
bluestranger1 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
"În derivã" focuses on one of the characteristics of modern society, psychotherapy, seen through the eyes of an A-one therapist. The main actor Marcel Iures plays Andrei Poenaru, a professional and distant psychologist that faces his life's challenge - his love for a patient. This romance will threaten everything he holds dear: his family, his self respect, his reputation and nonetheless his job.

But who are Andrei Poenaru's family? Laura (48 years old) is Andrei's wife, a mature woman, mother of 3 (Vlad - 9, Alexandra - 17 and Petru - 22). She feels neglected and angry for Andrei has always put his patients' interest above her and their children. She simply wants to feel loved and makes some wrong decisions concerning her marriage. She agrees to go to couple therapy to Maria (actress Tamara Cretulescu), but this will present too many unpleasant surprises for her to handle.

There are also the deep, catchy stories of Andrei's patients.

There are 5 episodes a week. MONDAYS are dedicated to Nora, one of the patients. (Episodes no 1, 6, 11 and so on). TUESDAYS - Victor (ep 2, 7, ...). WEDNESDAYS - Diana (ep 3, 8, ...). THURSDAYS - Ruxandra + Tudor (ep 4, 9, ...). FRIDAYS are dedicated to the therapy sessions of Andrei with his own therapist, Maria. (ep 5, 10,...).

Definitely worth seeing if you're into mind games! You'll get totally bored though if you're an action-movies addict.

Andrei Poenaru world

a series who impress first of its cast. than, for the stories. and for the dialogs. a Romanian version for a Jewish format. and, Marcel Iure;. he is the basic motif for to watch the series. and the axis not for the events or the fate of a psychoanalyst but for the place of a man in society. the second remarkable presence is Tamara Crețulescu, an admirable actress who gives to her role a lot of interesting nuances. film about understand yourself and the other, about solitude and need to escape from yourself, slow, dramatic, maybe boring for many viewers but useful to discover the links who defines people, it is a travel in the geography of Andrei Poenaru world, gray, dusty but common in essence for a large part of series public.

Romania. and nothing more

for me, it remains the precise portrait of Romanian society. and one of the most remarkable examples of the great art of Marcel Iureș. because it is a fresco of ordinaries doubts, fears, crisis, vulnerabilities in a grow up society. because it is more than meets between psychoanalyst and his patients but delicate sketch of looking for the sense . each character is a victim. with his nuances and reactions and truths. and Andrei Poenaru of Marcel Iureș is this guy who has not answers or solutions or the right attitude of the professional ice stereotypes. and this, for me, does this series impressive. or maybe special. because, more than a show, it is a mature picture, without idyllic/ironic/angry/vulgar/selfish/bizarre flavor about contemporary Romania. this is all.
