Quotes

  • Georg Baselitz : I thought if I paint a destroyed world using one figure as a central symbol it could just as well be a tree. So I painted a tree, with blood flowing from a broken branch and branches are falling down all over. It becomes a human figure.

  • Georg Baselitz : I always have seen images as independent of content meaning and totally unconnected to associations which may arise from them. If you proceed in this line of thought you will say if a tree is needed in the painting, or a person or a cow without content or special meaning, you take the image, but use it upside-down. When it stands on its head it is absolved of any tradition.

  • Georg Baselitz : You see, walking through this exhibition, that I constantly work from new models. I am not true to one model, working it to perfection. I am totally fickle and am drawn to many models, for my life, my biography and my success as an artist. Just like toys, always new ones. I need somehow to remain noticeable.
