(Updated with Cassian Elwes statement) Green Book producer Nick Vallelonga has gone off route when it comes to paying dozens of crew members on the upcoming That’s Amore! starring John Travolta, Katherine Heigl, Christopher Walken, Talia Shire and Drea de Mateo.
According to a complaint filed in federal court in New York on Dec. 8 by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, double Oscar winner Vallelonga’s That Amore Movie LLC has reneged on an arbitration deal struck between the parties on August 18 this year to pay union members for work performed in 2022 on the upcoming rom-com. The 77 IATSE members specifically affected performed the duties of “cinematographer, camera operator, camera assistant, editor, costume designer, wardrobe supervisor, hair and make-up stylists, production designer, art director, scenic artist, electrician, grip, construction, script supervisor, production coordinator, and accountant,” says the Matt Loeb-led union in the eight-page filing.

This article contains The Exorcist: Believer spoilers.
For nearly 20 years, author and screenwriter William Peter Blatty hated the ending of The Exorcist (1973) so much that he could barely speak with its director, William Friedkin. This would have likely struck many as odd considering the film faithfully adapted Blatty’s novel of the same name, and Blatty’s contribution to the work as screenwriter won him an Oscar. But the theatrical ending of that film was made so downbeat by its director—with Father Dyer (William O’Malley) looking at the staircase which stole the life of his best friend Father Karras (Jason Miller)—that many interpreted it as Dyer and the film were thinking none of this was worth it. For years afterward, Blatty was horrified when he encountered moviegoers who told him the Devil won.
Eventually, the director and screenwriter reconciled when the more upbeat and life-affirming final scene...

‘Venom 3‘ is right on the horizon. The first movie, starring Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams, started the franchise with a bang that was very much a surprise. The first film felt like a throwback to those early X-Men films from the early 2000s, and while it wasn’t very good in the end, it was fun. People’s curiosity really managed to win in the end, making the film a success at the box office. The second film was a more strange case, this time directed by Andy Serkis. The film just didn’t live up to expectations. And by being released during the pandemic period, it couldn’t come close to the previous film’s performance at the box office.

When Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ was released in 2013, we all thought a new era of DC had started since the movie was supposed to kick off a cinematic universe that was supposed to bring DC into the cinematic universe race with Marvel. However, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ received a mixed critical response, and despite grossing over $800 million worldwide, it was deemed a commercial disappointment since it was the first live-action movie that assembled Batman and Superman together.
In 2014, Warner Bros. and DC revealed their planned slate of DC movies, which included many solo movies like ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Aquaman,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Cyborg,’ and ‘The Green Lantern Corps.’ Now, nine years later, only three of these movies have been made, with the difference that ‘The Flash’ turned out to be very different from what it was originally planned. The movie has been in development hell for many years...

Before both Marvel and DC created their respective expanded cinematic universes, "The Avengers" changed the way studios approach major franchises, and Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy had even concluded, there was "Green Lantern." The 2011 box office bomb is a black sheep in the 2010s' superhero storm, often derided as an sloppy, corny mess that's more soap opera than space opera. Pre-"Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds himself is keenly aware of how much of a mess the film is and attributes its critical and financial failures to an overzealous, overinflated special effects budget that eclipsed any drive to craft an engaging story with compelling characters.
The generic, soulless "Green Lantern" reeks of studio interference; the result of Hollywood executives looking to make a flashy, inoffensive product appropriate for mass audience consumption. Puzzlingly, Warner Bros. took the opposite approach it did with Nolan's highly auteurist "Batman" films and manhandled...

This post contains spoilers for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always."
It should come as no surprise that "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always" is completely filled with nostalgia. Unlike most other anniversary specials for the beloved tokusatsu franchise, "Once & Always" does not feature several iterations of Power Rangers meeting, like "Forever Red" or "Once a Ranger." Instead, this is entirely focused on the first series in the franchise, the multi-season "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and its two generations of Rangers.
The special focuses on the return of Rita Repulsa, who has got herself a new robot body and brings tragedy to the Rangers. When Repulsa's armies start attacking Rangers around the world, new heroes will rise and the Power Rangers will see their legacy and their abilities tested. "Once & Always" sees the return of Zack Taylor (Walter Jones) and Billy Cranston (David Yost) from the first team, as...

File this one under news we never saw coming.
Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre are officially back in business together.
Deadline reported this week that the Two and a Half Men star and co-creator have teamed up for the Max original series How to Be a Bookie.
The series landed a formal series order in October 2022.
At the time, Sebastian Maniscalco was announced to be in the lead role.
It's unclear at this stage just how many episodes of the series Sheen is set to be a part of, but it is good news that the actor has mended fences with Lorre.
Sheen was number one on the call sheet for the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, but his tenure on the series concluded in a shocking fashion when the actor went through a very public meltdown.

Bradley Cooper once had the opportunity to play the superhero Green Lantern instead of Ryan Reynolds. But perhaps he drew too much inspiration from Batman Begins star Christian Bale, which ultimately lost him the part.

