Perspective on those claiming the show is too hard
Allmyn1cknamesweretaken12 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Some people reviewing clearly didn't see the original, or they just prefer everything to be super easy, feel-good tv. Of course it's fine for some, but then let's face it: this show isn't going to be for you.

In the original run, the attackers only won 8 times out of 129(!). So no, it's not remotely supposed to be easy. That's the beauty of Takeshis Castle. Yes some games do seem a lot harder than in the original, but then again, candidates do get a lifeline and can qualify themselves again at least once.

If you loved the original, you can sit back and enjoy these just as well. You will also experience some nostalgia when you see some of the cameos in the show.

Great games and contestants but mean and annoying English commentators
shivagauri_hari_om31 August 2023
I wish there was a way to turn off the English commentators for the Prime version. Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis are about as funny as a root canal and unnecessarily mean about the contestants, who all look really nice and funny. I would have preferred an option for the original Japanese narration either with dubbing or subtitles. And surprise surprise the English script is written by Geoff Norcott, another terminally unfunny 'comedian'.

As for the games themselves, they look a blast and there is some genuine skill involved to win the rounds. Some of them are a little hard but there is enough of a mercy element not to be overly harsh. I'd be giving this 8 if it wasn't for the annoying English guys talking over it. Please consider adding an original audio option for the remaining episodes.

It's a masterpiece!
dami-0559912 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the original series a few years ago on comedy central and I gotta say the remaster is as good as the original. I had tons of fun watching it. The only thing I think is a bit unfair are the challenges cause they are sometimes way too hard to complete. Even tho they are exactly the same obstacles like back then. Besides of that everything is great. The moderators are entertaining (at least in the German Version) and the obstacles are beautifully done visually. I also really liked the new one with the ball machines where they had to shoot each other.

I really hope for another season. Have fun watching this!

Great show fire the UK announcers!
armisis-15 September 2023
We live in an age where television shows have become an integral part of our culture. They reflect our values, beliefs, and often challenge our perceptions. Some shows, while being great in terms of concept and production, may fall short due to a single aspect. This particular show, which I'm discussing today, exemplifies this dilemma.

The show, at its core, is brilliant. It offers viewers a spectacular blend of entertainment, creativity, and perhaps some educational value. The graphics, the pacing, the content, everything seems to be meticulously crafted to offer a delightful viewing experience. Each episode unveils a realm of amazement, making you eagerly await what's next. For someone who appreciates good television, it's a treat to watch, making the audience come back for more each time.

However, the role of narrators or commentators cannot be underestimated in any show. They guide the audience through the narrative, providing context, humor, and the much-needed commentary that can either elevate the viewing experience or unfortunately, in some cases, hinder it.

And this is where my contention with the show lies.

The two British narrators, who for the sake of this review we'll refer to as the "numpties", don't seem to gel with the ethos of the show. There's a fine line between humor and distaste, and the duo seems to tread this boundary recklessly. The show, which could be a fantastic family watch, is rendered not so kid-friendly due to their sporadic profanity. The issue isn't their British origin or accent; it's their choice of language and style of delivery that misses the mark. Their incessant need to interject with remarks, which they perhaps believe are humorous, ends up being a constant source of distraction.

My wife and I, both ardent fans of the show, often find ourselves in a dilemma. On one hand, we adore the content and the essence of the show, and on the other, we are perpetually tempted to mute these "numpties" who seem to be on a mission to ruin the otherwise fantastic experience. Their narration doesn't just detract from the show, but at times, it almost feels intrusive, taking away from pivotal moments and turning them into cringe-worthy sequences.

This brings me to the golden era of the show when Craig Charles was at the helm of narration. Craig, with his impeccable timing and affable charm, managed to be the perfect companion to the viewers. He didn't overshadow the content but rather complimented it. He knew when to interject, when to lay low, and most importantly, how to connect with the audience. His narration was a harmonious addition to the show, making it engaging without being overbearing.

The contrast between Craig Charles and the current narrators is stark. Where Craig was a gentle guide, leading us through the intricacies of the show, the current duo feels more like those unwanted commentators who have somehow gatecrashed a serene experience. Their attempt at humor comes off as forced, their remarks often unnecessary, and their frequent indulgence in profanity makes one question the show's direction.

Now, I understand that every show evolves, and changes are inevitable. New narrators, new themes, and even new directions can often bring freshness to a show. But it's essential that these changes align with the core values and the spirit of the original concept. It's not just about preserving legacy but ensuring that the show remains true to its essence and its audience.

In conclusion, while the show remains an incredible watch, the current choice of narrators is its Achilles' heel. My earnest hope is that the producers take the feedback of the dedicated fanbase seriously and reconsider their choices. A show of such caliber deserves narrators who can do justice to it, and more importantly, it deserves an audience that can enjoy it wholeheartedly, without the constant urge to hit the mute button.

Great comeback
maroco_uae9 September 2023
I saw the show yesterday and it is so funny and hilarious the new cast host decorations are great.. I love how they still committed to the original show i can feel the old 80s vibes.

