Sergio Di Zio: Constable Michelangelo 'Spike' Scarlatti

Quotes

  • Ed Lane : A suspicious package was found in the lower level of the North Tower, corner of King and Bay.

Gregory Parker : Security guard was on patrol, sees something in the trash can he doesn't like and he calls it in.

Sam Braddock : So what was the package?

Ed Lane : Blue and white vinyl gym bag. He opened it up saw some wires, didn't go any further.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Wow vinyl gym bag, I haven't seen one of those since high school.

Mike Scarlatti : Hey, I had one of those.

  • Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : [Walking with Spike behind Babycakes]  Lot of trouble to go through for a gym bag.

Mike Scarlatti : Yeah we get a couple of these calls a year, usually it's nothing. Babycakes we haven't had a date for a while. See that yellow box on her? That's a new multi-ray plus, gives her a nose like a Doberman.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Ten PPM of thirty-five different deadly chemicals right?

Mike Scarlatti : Buddy, nice! But short of magnitude, you gotta move the decimal place. One part per million and she barks. Don't sell my baby short.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : My bad.

  • Mike Scarlatti : [Standing behind wall as Babycakes approaches bomb]  What's the protocol?

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Investigate, evaluate, neutralize. Hopefully not detonate.

Mike Scarlatti : Lets see what she smells.

  • Mike Scarlatti : [Trapped underground after explosion]  Two bombs? Two explosions?

Ed Lane : [Over headset]  Almost on top of each other.

Mike Scarlatti : Two bombs almost simultaneous.

Gregory Parker : [Over headset]  Spike what's on your mind?

Mike Scarlatti : Well what's at play here? Why two bombs?

Gregory Parker : Maximum damage, the second one's a backup?

Mike Scarlatti : The bombs, they're big but they're not huge.

  • Mike Scarlatti : Boss find Kanisky I can crack this thing.

Gregory Parker : You bet buddy we're on it.

Winnie Camden : [Spike's PDA beeps]  Guys check your phones, I just sent a picture of our subject, Alex Kanisky.

Mike Scarlatti : Boss, I think you can call off that search. Sam, check your PDA.

[Sam looks at the picture and sees that the bomber is Tony the security guard]

Mike Scarlatti : The bomber has been down here with us this whole time.

  • Sam Braddock : [Raf and Sam have guns drawn]  Tony, you're going to have to keep your hands where we can see them.

Mike Scarlatti : Alexi, Alexi Kanisky?

Tony : You know who I am.

Mike Scarlatti : I know you're the only man who can help me. We know what happened at Lewellen.

    Tony : I can't help you.

Mike Scarlatti : Yeah, you can.

    Tony : I won't help you.

Mike Scarlatti : Then, you're killing all of us.

    Tony : Then we die.

  • Mike Scarlatti : [Spike unhooks himself from the harness]  Galina. Boss, the code is Galina. It's alpha-numeric, like a phone. Quick, help me out, what were those numbers I keyed in again? It's alpha-numeric, it's like a phone. G...

Gregory Parker : Buddy, buddy, buddy what're you doing?

Mike Scarlatti : If Galina's the code I can disarm the infrared and get rid of the detonator.

Ed Lane : Spike get in the harness.

    Mike Scarlatti : [Counting on fingers]  G: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. G is four.

Gregory Parker : Spike, there's no time you get outta there!

    Mike Scarlatti : A, A is two am I right? Four, two. L: A, B, C...

Sam Braddock : Get outta there Spike.

    Mike Scarlatti : L, L is five. I, four. N? What's N boss? Boss what's N? N, N, N...

Gregory Parker : [Reading through audio transcripts]  Two, four, five, six, were the keys, two and four were double tapped. Eddy you get outta there.

    Ed Lane : Spike!

Mike Scarlatti : [Yelling]  Ed get outta here! Am I right N is six? Six, six, N is six, am I right?

    [Desperately]

Mike Scarlatti : Please, please help me. Help me please, help me. Help me! Help me!

Tony : Six and then two.

Mike Scarlatti : [Punching in final two keys]  Six, two.

    [Infrared beam disappears]

Mike Scarlatti : IR's down, opening the box.