Cooper losing out on the superhero film Green Lantern may have been a blessing in disguise for the actor. The 2011 film was heavily panned by critics and performed far below expectations financially, which ruined the possibility for any potential sequels. HBO Green’s overall aim is to lower the carbon footprint and implement sustainable practices across all production. But specific to HBO and HBO Max, all of the company’s scripted fiction shows where they are the lead producer (which includes Euphoria, Succession, White Lotus and more), regardless of where they shoot globally, have to adhere to the HBO Green program.
The program consists of six categories: fuel, energy, waste, materials, community and on screen. In practice, this looks like eliminating single-use plastics, composting, donating excess food and materials once wrapped and reducing emissions with regard to the fuel and energy categories. On average, “56 percent of our show’s emissions come from fuel, which is in line with the industry averages,” says Heidi Kindberg, vp sustainability at Warner Bros. Discovery, who focuses...

In 1970, 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day. One of the more alarming predictions that day was from Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich, who foresaw a future in which “population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make,” resulting in the starvation death of hundreds of millions.
Hollywood took notice and released a string of eco-disaster films in the years to follow.
In 1972’s Silent Running, a science fiction film starring Bruce Dern — and directed by 2001: A Space Odyssey effects master Douglas Trumbull — all plant life on Earth has gone extinct. And 1973’s Soylent Green, with Charlton Heston (who had starred in two other sci-fi hits, 1968’s Planet of the Apes and 1971’s The Omega Man), took Ehrlich’s ideas to scary, if campy, extremes.

"A towering, teetering and exquisitely-wrought puzzle box." The Cinema Guild has released an official US trailer for a French-German indie film titled Human Flowers of the Flesh, which originally premiered at the 2022 Locarno Film Festival last year. Opening at the Metrograph in NYC in April, with hopefully more cinemas to follow. In her spellbinding followup to the critically acclaimed Drift, Helena Wittmann invites us to relinquish control and join her on a Mediterranean voyage unlike any other. Ida lives on a sailing yacht with a crew of five men. While on shore leave in Marseilles, she becomes fascinated with the French Foreign Legion and decides to sail to Sidi Bel Abbès (see Google Maps), the Legion's former headquarters in Algeria. This stars Angeliki Papoulia as Ida, along with Steffen Danek, Gustavo Jahn, Ingo Martens, and Denis Lavant. The film looks extremely experimental and intensely meditative, definitely not for everyone,...

“The Head of Joaquín Murrieta” bowed Feb. 17, guns blazing worldwide on Prime Video, weighing in as one of the biggest bets ever from Amazon Studios in Latin America and Amazon Prime and Colombian production powerhouse Dynamo. Its success can open the door for other big swings in Latin America.
Created by Colombia’s Mauricio Leiva Cock at Fidelio, one of the fastest rising writing-directing talents in Colombia, and Diego Ramírez Schrempp at Dynamo, which handled physical production of “Narcos” in Colombia, the ambitious Latin Western, fully locally developed, describes how Joaquin Murrieta, played by a mischievous Juan Manuel Bernal, became a legend.
His figure emerged to offer hope for downtrodden Mexicans in the chaotic and brutal aftermath of the 1846-48 Mexican American War which ended with Mexico’s loss of over half its territory, a hero to Mexicans, villain to the U.S., a Robin Hood of sorts, in a fractured and disjointed land,...

J.J. Abrams and HBO Max are officially putting a series into gear.
The streamer has picked up Duster, a 1970s-set drama from Abrams and Latoya Morgan (Into the Badlands, The Walking Dead). Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor, This Is Us) and Josh Holloway, who worked with Abrams on Lost, head the cast.
Duster is the first series to spring from a nine-figure film and TV deal Abrams’ Bad Robot company signed with WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) in 2019. In April 2020, Duster was one of three Bad Robot projects announced for the yet-to-launch HBO Max, along with The Shining offshoot Overlook and a Justice League Dark project. The latter two have since been scrapped (Bad Robot has shopped Overlook to other possible buyers), as has Abrams’ long-developing sci-fi series Demimonde (which was for the HBO parent channel) after concerns over its projected 200 million-plus budget.

Casey Affleck heaped praise on Andrew Dominik’s forthcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde during a press conference for his latest film Dreamin’ Wild at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday.

Affleck began discussing the Nc-17-rated flick after he was asked about his relationship with the film’s director Andrew Dominik whom he worked with on The Assassination of Jesse James, which also debuted in Venice.

For many observers, the sudden shelving of the nearly-completed Batgirl movie was the harbinger of a crisis at HBO Max. With the long-running Arrowverse coming to an end as The Flash completes its ninth and final season, that film seemed like a pariah, a sign that some shows will live, some shows will die, and nothing will be the same. But early reports indicate that most current series and some in production are still going forward.
Chief among these is Green Lantern, the ambitious show about three generations of space cops. Created by Arrowverse architects Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and The Lego Batman Movie writer Seth Grahame-Smith, Green Lantern demanded a budget to rival those of HBO’s prestige programs, such as Game of Thrones. With such high costs, Green Lantern seemed exactly like the type of show new Warner Brothers CEO David Zaslav wants to eliminate as he...

