Exclusive: Fox is re-conceiving one of the lead characters in Dads, its six-episode multi-camera comedy series from Ted‘s team of Alec Sulkin, Wellesley Wild and Seth MacFarlane. As a result, the role is being recast, with Giovanni Ribisi replacing Tommy Dewey as the co-lead opposite Seth Green. The decision was made after the taping of the show’s first episode late last week, which was expected to prompt some tweaking. Written by Sulkin and Wild, the 20th TV-produced Dads centers on two successful guys in their 30s, Eli (Green) and Warner (Ribisi), who have their lives turned upside down when their nightmare dads (Peter Riegert, Martin Mull) unexpectedly move in with them. Ribisi’s casting likely stems from the actor’s relationship with MacFarlane, Sulkin and Wild. He co-starred in the trio’s blockbuster Ted and is also on board to star in their follow-up Western comedy feature, also...

Tommy Dewey has landed a lead role in Dads, Fox‘s six-episode multi-camera comedy series from Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild and co-writer/director/star Seth MacFarlane. Written by Sulkin and Wild, Dads centers on two successful guys in their 30s, Eli and Warner (Dewey), who have their lives turned upside down when their nightmare dads unexpectedly move in with them. Warner is the co-owner of a successful videogame company, a family man with a wife he loves and two young kids he adores. Since ever-feckless father Crawford has come to live with him, Warner spends his free time worrying and fretting about the next catastrophe Crawford will cause. 20th Century Fox TV is producing. Dewey is favorite of Fox brass. He played the co-lead in the network’s 2011 comedy pilot Tagged and just wrapped a major recurring role on Fox’s freshman comedy series The Mindy Project.

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

Second in a series on the new pilot season. Previously: Excuse Me, Mr. Scorsese -- a Note From the Writer Pilot season can also be a cruel tease. Every year, there's at least one project that features one of our favorite actors that has been Mia from the small screen for a while -- and who we want to see back. Regardless of what they're in. This year's crop of pilots features quite a few big names: Kiefer Sutherland on "Touched" (Fox), Amanda Peet on "Bent" (NBC), Gary Cole on "Tagged" (Fox). But...

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

We would have been pulling for the Fox pilot "Tagged" -- an ensemble comedy set at the Baltimore County coroner's office -- even if its creators had decided to surround its lead actor by a cast made up entirely of mimes. That's because we will literally watch anything featuring Gary Cole. Luckily, "Tagged" seems to be entirely mime-free and has now added the also-funny comedian Bret Ernst to a growing supporting cast that also includes Robin Givens ("Head of the Class") and Mel Rodriguez ("Running Wilde"). New Wave Entertainment, which represents Ernst, tells TheWrap...

Forget watching cops, doctors and lawyers working dreary modern-day jobs. Next fall, TV could be ruled by superheros, wizards and Playboy bunnies.
The broadcast networks’ pilot orders, which are nearly finished for the year, make this extreme primetime makeover actually possible. Not since a certain ABC show about a mysterious island became a massive hit have the Big Five developed so many serialized, sci fi and straight-up wild projects.
So far we’ve told you all about the best and brightest and craziest pilots in the works at ABC, CBS and NBC. But taking chances isn’t anything new to Fox,...

TV, which is about 3 families united through their kids’ little league sports. It centers on the Caucasian, oh-so-proper Wellers (Corddry, Marshall) who move from San Jose, CA to Austin, TX, but find that their adjustment won't be quite that easy, considering that their Latino neighbors, the Pachecos, have a radically different approach to child-rearing than they do, while their other new neighborhood acquaintances, the African American Burlesons, take sports very seriously. Deal will allow Corddry, who has an overall deal at Wbtv, to continue his work on Adult Swim's Childrens Hospital, which he created and executive produces with David Wain and Jonathan Stern. Corddry, repped by Wme and Principato-Young, can be seen in Fox Searchlight's...