Gregory Parker : Spike ya got it?

Mike Scarlatti : No I gotta get the fuse out.

    [Hands Alexi a screwdriver]

    Mike Scarlatti : Help me.

Tony : Okay easy, easy, easy.

    Mike Scarlatti : Okay, okay.

Gregory Parker : Eddy, you get outta there right now damn it, right now!

Ed Lane : Sixty seconds, I'm not leaving him down there.

Mike Scarlatti : Ed one man down range. Ed one man down range.

    Ed Lane : Spike.

[Ed pounds fist and runs back to trucks]

    Gregory Parker : Michelangelo?

Mike Scarlatti : Boss I know, I know it's gonna be tight we're almost there. I'll grab the detonator, stop the bomb.

[Spike and Alexi access the detonator which is beeping. Spike grabs it and throws it right before it goes off]

    Mike Scarlatti : Bomb diffused.

Ed Lane : [Relieved]  Lets get him out!

  • Ed Lane : [Pulling Spike up in the harness]  Michelangelo Scarlatti, what, what were you thinking?

Mike Scarlatti : Just doin' my job.

[Spike and Ed hug while other team members pat him on the back]

  • Gregory Parker : So what's worth targeting down there?

Mike Scarlatti : Well that's just it.

Gregory Parker : Spike what do you mean?

Mike Scarlatti : More like they were meant to seal the hallway than destroy anything in particular.

    Gregory Parker : Why?

Mike Scarlatti : [Spike approaches large courier package]  That's what I'm trying to figure out.

[Attempts to open box but can't]

Gregory Parker : Forget it, lets get you guys outta there. We can worry about a motive later.

[Spike grabs portable x-ray device and scans the package]

Gregory Parker : Where'd ya go Spike? What's goin' on?

Mike Scarlatti : [Looking at image of large bomb]  Bad news boss. There's another device, and it's huge. It makes the other two look like firecrackers.

  • Gregory Parker : [On phone with potential bomber]  Is there a reason you picked today sir? Is this date part of your message?

Possible Bomber : Today's just the start Sergeant Parker. There's gonna be a whole lot more just like this.

Mike Scarlatti : [Over headset]  Red flag boss. A bomb this complex you don't knock off a bunch of them, this is a once in a lifetime.

Gregory Parker : You have to make real sure with this Spike.

Mike Scarlatti : Ask him how he got so much dinomite.

Gregory Parker : Sir, could you tell me how you got your hands on so much dinomite? That's quite a coo.

Possible Bomber : Don't underestimate the little guy. There's a lot more dinomite where that came from.

Mike Scarlatti : Aah! Wrong answer.

Gregory Parker : Bomber used plastique.

  • Gregory Parker : Hey Spike how ya doin' down there buddy?

Mike Scarlatti : [Using a black-light on keypad]  Okay numbers touched are uh, two, four, five, and six. Two and four both look like they were double touched so that narrows down our possible code combinations from infinity to,

    [looks at phone]

Mike Scarlatti : about half that.

  • Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : It's a long way down, it's gonna take some time.

Jules Callaghan : Nine people are down there. How much time for each person?

Ed Lane : Up and down maybe three minutes per person.

Jules Callaghan : My God that's twenty-seven minutes.

Sam Braddock : That's not enough time.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : If you send some tools down here we can cut the metal and make the hole bigger. We might be able to take this bomb right out.

Gregory Parker : Spike could that work?

Mike Scarlatti : Could work or we could trip another counter measure and blow the bomb up early.

Jules Callaghan : Okay but we gotta try 'cause not everybody is gonna make it.

Mike Scarlatti : You saying I can't diffuse a bomb?

  • Sam Braddock : [pulls a lid off a trash can - on radio]  Spike! I found your bag. You must've walked right past it.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Uh, we're with the package now.

Mike Scarlatti : Sam, get those people out of here right now. There's two bombs.

  • Gregory Parker : What's going on?

Ed Lane : We got two separate explosions. Jules and I are going down now.

    [on radio]

Ed Lane : Spike, Raf, talk to me! Get out of the way!

