- TriviaWhen Murdoch builds a two story diorama of the Jenkins mansion with chess pieces to simulate the suspects, Crabtree remarks that it would make a great board game, an obvious reference to the as yet non-existent game of "Cluedo." The game was originally invented to while away the time in the bomb shelters during the Battle of Britain. Anthony E. Pratt applied for a patent for the game, which was originally called "Murder." When the game was sold to Waddingtons, the name was changed to "Cluedo" ("Clue" in the US) and was released in 1949, fifty years after Crabtree's inspiration. Pratt's original playing rules called for ten players, the number of suspects that Murdoch has represented by chess pieces.
- GoofsThe Jell-o used by Dr. Ogden is green, presumably lime. The original Jell-o flavors dating to the late 1890s are raspberry, orange, lemon, and strawberry and did not include lime.
- Quotes
Constable George Crabtree: [Looking at the murdered body off-camera and referring to the coroner] What do you think he'll have to say about the cause of Mr. Jenkins' death?
Detective William Murdoch: [Sarcastically] With his gift for stating the obvious, he'll no doubt conclude that this was not a case of poisoning.
[the camera then tilts downward to reveal Jenkins' head with a large hole in it]
- ConnectionsReferences Upstairs, Downstairs (1971)
Dr Garland it seems to want to make Dr Ogden happy and is agreeable and almost suggestive of her helping the investigation. Murdoch is still in love with her. In regard to the murdered man it is said he forced himself on the maids and they have been dismissed from their jobs because he made them pregnant.
There are lots of maids and hired help for the house. The mother and wife of the murdered man seem to ignore his bad behavior with women and come to his defense.
Dr Ogden is helping Murdoch in the morgue and Dr Francis the current coroner comes in and is very angry. It seems Dr Francis took this job to be in the town his wife came from to make her happy. He ends up quitting and Inspector Brackenreid is very angry. He has a fit and makes all kinds of faces and is yelling, the scene is very humorous. I find Brackenreid and Crabtree personalities add a lot of humor to this series especially Crabtree's analysis to what happens in certain murder cases with his big eyes wide open like he is having a Sherlock Holmes moment he announces his deductions.
Surprise ending in deed. Dr Ogden is going to stay in Toronto at the insistence of her potential husband.
