We at Tvplusfilms Enjoy and fully encourage Feedback and reviews off all our productions, be it good or not, with that in mind we were happy to see a review left from an audience member of the Salford Film festival, however we felt the review, although in part praise, for the Soundtrack certain actors, was overall very negative, this in part was due to a very early version of the film being shown at the Festival, since November 2010 the film has had several Edits (taking care of a lot of the problems highlighted from all the feedback) in turn this new edit has been sent to various festivals including the Wildsound festival in Canada. Below is highlights of the feedback from the festival, the feedback is a mixture of good and not so good points, however we believe this is a fairer reflection of the film compared to the review from Salford.
(THE TEMP) As per our guidelines, here is the committee's notes on you film. This is always a subjective thing but we do this so you understand our choice and also perhaps gain some insight from it:
You definitely have a really interesting plot idea but the execution, especially for a feature length film, could have been stronger. You clearly have a knack for film making and story telling but technically, The Temp could use a little work.
The lighting is an area of weakness in The Temp. Outdoor shots work really well but indoors, most shots could use supplementary lighting. The low indoor lighting dramatically alters the colour tone between shots and makes the picture a little grainy as the camera struggles to pull in the light necessary to optimally display the image
The editing overall is well done; there is a good flow of movement between shots. To enhance movement and the pacing in The Temp could use a greater shot selection. Some scenes are composed of only a few shots and there is overall a lack of close-ups and a variety of shot angles. You do stray a little from the typical when you attempt hand-held shooting. While the effect can be quite interesting.
The sound is well done but there are a few places where the sound peaks and we hear a little distortion. Make sure your boom operator keep as close eye on levels and that these are picked up further in post and softened up a little.
Technically everything was well done but it still lacks perfection. For a project of feature length, you can not allow for technical imperfection. Audiences become pickier and pickier as the length of a film increases. They are investing their time and emotions when they decided to watch a feature film. If it's not seamless, it becomes quickly discredited. Still there were many great elements that do help your audience forgive some technical issues. Your actors do a good job and they deliver the lines well. Your locations were well scouted and the street scenes really lent the film an authenticity. Wardrobe and set design also turned out really well.
The plot for the Temp is definitely interesting but the story itself could use a stronger direction and clarity. Technically the film is well done but not without flaws. You excel in many areas but more time should be spent developing the script and your technical knowledge. thanks WILDsound