Gregory Parker : [on radio]  Sam, Spike, Raf, talk to me! Sam. Sam, buddy, talk to me, please. Spike, Raf, talk to me. What's going on? You guys okay? Spike. Raf!

Mike Scarlatti : [slowly waking up after being knocked unconscious]  Raf? Raf? Are you hurt? Raf! Are you hurt?

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : [waking up]  Yeah, I'm good man. You? You okay?

    Mike Scarlatti : I'm good.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : All right.

Gregory Parker : [on radio]  Spike? Raf!

Mike Scarlatti : Boss, it's Spike. Raf and I are okay. The device detonated. There's significant damage. Hallway's caved in.

Gregory Parker : Sam! Sam, talk to me! Raf... Go find our guy!

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Copy that.

Ed Lane : [on radio]  Sam, you copy?

Jules Callaghan : [on radio]  Sam? Come on, speak to me, Sam!

  • Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : [searching through debris]  Sam! Oh, man, Sam's down.

Mike Scarlatti : Is he breathing?

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Boss, I... I found Sam. He's unconscious, uh, but his pulse is good.

  • Gregory Parker : [on radio]  Spike! Raf! Everyone down there needs to find cover! Right now!

Mike Scarlatti : Due respect, but there's no such thing as cover with this thing.

  • Mike Scarlatti : The bomb is armed on a classic timer: British number ten pencil fuse. I've only read about them. When our guy left it, he would have tightened this screw. It busts a glass vial, releasing a chemical that starts eating away at a tiny filament. Once that breaks, the firing pin is released and...

    Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Kaboom.

Mike Scarlatti : Yeah, that's the technical term. It's brilliant. High-tech bomb with an old-school timer. Totally immune to electronic countermeasures.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : So... the liquid nitrogen stops the acid?

Mike Scarlatti : No, nothing's going to stop it. That's why they used this fuse.

[Begins pouring liquid nitrogen into fuse hole]

Mike Scarlatti : If I do this right it might slow it down.

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : Buy some time.

Mike Scarlatti : Yeah, give Ed a chance to get us out.

  • Gregory Parker : Spike say again, there's another bomb? Another gym bag?

Mike Scarlatti : I wish. We're looking at fifty, maybe seventy pounds of plastique. With the hallway blocked up after the first two, this thing'll shoot straight up like a roman candle. The whole building could go.

Gregory Parker : Does it have a timer?

    Mike Scarlatti : I'm looking.

  • Gregory Parker : Eddy how are we? We any closer to gettin' to our folks down there?

Ed Lane : We got a key structural wall here that's been damaged. We pull out the wrong piece of rubble, the whole thing'll come down.

Fire Chief : We'll need three, four hours maybe if we don't want it all caving in.

Ed Lane : Three hours we got that long?

Gregory Parker : Spike what do you think?

Mike Scarlatti : [Looking at image of bomb using portable x-ray]  I think everybody's gotta move back right now.

Gregory Parker : Why Spike, what do you see?

Mike Scarlatti : Timer's chemical. I can't be exact boss but...

Gregory Parker : Could you give me a guess?

Rafik 'Raf' Rousseau : [Moving civilians back from Spike]  C'mon guys you gotta move back, give him some room. Move back let us work!

Mike Scarlatti : Maybe five minutes.

  • Mike Scarlatti : You ever blow stuff up as a kid?

    Tony : Smoke volcanoes.

Mike Scarlatti : Baking soda, vinegar? For me, it was fireworks. Roman candles, palomas. My dad hated it, always worrying.

Tony : Same as my mother.

Mike Scarlatti : He thought one day maybe it would turn me into a scientist, a chemist. Something he could be proud of, something safe. One day he came home and he caught me mixing camping fuel, bleach...

    Tony : Citric acid.

Mike Scarlatti : Yeah! That's a great explosion.

Ed Lane : Spike get in the harness.

Mike Scarlatti : But the thing is, I didn't do it right. And I burned myself pretty bad. I was nine years old.

Tony : Did you stop making bombs after that?

Mike Scarlatti : No, but I learned how to do it right. And then later on, I learned how to take them apart. Because I don't want to see people get hurt. I didn't want anyone to see the look I saw in my dad's eyes.
