Drunk Uncle came to the United States from India with the American Dream in mind, but the weight of unrealized expectations, financial stresses and a drinking problem have made his life a disaster. His wife and kids have recently left him to go back to India and his wedding videography business is barely keeping him afloat. He receives a visit from Sophisticated Uncle, a former colleague who has done well for himself. He is a professor, has had numerous books published, and teaches yoga on Sundays. Most of the film is their interaction with one another, and a chance for us to explore the characters of both men. Is Drunk Uncle really an alcoholic scumbag or a poetic heart who can't handle the mundanities of life? Is Sophisticated Uncle really happy and successful or just an empty soul with shark-faced ambition? This film uses a comedic lens to look at these men and the parts of the American Dream that they represent.
