Quotes

  • Sol LeWitt : People were writing, talking and thinking about something called Minimalism and there was a diminution of form, to more of its basic elements such as you saw in Judd, and Flavin and Morris at that time and it was a very legitimate idea but to me it became a dead end because once you reach the ultimate which happened to be something like Bob Morris would do a block or a square or something inside of a wall or something like that, that was the end. It was a dead end street and the thing that opened it up to me was the idea that the form was just a carrier of ideas than it had to be an art of content.

  • Sol LeWitt : One aspect is that conceptually and theoretically they are very simple, but perceptually and physically they become very complicated and chaotic and there are cubes that- three dimensional cubes that are much more dense and much more chaotic when you look at them, except you get certain aspects of it and they all line up and then as soon as you take a step they- it all falls apart visually.
