UK-based Australian filmmaker Eron Sheean turned a lot of heads a few years ago with his science fiction drama Errors of the Human Body (read Mack's review here), and his current project looks very promising as well. Shooting has commenced on The Rock of Ages, a fantasy short written and directed by Eron, and he calls it a surreal black comedy, heavily influenced by the works of Jim Henson, Terry Gilliam, and Ingmar Bergman. Wowzers! As taken from the Indiegogo website: The story is about a violent soldier who does terrible things, in some misguided belief it will make him immortal and all-powerful. His final confrontation comes on the side...

While writing and directing a well-received short film can be a great stepping stone to features, aspiring feature directors should avoid the trap of making short after short.
Producer Raquelle David expressed that view on social media, prompting a flood of comments, some in full support, others disagreeing.
.Australian writers and directors that have made one solid short film need to stop making more,. said David, who has produced more than a dozen shorts and is developing several features.
.Seriously, stop. Focus on the feature or high-end TV concept and work with producers that will help you realise it. I'm so worried about our industry pumping out great shorts but bugger all else..
Screenwriter Shane Danielsen, who made his directing debut on the short The Guests, which screened in official competition in Cannes, produced by David, responded, .Could not agree more..

Civil War on Drugs: Burris Turns Southern Gothic into Southern Comfort
Though its title sounds something you’d expect to grace a Christian propaganda film starring Kirk Cameron, the directorial debut by producer David Burris, The World Made Straight, gets drunk on its own solemn resonance and turns its intriguing elements of tragic fate and warps them into eye crossed foolishness. Painstakingly earnest Jeremy Irvine, struggling still to make good on the boost afforded his visibility after 2011’s War Horse, headlines a curious cast assembled atop an organism featuring a number of exciting elements. But this is rather complicated material and is based on Ron Rash’s 2006 novel. A higher degree of finesse could have teased out the tale’s noir roots, as clearly it’s inspired by any number of Elizabethan or Greek tragedy sources, whereby bloodlines are irrevocably cursed by misdeeds of the forefathers.

"What if?" is the burning question our favorite sci-fi movies ask: What if Earth was invaded by aliens or giant spiders? What makes us human once we start bending the laws of genetics and robotics? And if we worked out really really hard, would we ever have Linda Hamilton's arms in "Terminator 2"?
Here are some of the best of the sci-fi genre now streaming on Netflix, including Chris Evans in "Snowpiercer," Bruce Willis in "The Fifth Element" and plenty of Godzilla and the crew of the USS Enterprise.
1. "Antiviral" (2012) Nr
David Cronenberg's son, Brandon, makes his film debut with this gore-filled horror flick about a company who deals in viruses collected from celebrities since people want to be infected with the same diseases as the ultra-famous.
2. "Barbarella" (1968) PG
The cult film, starring Jane Fonda as the sexy space babe of the title, may be overlong, but it's an eye-popping must-see '60s flashback.

British comedy legend Rik Mayall has died at just 56. A spokesman for his management company confirmed that Mayall passed away this morning. Mayall is survived by his wife and three children.
The actor and comedian is best remembered for his small screen roles such as the obnoxious poetry-writing anarchist Rick in cult sitcom "The Young Ones," the sex-crazed arrogant Lord Flashheart in several versions of "Blackadder," the sociopathic right-wing back bencher Alan Beresford B'Stard in "The New Statesman," and the perverted Richie in "Bottom". Other TV credits include "Jonathan Creek" and "Filthy Rich & Catflap"
Mayall also appeared in several films, most famously as the title character in "Drop Dead Fred". He also appeared in "Carry On Columbus," "Guest House Paradiso," "The Wind in the Willows," "Shock Treatment," "Errors of the Human Body" and even a tiny role in "An American Werewolf in London".

After movies like V/H/S and The ABCs of Death, I’m all for horror anthologies abiding by a particular theme. There’s something inherently fun about such a cornucopia of treats, as different directors populate one single film with so many distinctive styles and traits – as long as the segments set the stage for such fun. I’ll always give a horror anthology a try, from Chillerama to The Theatre Bizarre, which is why I’m happy to say we’ve got an exciting anthology coming our way with Fear Paris.
Newly announced, Fear Paris will join the likes of Joe Dante (Gremlins), Xavier Gens (Hitman/Frontier(s)), and Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), as they explore the horrific underworld of France’s iconic capital city. Here’s the full press release, accompanied by a tonal teaser below:

Errors Of The Human Body may only be considered a suspenseful thriller, but to me it’s straight horror. Why? I’ll be completely honest with you all – science terrifies me. I understand the need to always keep learning and create even greater understandings about this big, glorious universe we all live on, but at what cost? Do we really need to be creating super hadron colliders which can smash particles at the risk of creating a black hole which could potentially consume our planet? Think about it, if one measly scientist were to calculate a number wrong to the decimal point – boom, goodbye humanity. “Well the good news is, we discovered a new element. The bad news is, we’re all going to die – In The Name Of Science!”

What if you could unlock the key to solving human illness and frailty forever? That's something of a holy grain for scientists and doctors and it serves as the driving force behind the dramatic chiller "Errors Of The Human Body." Eron Sheean makes his directorial debut with the film, which stars Michael Eklund ("The Call," "The Divide") and Karoline Herfuth ("The Reader," "Passion"), and tells the story of a recently divorced Canadian geneticist who decamps to Germany to work with with his former intern and colleague Rebekka on a human regenerative gene. Maddeningly close to a medical breakthrough, the geneticist quickly finds himself on a dangerous downward spiral. This exclusive clip nicely sets up the relationships and themes that carry through the rest of the film. "Errors Of The Human Body" is now playing in select theaters and is also available to watch on Cable VOD, SundanceNOW and other digital outlets (iTunes,...

Sunday night was a night for sci-fi drama at the O Cinema in the Wynwood area of downtown Miami. Showing at the art-house theater was “Errors of the Human Body,” a dark science-fiction film by Eron Sheean. There was a lot to take in. Warning, this review might not come to a great conclusion. The story follows a genetic scientist named Geoff (Eklund), who has traveled to Europe to take part in a new research project spearheaded by [ Read More ]

Errors Of The Human Body
Stars: Michael Eklund, Karoline Herfurth, Tomas Lemarquis, Rik Mayall, Caroline Gerdolle | Written by Eron Sheean, Shane Danielsen | Directed by Eron Sheean
The debut feature from screenwriter Eron Sheean, who was responsible for penning The Divide for Xavier Gens (which also starred Michael Eklund), Errors of the Human Body is a film that belies genre-specific categorisation. Part Michael Crichton medical thriller, part David Cronenberg body-horror, with a hint of the classic Frankenstein, it’s both a challenging and intriguing film – although it is not without its faults.
The film follows Canadian scientist Dr Geoff Burton (Eklund) who takes up a position at a scientific institute in Dresden, Germany, with the intention of continuing his research into random embryonic abnormalities – research borne out of a personal tragedy (the death of his infant son) that has haunted him for years. Hooking up with his former intern, Dr Rebekka Fiedler,...
