While we wait to see if that Harmony Korine project with Robert Pattinson will really happen (we hope it does), the director is keeping himself busy and the bills paid by stepping into the fashion world. The director has gotten behind the camera for a fragrance ad for Dior, but the results are more traditional than you might think. The spot, led by model Sasha Lass, finds her taking a trip to the other side of the mirror, where things are vaguely weirder, but not by much. After all, this is a major brand. The music is "Enter The Ninja" by Die Antwoord, and you might remember that the South African duo teamed with Korine for the short "Umshini Wam" a few years back, so we guess that bond is still strong. Anyway, check out Korine's director's cut of the ad below which features about twenty more seconds of beyond...

Encounters Short Film And Animation Festival, Bristol
The short-film and animation communities descend on Bristol for this annual gathering, which offers networking for pros and viewing pleasures galore for punters. Most screenings are organised into bite-sized programmes, where you'll find new talent alongside familiar names like Harmony Korine (with his bizarre South African jaunt Umshini Wam), Gina McKee, plus – in animation – the cast of Aardman's Pirates feature in a gameshow.
Various venues, Tue to 23 Sep
Film & Media Arts Festival, Berwick-upon-Tweed
Cinema and photography mix in unpredictable ways at this imaginative festival, which finds room for both a pastoral Swedish documentary called Women With Cows and Milla Jovovich kicking-corporate zombie ass in Resident Evil: Retribution. There are countless crossover movies, from road romance Here (between a cartographer and a snapper) to Chasing Ice, in which a photographer tracks melting polar ice, to art films by Shirin Neshat, Wim Wenders and Chris Marker.

There are great filmmakers, and then there are directors like Harmony Korine.
Be it his absurdly bewildering Trash Humpers or his equally cartoonish short Umshini Wam, there is truly no filmmaker quite like Korine. And now, the auteur is back, with yet another short, entitled The Fourth Dimension.

If you were paying attention a couple of hours ago, you'll know that the Tribeca Film Festival has announced its preliminary slate beyond the opening night film, "The Five-Year Engagement." And it's a pretty good one so far, with highlights including "Jack And Diane," Bradley Rust Gray's long-awaited follow-up to the 2009's "The Exploding Girl," the Mexico-set drama "The Girl," starring Abbie Cornish, and much more.
With Tribeca's first-salvo slate announced, here come some first looks and new photos from a few of the films premiering at the festival. First up is the aforementioned teenage lesbian love tale/werewolf film (no really) "Jack And Diane" (above). This first look photo is of leads Juno Temple and Riley Keough. The rest of the cast features Jena Malone, Dane DeHaan (the bad kid from "Chronicle"), Leo Fitzpatrick and the one and only Kylie Minogue.
Next we have a first look at "While We Were Here,...

Jan Kwiecinski & Alexei Fedorchenko Join Harmony Korine In Forthcoming Omnibus It has already been a busy year for Harmony Korine but his calendar keeps filling up further, and that's just fine by us. He's teamed with James Franco on some kind of street gang project, premiered his short film collaboration with Die Antwoord "Umshini Wam," created an ad for Indian megacorp Mahindra, and is working on a short film with Val Kilmer that will form part of a Dogme-esque omnibus film. We'll have more on that in a second, but it appears there is yet another project Korine has…...

[1] Harmony Korine has built up quite a reputation as a polarizing cult filmmaker (writer of Kids, writer/director of Gummo, Mister Lonely, Trash Humpers), but that hasn't stopped him from doing quite well for himself in the relatively safe world of commercials. Among his past high-profile clients are Budweiser, Liberty Mutual, and Axe. His latest commercial effort sees him teaming up with high-end fashion line Proenza Schouler for a four-minute short titled Snowballs, featuring the brand's Southwestern-flavored Fall 2011 collection. Although Snowballs won't drop til next week, we've got an exclusive look at two posters for the film that suggest something artsy, colorful, and hopefully a little twisted. Check 'em out after the jump. [gallery columns="2" orderby="title" exclude="112515"] The new collaboration marks the second time Korine has worked with the brand. Last year, he created a short Super 8 film titled Act da Fool to promote Proenza Schouler's fall 2010 line. Watch it below: Though Korine hasn't...

For their 5th annual event, which is set to run Sept. 8-11, the Sydney Underground Film Festival is looking a little more demented than ever. And that’s saying a lot for this scrappy, still relatively young fest, which typically offers ample twisted cinematic offerings.
The fun kicks off with the Opening Night film, the demented superhero comedy Super, written and directed by former Troma go-to screenwriter James Gunn (Tromeo & Juliet); then ends with the Closing Night wallowing in Sydney’s seedy underbelly, X, by homegrown filmmaker Jon Hewitt.
Crammed between these two excursions into violence and depravity is a lineup filled with perverse visions, scandalous public figures, sickening horror, experimental pop culture remixes and more.
For Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film, the highlight of the fest is Usama Alshaibi‘s Profane, a complex psychological, psychosexual, spiritual morality play about a Muslim sex worker who endures a “reverse...

Say what you will about Harmony Korine, but there is probably no other contemporary American director who so steadfastly sticks to his vision without compromise. Even this lone attempt at more "mainstream" filmmaking "Mister Lonely" was imbued with Korine's signature moments of radiant brilliance: the nuns falling out of the plane to Aphex Twin? The lovely slo-mo opening? After last year's delightfully twisted "Trash Humpers," 2011 has seen Korine busier than ever. He hit SXSW this spring with his Die Antwoord starring short film "Umshini Wam" and he's also doing some kind of mysterious kids-in-bike-gangs project with James Franco. There…...

We Hope So The problem with being on the outer fringes of the cinema world doing your own freaky thing is that it's a fine line between being interesting and bizarre and just plain predictable and bizarre. But leave it to Harmony Korine, we never know what that guy is gonna do next, and he always seems to keep it fresh. His latest effort, the Die Antwoord short film "Umshini Wam" delighted us at SXSW. But the ever busy director is already on to his next thing, and it's teaming with actor/artist/soap opera star/writer/teacher/philosopher James Franco on a mysterious street…...