The music branch has been notorious for high-profile disqualifications and ineligibilities in the last few years. Last week, the BAFTA Awards website released a draft of what films are eligible for the upcoming show, set to take place on April 11, with nominations being announced on March 9. The list notes a film’s eligibility during the newly revamped round one voting period, which began on Jan. 12 and will conclude on Jan. 26.
The British Academy provided a roadmap of the musical scores that are not eligible for the Academy Awards and should not be expected for the shortlist announcement of 15, scheduled for Feb. 9.

2011’s Green Lantern movie may have stunk, no doubt about it, but Ryan Reynolds likely doesn’t regret signing on for the project as it was how he met his wife Blake Lively, who played Carol Ferris opposite his Hal Jordan in the DC flick. Of course, these days, Reynolds’ star level is so huge that there’s increasing chatter that he could actually return to the Dceu as the Emerald Knight, but maybe there’s also room for Lively to make a comeback alongside him.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the couple have been in talks with Warner Bros. about both of them joining some unknown upcoming DC project(s). That’s all the tipster could share, though, so this may mean that the pair will be reprising their Green Lantern roles or maybe they’ll pop up as completely different characters somewhere else.

Casey Bloys is exploring a whole new range of programming options as he takes the creative reins at HBO Max.
Bloys has been at the helm of HBO programming for a few years now, but was promoted to chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max back in August. In a keynote conversation on day one of Variety‘s Virtual FYC Fest, Bloys said that overseeing the streamer means looking at genres the premium cabler has not traditionally aired.
“HBO got to about 35 million subscribers, and that was about the cap,” Bloys told Variety‘s executive editor of TV, Daniel Holloway. “So the idea is, how do you broaden out the programming? And when we looked at it, obviously you go to places where HBO hasn’t been traditionally.”
Among the programming Bloys pointed to was DC Comics shows like the upcoming “Peacemaker” series starring John Cena or the Green Lantern series from Greg Berlanti.

Colonel Harland Sanders has for decades captured the fancy of the American public, usually over the course of dozens of 30-second commercials for KFC that break into TV programs. On Sunday, he won’t have to interrupt any longer.
He’s getting his own show.
Mario Lopez will star as the nation’s best-known fried-chicken spokesman in a steamy Lifetime “mini-movie” that hinges less on the chain’s “secret recipe” of 11 herbs and spices and more on dysfunctional family dynamics and forbidden love. And while the Lifetime program, “A Recipe for Seduction,” has all the hallmarks of one of the A+E-owned cable outlet’s high-drama potboilers, it is in essence a 15-minute commercial for the Yum Brands restaurant.
Most advertisers hope their commercials will spur consumers to buy their products after they see the spots. But KFC will use promotions for “Seduction,” which airs at noon on December 13, to order lunch.

DC Comics' "Far Sector" #9, available December 1, 2020, in support of the upcoming "Green Lantern" episodic TV series on HBO Max, is written by N.K. Jemisen and illustrated by Jamal Campbell:
"... an investigation by 'Jo' into the conspiracy at the heart of the 'City Enduring' takes her to 'Platform Solid Ground', an alien farmland where most of the City’s food comes from. But what the headstrong Green Lantern discovers there shakes even her to the core as Far Sector’s thrilling threads of machinations build to a fever pitch..."
Created for DC Comics in the 1940's, the 'Green Lantern' character derives super-abilities from the use of a ring that can transmute green energy into physical matter.
The first 'Green Lantern', 'Alan Wellington Scott', debuted in "All-American Comics" #16 (July 1940).

After a short battle with prostate cancer, Star Wars actor and the man under Darth Vader’s armor, David Prowse, passed away today at the age of 85.
We know the legendary James Earl Jones as the unmistakable voice of Vader, but we owe the villain’s menacing physical presence to Prowse, the iconic British bodybuilder who donned the character’s armor and helmet in the Original Trilogy. He also starred in I Am Your Father, a 2015 documentary that depicts the life of the weightlifter as a rather anonymous star of the galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars‘ Mark Hamill, who portrayed Vader’s son Luke and as such played many scenes next to Prowse, has now paid tribute to the actor in a heartfelt tweet, writing:
So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the...

Of the six heroes, two of their futures are secure, one’s stuck running in circles, one’s gone for good and the other is trapped in the Phantom Zone for the time being. When it comes to Cyborg, though, we’ve all assumed we probably won’t be seeing any more of him in the movies.
We Got This Covered has just got an update on Victor Stone’s Dceu status, however, and it turns out there’s hope for Cyborg fans after all, but with a catch. DC is moving forward with a Blue Beetle film, with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer attached to pen the script, and our sources – the same ones who said a Green Lantern show is...
