It took over 4 years for Writer/Director Anthony Thurman to research, write, animate, and produce this film. The original 'Detective Downs' film only took a little over a month to complete.
Actress Shenita Moore, who plays the character Robin, is the one who actually came up with the name Thomas for Detective Downs' ex-partner. In the script, the character was only listed as "Downs' Ex-partner." The director asked her to come up with a name for him while recording her voice-over dialogue.
This was the first film that the director actually worked with real actors instead of just friends and co-workers.
Not including friends, family, and co-workers who have roles in the film, the only actor that Anthony Thurman actually met in person to record voice-overs from was actress Renee Domenz. They met up on 3 separate occasions at a library in Oak Park, Illinois.
Director Anthony Thurman wrote the role of Dedrick James with actor Jose Rosete in mind after seeing his dramatic acting work in the film "Indebted." Both "Indebted" and the original 'Detective Downs' film were released on the same short film compilation DVD in 2006.
