Maurice Schwartz, who starred in this short, was 21 when he made this, and part of the humor is that he looks like a grown man playing a small boy. He made a couple of dozen of these from 1911 through 1913. primitive and frantic, then went back on the stage where he achieved some real distinction, founding the Yiddish Art Theater. In 1939, he wrote, directed and starred in TEVYE, based on the Sholom Aleichem stories that would inspire FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. He would also occasionally appear in Hollywood movies, but he never really translated from the stage to the screen. He died in 1960, aged 69.