I don't understand why people are upset with the games and think they are difficult (which is really difficult) but the idea of the show is to have fun.. yes i want the players to win sometimes and i love the new addition where they give the losers another chance to compete ..

the show is great and Japanese people are funny with beautiful spirit and vibes.. I watched the show with its original sound and enjoyed it.. please please make more.

Takeshi's Castle is dead
hexogen-5236512 August 2023
The games are too difficult for the contestants and become very boring for the viewer. The tempo of the broadcast is too slow. Too many cut scenes. Too much interaction with participants. Candidates who are eliminated are not eliminated at all, but simply participate in every game. The villains are also completely boring. Completely confused and pointless. I mean, the old Takeshi's Castle lived from its fast pace and clear camera work. N of that is here anymore. This show doesn't deserve this name. Clearly they wanted to make big money with no big efforts. Takeshi's castle is dead. We only can feast on the old days.

Couldn't stop laughing
anna_moakes3 September 2023
Hilarious commentary throughout. Love Tom Davis and Romesh Ranagnathan. The games are hard but the commentary and the games itself makes it extremely funny. Great redo of the original series which is classic TV series. They bring back the old characters from the previous series with new twists on the old games. The only disappointment is there isnt more epsiodes for Tim and Romesh to narrate, can not get enough of the duo doing comedy. Would definitely recommend. Even learnt a lot about Japanese celebrities which are not as prominent within the UK. Great watching. Can't wait for another series to come out.

Great Show - Terrible Hosts
OddyOddito7 September 2023
I love the show, pays great homage to the original.

The presenters - particularly Romesh - is probably the least suited to host such a fun, and light show.

He spends the whole time being condescending, rude and just overly negative about the show and the contestants that are just having a good time. Where he clearly is not.

Nothing wrong with poking fun but he comes across as that arse in a pub that after two minutes of trying to laugh off his awkward Reddit level rudeness, you just walk away.

He's just so off the mark of the spirit of this show, and in the effort to appeal to the UK market they're trying to have rudeness which is normally sharp witty and funny that we're known for - and cram the absolute maximum level of "yeah it ain't that good, what a pathetic attempt" energy as possible. He just isn't having a good time and the audience knows it.

Tom is alright, he just ain't that funny. Romesh is just awful. Enough to actually ruin the show.

I'll finish it, because I love TC, but this clear attempt to appeal to a wider UK market you've ruined a show.

Outstanding Return!
barberga-185321 October 2023
I never thought this show would.be rebooted and the reboot is glorious! It's got the spirit, the energy, and over the top drama I didn't even realize I was missing. This is a bigger budget continuation of the original series, and what is loses in low budget charm it more than makes up for in energy and thoughtful redesign of events and a new award and make up challenge system. Overall it's a welcome development and I hope it gets multiple seasons!

Pros:
  • higher budget
  • more events
  • new format is A+ good
  • behind the scenes glimpses are super positive

Cons:
  • season is short
  • lost that "is this in someone's backyard?" vibe.

Lost some soul, but not all of it
thisisforspam5794 October 2023
The entire history of reality TV has happened since the show's original run, and you'll see some of that regurgitated here. Expect audience reactions, endlessly repeated backstories and a highly curated group of quirky contestants who like being on camera. On top of that, expect plenty of nostalgia - it is, after all, the whole reason this reboot exists.

Higher production, less character - the usual. Same games with a different soul animating them.

But, somehow, it isn't completely terrible, so don't let me put you off a light watch to take your mind off things. I really enjoyed the guards this time around. However, I advise avoiding the English commentary as much as possible - not to idolise the just-about-okay OG commentary from Craig Charles, but Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis beg the question of just how bad the state of UK comedy must be for them to find continuous employment.

Tapori commentator
gstdsa12 November 2023
Sir Javed jaff. Was superb and decent in this work. I have watched the show and always appreciated and Kids also can watch the show, and this person BB is just fit for this job, very tapori and chalu type, not worth for a big brand like Takeshi. Reconsider for next time to assign work to BB. He is very good at cheap comedy, which is not good for this show.

Javed sir work was so loving, fun and enjoyable. He was very spontaneous. Language is utmost important when kids are watching the show. This must not be taken lightly.

I love the show since ages. Keep up the good work and I wishes you make it real for Indians to participate.

Terrible Reboot, worse commentators
adriansalteruk10 January 2024
Love the original, this has none of the charm and moaning negative unfunny commentators.

Despite wishing for a Takeshi reboot for decades, I was only able to watch 2 episodes before my initial fears were confirmed.... It's trash TV. So sad.

Yes the show is hard and it was hard initially, but there were multiple rounds where noone made it so a fighting spirit award was given so that some warriors can continue.

The charm of the original series built on a shoestring budget around some big characters is absent. Big budget bright colours, it feels more like total wipeout.

The commentary is the worst part. Bring back Craig?
